Unfortunately these terms have cropped up and continue to plague the board game community. This list will identify them and argue for their elimination from our collective vocabulary.

Ameritrash! This derogatory term for games that contain a large number of variations in the game components, mechanics or gameplay which change from game to game, and often contain randomness of various types is normally used in a dismissive way and ignores that fact that these games can be fun.

Point Salad! This term that refers to games in which there are variable paths to victory that are not (entirely) dependent on one another is almost always being used to point at the game as lacking focus or direction. These games can be daunting to indecisive people or those who prefer a clear path to victory over the many options, but quite a few of the best strategy games are very open ended games that get labelled this way.

Cube Pusher! This term refers to "dry" games. This includes games that don't have much direct interaction and normally include a lengthy and gradual buildup before anything "happens". These games normally contain simplistic components because working the mechanics of the game is the focus, not "shiny objects". This is another label that gets slapped on a lot of great games, probably by people who are jealous of them or people who don't understand their subtleties.

Cult of the New! This term is frequently applied to any gamer that has bought a game in the last 10 years. How dare they get a new game when there are so many old games that are so woefully underplayed, such as Chess or Monopoly?!?!

"Is that a kickstarter game?"! (subtext: if so it must be awful) Sure Kickstarter has produced more than it's share of awful games, but so has normal game production. In fact, more bad games have been produced outside kickstarter than through kickstarter, but can simple math be an arguement that dismisses this pointless question!?! I think not! Kickstarters are all terrible, deal with it! (ex: Alien Frontiers of course, the best game ever and the only thing that ever game out of kickstarter that was worth playing!)

Analysis Paralysis - Yes, people take too long to make decisions in games and it's a real problem. The problem with this term is the rhyme. It's too convenient and cutesy to live. I hate cutesy rhymes! You should too.

JASE (Just Another Soulless Euro) - Do games have a soul? I wasn't aware. Seriously though, how dismissive can you get? Aren't gamers picked on enough by non-gamers that we need to be so cruel to other people's games? Caylus has a soul! Don't you, Caylus? Speak to me, Caylus! (crickets)

Multiplayer Solitaire - Yes, some games don't have that much direct interaction. And that's terrible!!! Who cares if my opponent has labored long and hard to set up a brilliant economic engine that he is now writing a doctoral thesis about and will revolutionize the world, I should be able to spoil it with the play of a card I have had since the beginning of the game just in case or that single lucky AWESOME die roll that renders their entire game play experience moot! Shouldn't I?

Alpha Player! Just substitute the word Jerk, and be done with it. Anyone who plays a cooperative game with other people and tries to run the whole game his/herself should probably just stay home and play the game alone. Sure it's fine to give advice to other players and help them improve their game but if you can't stand the possibility that someone else might make a mistake and "lose you the game" then just stick to playing solo games, or just lie down for a while until you work out your personal issues.

Fiddly! Games are fiddly if they contain zero or more components. That's just too much stuff to manage during the game. Who can deal with all that? It's better to stick to games with zero setup time and 20 words or less of rules explanation (Twenty Questions, Charades... that's about it... Guess the number I am thinking of! Ha! Another great game that isn't fiddly!)

Inspansion. The Truck Stop Inspansion upgrade was added to the base game after a Kickstarter stretch goal was met. Why not just call it part of the game?

I think Tom Vasel shares this view in his Dice Tower Review.

Eurogames

This holistic term gives credit where credit is undue!! When was the last time you put your dice away and sat down to a tabletop to push a cube or add some points to your salad and you looked down at the designer of the game and saw that they were from the country of Europe. That's right - never! We all know that the only country where real games are made is Germany. Not Italy. Not France. Not Russia. And certainly not the Czech Republic. Just as the Americans get an entire half of the gaming spectrum dedicated to themselves so should this unambiguous category of tabletop games be named.

Long live Germagames!

Meeples

OK, OK, I get that this was "cute" back when it was invented for Settlers of Catan, well done Alan R. Moon, but nowadays this term - is - just - old...

Even the inclusion of people-shaped-workers in a great many games is debatable to poor. How are we supposed to encourage people who take themselves seriously to take part in playing games that take themselves seriously when they include thematic little elements like wooden-representations-of-people-and-other-objects?!

And then, to add gravy to the meat, people start calling them by an undeniably adorable phrase like "meeples". What next? A game that I can introduce players to that they will enjoy during their first play; which doesn't require looking up a rule book after every second move; which I can play with friends and family alike and not just gamers!?!

No! No! No! We need none of this! Let's end this eternally endearing addition to our gaming vernacular and call them what they really are: painted-wooden-gaming-components-shaped-in-a-simplistic-representation-of-an-actual-thing.

Personally, I recommend you hit up cubesource.com for replacement kits for your games and remove all of that trashy geometric needlessness.
