Season 2015/16 Proposal
I know, I know, we have not nearly finished the current pre season but I wanted to get a feel out there if.....
(a) people are still interested in doing something like this
(b) which games they would like to see potentially included
(c) any suggestions on improving the current set up
The 2015 season will start at the beginning of Sept 15 and will last until Jul 16 (roughly spread over 40 weeks after taking into account of Xmas and Easter holidays).
The format I am proposing for the season is broken down into 3 type of tournaments with 15 being proposed and the best 7 results of these contributing to a season score, therefore not every tournament has to be played. There will be a 16th tournament which will be the 'Champions' tournament and the winner of the pre seasons nominated game.
The winner of the season will name a game for 2016/17 season with the runner up and 3rd place gaining an extra 2 vote and 1 vote respectively. But these 'prizes' are meaningless when put against the ability to have bragging rights against you're peers/friends!!!
The 3 types of tournaments are :
Let's describe each one :
Does exactly what it says on the tin, these will typically take an initial 2 rounds with players playing each other based on rank before the best ranked players over the 1st 2 rounds go into a semi-final and then subsequent final. Foresee running 8 of these over the season and will be a mixture of 2 and 3 player games depending on numbers.
These will be short 2 player games where all players will play each other once and points will be determined by rank once all the games have finished. Foresee that 4 of these will be ran.
These will be your longer, more complex games which will see players numbers ranging from 3 to 5. 2 will be played during the season and will follow a similar format to the tournament with 2 initial rounds before going to a semi and final.
The list below are games I have initially proposed for each type and have been based on the following considerations :
Available on Yucata, Boite A Jeaux or Boardgame Arena
Non real-time (turn based)
Minimum number of players
The Palaces of Carrara (BGA)
Saint Petersburg (Yucata)
Ginkgopolis (Boite A Jeaux)
Stone Age (Yucata)
Concordia (Boite A Jeaux)
Deus (Boite A Jeaux)
At the Gates of Loyang (Yucata)
The Castles of Burgundy (Yucata)
Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar (BGA)
Nations: The Dice Game (Yucata)
The Speicherstadt (Yucata) - nominated by Dave
Thurn and Taxis (Yucata)
Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers (Yucata)
Roll Through the Ages: The Bronze Age (Yucata)
Glen More (Yucata)
Race for the Galaxy (BGA)
Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization (BGA)
Trajan (Boite A Jeaux)
Puerto Rico (BGA)
Russian Railroads (Yucata)
El Grande (Yucata)
So, that's the initial proposed games but please let me know if there are any other games that you would like to be included for voting. Submissions/Comments will be required before the 31st August when voting will be available for all on which games you would like to see in the season on a seperate thread. The voting will see a similar format to last time with each vote scoring points (yes - +2, not played/don't mind - +1 and no - -1) and tie breakers being determined by the most yes votes.
If you have any other feedback or advise on the current set up of the tournament (which will still utilise the same method of scoring as seen in the pre-season) then please also let me know in your comment below.
And......please, please, please, please don't forget that you don't have to play all, most, some, hardly any of the games to participate to give us feedback and also be involved in the voting as well as joining in with any of the tournaments. This has been set up for the benefit (and hopefully!) enjoyment for ALL CBG members so please get involved.
