I don't know about you all, but I get irrational desires for games that, if I got them, would most likely sit on the shelf for a variety of reasons like complexity, game length, lack of suitable gaming partners, excessive price etc.... Yet, they continue to haunt me until either I purchase them or move on to another obsession.

And I am trying hard to keep my collection to under the magic 100 number...

So, I created this GeekList so the community could help gamers like myself overcome or succumb to their irrational desires.

I keep hearing that this is a masterpiece and that it will soon be reprinted by GMT with solo rules at a great P500 price. I love the WWII Pacific theme and only really play wargames solo so this should be an instant buy. Yet, this is game seems very long, the rules are over 30 pages and the solo bot is supposedly more complex than Fire in the Lake... I've never played a COIN game but the bot in Labyrinth is already complex enough.... I also read the rules of Fields of Fire but never had the courage to play it due to perceived over-fiddliness. So why does this game still tempt me?

Succumb or overcome?

I love the theme of the Vietnam War and this is supposed to be the best COIN game. Yet, it seems crazy complex to play solo with 3 bots to manage in addition to figuring out the side I would be playing. And this game is supposed to be very long. Maybe I should stick with playing more Labyrinth: The War on Terror, 2001 – ? to satisfy my CDG itch...

Succumb or overcome?

There is a reprint coming out! Love Phil Eklund games like Pax Porfiriana, Bios: Megafauna and Greenland. Yet, this one is supposed to be crazy complex and very long. But it is supposed to be so awesome - even solo!

So succumb and pre-order when the time comes, or simply overcome and move on?

I have the first edition but a second one is coming out with new artwork that will match the new Neanderthal game. So do I pre-order or stick with my current edition?

A new Phil Eklund game must surely be an instant pre-order! But I already have Greenland and it's pretty good but not totally awesome solo because there is so much going on. Do I really need another game like that? And will I need to update Greenland in order to match the graphic treatment with Neanderthal? Well.... maybe... Neanderthals are so cool! Should I pre-order?

So succumb or overcome?

I love Pax Porfiriana and the theme of the Great Game seems irresistible. So do I really need another game like Pax Po? Seems like it...

Succumb or overcome the urge to pre-order?

Awesome box design! Awesome theme. I've always been interested in that period in history and have read a few books on air cav in Vietnam. And the game is being reprinted!

But, how solo friendly is it going to be? Are the rules going to be updated to be more streamlined or is this going to be just a cosmetic upgrade?

Succumb or overcome?

This game seems amazing. I have been looking at it since it first went out of print. The time period seems fascinating.

Yet, I always thought that the card play for combat precluded solo play until I wandered on the forum recently where someone suggested a variant that seems to work.

So Polis is back! Should I succumb or resist?

I'm not too sure how I found this game on BGG but when I started reading up on it I got really excited. The time period is not my favorite but I don't dislike it. I have Hold the Line, which I thoroughly enjoy. I've been reading up on CDGs/card driven wargames as this Geeklist attests so I am open to something new like that.

It seems playable solo and actually doesn't seem to take that long to play (shorter than Empire of the Sun and Fire in the Lake for example) so maybe it would be a great game for me that I had never considered?

So succumb or overcome?
