This is the Montgomery Campaign using maps A-B.

The Allies open with clear weather and limited flight. One of the issues is limited supply at this early stage. 30 Corps arrives into the battlefield with the 15th Infantry Division.

The Commonwealth marches the 15th Infantry to the outskirts of Kortrijk, which is defendeded by a flak unit and an infantry regiment. Two squadrons of Mesquitos fly in and bombard the target city of Kortrejk. The enemy infantry regiment is destroyed and the flak suffers disruption. Then the 15th Infantry attacks. This has mixed results and the British troops suffer some losses. The flank retreats allowing the Commonwealth to capture the city.

The US sends a bomber mission to hit the German 357th Infantry Division. Enemy flak damages the P-38's and the barrage has no effect.

German units from the west begin funneling onto the map. These are cut of due to the Commonwealth forces in Antwerp. The Bresken's ferry is their only supply source. The 67th and 86th Corps both move toward the ferry.

The Allies have initiative and elect to play second. The Weather is clear and allows normal flight. The Black Market event reduced the Commonwealth and American supply this turn.

The Axis player receives an additional Reserve Marker. Also a number of small units arrive on the map for deployment. Forces forward to find defensive positions. Resources are ferried across the Bresken's Ferry.

The Commonwealth receives the Canadian 4th Armoured Division and the 1st Polish Armoured Division. The Polish unit is placed in reserve. Also the 12th Corps HQ arrives with a pontoon engineer unit. Commonwealth forces advance past Ingelmunster where they prepare to engage the enemy flak unit. Two squadrons of Mosquitoes fly a barrage that destroys the unit, so the ground attack is called off.

The 4th Armoured Brigade is parked outside of Gent but is disrupted. So the Commonwealth moves the 4th Armoured Division in to attack. Typhoon's knock out the flak unit and then both sides exchange losses during the ground combat. The Commonwealth sacrifices an armoured battalion while the German 70th Infantry Division loses a step.

The Americans fight farther south. The 3rd Armored Division makes some headway despite the ineffectiveness of the Air Force bombardments.

The Luftwaffe sends a fighter squadron out to participate in the attack against Allied strategic bombing. This reduces the Axis patrol zone net for this turn. (Random event) The Weather is clear.

The Axis goes first again. The Germans receive the Rassler Division as reinforcements as well as an additional Reserve Marker and some small Luftwaffe units. Mostly concerned with preparing a defense. The Strategy has been to evacuate as much as possible of the forces caught at the Breskens Ferry location while it is still operational. A counter attack has some success against the Americans, destroying the 803rd AT Battalion.

The US 79th Infantry Division heads south (off map). The US launches an attack and manages to take out the 3rd Infantry Regiment of the 2nd SS Panzer. This was a 4 action rating unit. P-47's managed a successful hipshot to DG the unit.

The Commonwealth launches an attack against the German position at Gent. Two squadrons barrage the German infantry division (70th) in the city. It suffers heavy damage in the ground attack. The German 346th Infantry Division is damaged in another attack at Tielt and suffers more damage after retreating through a ZOC.

Weather is still clear. Partisan activity in the occupied areas. The Allies place three train-busting markers.

The Allies win initiative and go second. The Axis player adds a few more Luftwaffe battalions and the 12th Volksgrenadier Division. The 1st SS Panzer launches a counterattack against the US forces near Ciney. The US loses an AT battalion and the Panzer unit retreats.

The 2nd Canadian Division arrives as reinforcements and the US 5th Corps HQ enters from the southern map sector. The US forces attack the Axis position although quite weak in supply. The US air force performs miserably on the hip shoot actions. Finally B-25's manage to disrupt the target. The US CCA Regiment suffers loses while inflicting a lot of damage on the German units of the 116th.

The Commonwealths runs a number of overruns against German units that are cut off from Antwerp. Several weak units are eliminated. Here is a photo at the end of the action:

Weather is still dry, but there is only limited flight (movement phase only). The Axis wins initiative and allows the Allies to play first, giving them a double turn. The Allies are not really prepared to make full use of this, but a highly rated German unit is DG'ed and can be hit.

The Random Events go against the Germans. First there is a fuel shortage. That means that each unit must be fueled at a 1T per unit basis. Also, the Allies capture a lost German courier. This exposes some of the German commands plans and the Allies can change an Axis attacker surprise to an Allied defender surprise. Bet the Germans will be conservative on their attacks.

The Commonwealth 8 Corps HQ arrives as reinforcements along with 3rd and 43rd Infantry Divisions and 2 Reserve markers. The Americans launch several hip shot attacks and finally one takes. Then the US ground forces take out two high value German units (high action ratings). US supply is still a problem. The American forces conduct overruns as well as ground combat and knock out the rest of the 116th Panzer, but they lose 3rd Armored Division's CCA Regiment.

The Commonwealth pushes toward the Antwerp objective which requires the Scheldt ports to be captured. Taking advantage of the fact that the Axis fighter patrol zones are down, the Commonwealth attacks. More German roadblock units are wiped out.

The Axis receives the 2nd Fallschirmjaeger Corps HQ along with a number of Luftwaffe units. Also, a squadron of Bf-109 fighters is deployed in the Scheldt. German troops continue to consolidate and fall back. Due to the fuel shortage event the German commander makes limited maneuvers with track and truck units. No attacks are launched. Not the best timing with the captured courier, but there are really no good opportunities this time.

Weather is dry, normal flight. The Random Event is West Wall Construction. The Axis gets six hedgehog improvements to the West Wall.

Then the Axis wins initiative and chooses to play second to defend against the double turn.

The Allies get an additional Reserve Marker and the US deploys 6 new aircraft squadrons in the Normandy Box.

Their is not much supply so the Americans do little. The Commonwealth prepares an attack in the area around Antwerp. Both US and Commonwealth air attempt to weaken the Luftwaffe. Several of the Allies's squadrons are shot up by flak. One of the Axis airbases is reduced by bombardment. None of the Allied airstrikes against combat units are effective however. The British attack the eastern part of Antwerp. Artillery is successful and the Luftwaffe flak units is DG'ed. Then the 3rd Infantry Division attacks and defeats the enemy units. The Allies capture eastern Antwerp.

The Axis player brings in reinforcements. The 12th SS HQ enters with the 766th artillery and the 506th Tger Battalion. There are no counterattacks. Units continue to evacuate at the Bresken's Ferry while there is still time.

The weather is dry, but the skies are overcast and there is only limited flight. The Allies attack V-weapon Sites. The Allies make it a priority to attack the V Weapon sites in Holland. This leads to five squadrons of bombers being diverted to this task. This will reduce the on map fire power of the Allies this turn.

The Axis gains initiative and chooses to play second. The Commonwealth 6 Guard Tank Brigade enters as reinforcements with a Reserve marker. The US 29th Infantry Division and other assets arrive farther south.

Without the typical air power, the Allies choose to stockpile supplies. Some air strikes are aimed at the enemy fighters and this results in the Luftwaffe losing one of his squadrons. The RAF hits the Axis forces in Brugge, leaving them disorganized. Then the British 15th Infantry strikes and destroys the emeny forces. Brugge is captures by British infantry.

The Axis player gets a fighter replacement, which is deployed to the forward airbases. Also a 183rd VG Division arrives along with some small Luftwaffe battalions. There are no Axis atatcks.

The weather is dry and clear. This time the random event is: Rear Area Comb Out. The US collects a few extra personnel replacements. The Axis has initiative again and plays second.

The US gets some fighter replacements and rebuilds the P-38's to full-strength. The Commonwealth 1 Corps HQ and 49th Infantry Division enter as reinforcements. The 4th Commando Brigade joins them. US 2nd Infantry Division and several Tank Destroyer units enter play.

The Commonwealth sends out some fighters to knock down the Luftwaffe fighters at Maldegen. The base is overcome after an attack by the 10th Armoured Brigade. The CW armour falls back to save equipment so the airbase isn't captured right away. (That's what reserves are for right?)

A unit from the 4th Armoured Division captures the airbase during the exploitation phase. The enemy fighters escape.

US P-47's whack a German engineer unit. (That is the 79th Engineer Battalion, a non-replaceable AR 4 unit.)

The Germans bring the 363rd Volksgrenadier Division and the 388 Artillery Corps aboard. This is the last turn of the Breskens Ferry operation. The German commander gets another 3 RE across.

October 1, 1944

This new month begins with dry but no flight. The Axis wins the initiative again and choose to play second. The Canadian 3rd Infantry Division arrives as reinforcements along with some RAF aircraft support. The US 5th Armored Division moves from the southern map into the play area.

Since there is no flight the Allies will focus on positioning. Also the British 1st Corps attacks Antwerp. The 4th Artillery Corps expends an expesive barrage and leaves the defenders in northern Antwerp disorganized. Then the 3rd and 43rd Infantry Divisions attack. The Luftwaffe 1st Assault Battalion is destoyed and the infantry regiment retreats. The Commonwealth 159th Armoured Brigade suffers a step loss. Antwerp falls to the 1st Corps. The Axis places three mine hits on the port.

The Axis receives the 246th VG Division as reinforcements. The 711th Infantry Division is upgraded as is the 7th SS Bicycle. The 2nd SS Panzer Corps launches a decent counterattack against the Americans near Wermme. Several units are destroyed as a result, weakening the US position.

The units trapped near the Bresken's Ferry are now on limited supply. Most of the units eat off the map.

The Allies win initiative and choose to go first. The weather is dry and there is normal flight. The 2nd Canadian Corps arrives as reinforcements and the US 8th Corps HQ as well. The Commonwealth is waiting for the Axis troops at the Bresken's Ferry to surrender. The US launches an attack against the 10th SS Panzer Division. The 1-10 Panzer, 10th PJ and 21st PG are all destroyed. So much for wrecking the American units on the 1st.

The Axis player tries to regroup. There are no reinforcements on the north battlefield. One infantry unit is rebuild. Several Ost units that are trapped near the ferry surrender to the Allies. These are the 628, 625, and 627th Ost Battalions.

The weather is dry and flight is normal. This time the random event is Ocean Storms. This will lower the Allies shipping this turn as the navies deal with rough seas.

The Axis player wins initiative and plays 2nd. The Allies collect supply, replacements and a few reinforcements. There is not much to do with the current supply situation. The Antwerp port is repaired further. A series of fighter sweeps takes down the Axis patrol zones and inflicts some losses to the Luftwaffe fighter squadrons. Bombardments against enemy units has no effect this time and the strikes on the fighters' air bases has little effect.

The Axis adds supply, replacements and reinforcements. Supplies are shuffled around but there are no attacks. A German infantry regiment surrenders to Commonwealth troops in the Bresken's Ferry area.

The photo shows the Antwerp ports. Both major ports are under Allied control. The western port is completely repairs and mines are being removed from the eastern port.

Weather is still dry. Limited flight. The random event is Allied receive ammo supply marker. The Allies obtain initiative and choose to play second.

The Germans receive a few reinforcements and replacements. Some supply is shuffled around. Defenses are build up. The Allies also get the 33rd Tank Brigade as reinforcements. The British Spitfires take down the Luftwaffe fighter patrols. This frees up the Allies bombers. Not all of the bombardment is effective, but several ground forces are disorganized and the RAF destroys some Luftwaffe fighters.

The US has mixed results in attacking the German forces. A PJ battalion is destroyed but the Big Red One suffers heavy losses against the 9th SS Panzer. Meanwhile the Commonwealth infantry invests the port at Terneuzen, destroying the remnant of German troops there. The port will be captured next week. The Commonwealth 53rd Infantry retreats to avoid losses.
