Last year I challenged myself to play all Kennerspiel winners, nominees and recommendations (✔ Diving into Kennerspiele ✔). I finished with the games in March, and now the new nominees are out! Well time to take on a follow-up challenge. I'll try to play the nomenees before the winner is announced so that I can make my prediction :-)

Winner for 2015

I was surprised to see this make the list, because for me it's not in Kennerspiel-terretory, in my opinion it's a bit lighter than the rest. But I really liked this when I play it, and it's taken a spot on my wishlist, so this surely is a fun game, that has a thinky-but-not-too-thnky-feel to it because of the cool push-your-luck-aspect. I'm glad it's getting some attention!

Update

I'm a little surprised that it won the Kennerspiel, but I'm also really glad. It is a cool game, and I think many gaming families will be glad to have this in their collection.

Nominee for 2015

It's gotten a good reception, but the bag building doesn't interest me as much. Plus there seemd to be a few rules issues when this came out.

Played it!

Ok, I have to eat my words. I really liked this game. I want to play this again! It took me a little while to figure out that it's important to really fill your bag with people, otherwise you might be waiting for that one fisher the whole game... and you can always send the useless ones away to get you coins. Damn, I want to try this again!

Nominee for 2015

This seems right up my alley with the card-using-and-scoring, but the tnseness of the game might be too much for me. Having not played this, I already think this is a top contender for the prize.

Played it! As expected this game is right up my alley. I like the effects of the cards and the sphere-elysium-balance (what can I score already and what has to stay above?). I expected this game to stress me, but the turn-angst I heard about did not concern me. The mechanism with the pillars is neat, but not as punishing as I thought. Again I think this would be a great Kennerspiel, but who knows what the jury thinks...

Recommendation for 2015

The different peoples special abilities is what attrackts me to this one.

Played it!

Well... I don't see it. It's a fine game, but the view dice you have really limit you. Plus the money, that is always very tight. The characters are a neat idea, but there are some that simply fare better then others. I was more bored than anything else. I liked that the cities gave you extra spots, but it didn't really count much for me, since I only reached 3 cities during the whole game... Well, I think I'll pass on this next time.

Recommendation for 2015

I've played this in the fall after hearing great things about it, and sure, the card-mechanic was right up my alley, but the game didn't wow me. The luck of the draw was a but too prevalent, and the board-play was strange. But it's a solid design, I'd play it again if someone suggests it, but I probably won't be asking for it.

Recommendation for 2015

Well, this one is on the bottom of my interest-list, simply because I've played Glass Road, which surely has a different driving mechanism, but the whole point-churning seems to be similar, as well as theme and look. But it has potential to surprise me.

Played it!

Ok, my opinion on Uwe Rosenbergs games has changed since I wrote my thoughts above. I loved Feast of Odin, and I simply enjoy the building up and point-churning he puts in his games. Fields of Arle was no exception. Had a great time, would readily play it again, even hinking about trying it solo. Solid, glad I bought it.
