So I finally show up and everyone else is in a game. I stick around and make a few calls that needed to be made. When no one else was there, I was actually on my way out the door when Rommel called me back. He was just about to start a game of Mississippi Queen. Gaming ensued. Fun was had. Mirth prevailed.

Rommel, Robert, Gdap, and I were all new to the game. We all picked up passengers but only Gdap made it to the dock first.

Level 2. That's right. No Level 1 for us. We four died pretty badly the first round. But did much better and succeeded in our second play.

Arriving early, I played a two-player game of this while eating. It was the most food friendly game that I had, since it did not involve holding cards or doing a lot of piece manipulation. It was my tenth play, though I had never played two-player before, and my opponent (Brendan) had never played at all.

Not surprisingly, I won fairly easily. Two player obviously has none of the coop piece that four-player has. Three player can be played both ways, and my two three-player games were one of each. Basically, you are laying hexagonal tiles with paths on them to move gems to your scoring areas. In four player, each of the six scoring areas is shared by two players (with each combination of two players represented one time). In two players, each player has three areas, with them alternating around the board. In three player, you can set it up so each player has two areas or so that each combination of two players is represented twice.

The main thing that happens differently is that when there is no cooperation, there is an incentive to kill stones by having them run into each other.

Edit: Added name of opponent

Then it was time to start something else. My opponent (Brendan) from Indigo didn't want to play La Isla, preferring to play something new. We now had a larger group of people searching for a game, and I suggested Power Grid (which I had not played for almost a year), and got enough buy in. Brendan didn't feel he had time for that, so went off to something else (Blue Moon City, apparently), but we played a five player game. I selected the Benelux map because it is the fastest map IMO. Mitchell took care of the resource refreshing and I managed the power plants and turn order. The other three players were one that had played maybe twice and two that were brand new to the game.

I pulled out a close win over the player that had played twice, winning by ten dollars.
