The one sure thing about solitaire wargaming is that not everybody likes the same ones. A solitaire wargame can please most gamers most of the time, but never all gamers all the time.

So, the "Best Solo Wargame for You" all depends on... well, you.

I had a lot of solitaire wargames at one time. Not long ago I decided to thin the collection to just a few of my favorite ones. Listed below are what is left of my solo wargame collection.

Have you done something similar? Or maybe you still have lots of solitaire wargames, but only play a few. So, what solitaire wargame is the Best Solo Wargame for You? Or, which one or two are your favorites?

One of my main interests is air combat, and the Battle of Britain is my favorite part of WW2 history, so no wonder I have this game. But is it good? I will have to say YES! But read my old review for more details.

A friend got me this as a gift, and even though I like the subject and the period (Zulu War), I never dawned on me to get this solitaire game. I'm really glad my friend got this one for me. Its a good addition to my limited solo wargames collection. You can read my "opening the box" review by going to the link below:

The only reason I have this solo wargame is because I picked it up for only four dollars, and it was (and still is) in very good condition, but is it good? Well, let me answer that by saying its still in my limited collection, so for me I like it.

Actually, I have had this game for sometime now, and its still new and un-punched. It almost got sold/traded off with a lot of my other solitaire wargames, but I held onto it because it looks like it might be a good solo wargame, even if it does look very intense.

My favourite game.

No, I am not distinguishing solitaire from multiplayer.

This game is awesome.

My dream? Changing the terrain cards for big tiles and expanding the game. More rules, more simulation, more different weapons...

I cannot pronounce "grandiouse" properly. So I just point to this game. Almost no decision whatsoever, but, together with a spreadsheet, counting each submarine's life is a joy.

And I prefer this version to Steel Wolves. Probably "too much of a good thing".

The way the rules are written one is able to learn how to play ECA by reading the rules in three parts. After that, depending how much time you have you have a choice of a short, medium, or longer play time. There are many games so far on the list that I like but I wanted to mention ECA since it is a very fine solitaire game.

This is it for me! My reasons:

- It's 2 games in one! (The Naval rules are as decent as the Land game)
- It's free!
- It's Ancients!
- Over 500 scenarios!
- Streamlined and awesome!
- Super quick, 2-3 games in an afternoon!

It's more game than simulation, but it's a damn fine game. I love it so much.

Really my 'go to' solo game.

MUCH better then the other Leader series games. Flying over and around hills as you try and avoid those vicious SAMs and blowing up tank columns is much better then making it to the middle of a square map, rolling badly and failing your mission... every freaking time.

I can not recommend this game enough!

To me the best part of the game is the most nerve racking. When engaging in a tactical battle, both sides must draw face down units that represent local levies in the battle. Your never sure who your gonna get.

This just edges out Navajo Wars, just barely, but I think it does because I'm an old school wargamer and I love counting my factors each turn to see where I can get the best battle odds and where can I outflank the enemy, etc.

I'm still in the neophyte stage of the game so winning hasn't been within sight yet but I'm told it's possible. I look forward to it and know it's going to feel great and more than the result of just good luck (though that will be necessary). I'm already learning some best practices.

And now that I've learned this system for the first time, I plan on getting D-Day at Peleliu and maybe getting the PC version of D-Day at Omaha Beach so I can play one game on the table while playing another on my PC.

It's a big year for solitaire games and I'm very curious if Enemy Action: Ardennes or Conflict of Heroes: Eastern Front – Solo Expansion will emerge as my new #1.

Contrary to what others have expressed, for me THIS is solo gaming at its highest.

Is it very complex to learn? Yes, it is, BUT the rule book is designed to teach you the game nuts and bolts in steps. Take your time, and in a week or two you will be fully proficient with the game.

This is a TRUE hex-and-counter wargame that, while played solo, feels like you are playing against a human. In a way similar to DDaOB but with a lot more variety.

Sorry to hear that some did not come to like it. Again, for me it is pure, 100% gaming goodness.

And probably one of the few titles I would keep were I to cut down my collection.

Heavily inspired by the movie Alien (1979), Intruder (1980) is a good little solitaire game for its time. Even today it has a popular following. There is even an updated version called Hidden Intruder, but I have not played or seen it in person.

I've designed several solitaire games, mostly published by White Dog Games. The one I like best and will play over and over is this one.

You play the forces of Christendom (that would eventually end up as Spain and Portugal) reconquering the Iberian peninsular from the Muslims. Strategic level area movement. Here's a pic of the game in action:
