Boardgame map makers occassionally get their geography wrong (or horribly misspell locations). List is of such examples.

Please add to. (that's how the list actually got started - when Eric B pointed out the Ticket to Ride miscue: Why we need never fear the Canadians.)

Still my favorite: Chilli anyone?

I actually have a playtest map...going to the game closet...pulling it out...checking it:

Chilli free! I wonder when the mistake crept in during production...

In the grim future, Europe will become misshapen; Japan, Greenland and Iceland will all sink; both the Black and Red Seas will dry up; India will mysteriously vanish; and New Zealand will conquer half of Australia.

The image is of the pre-production version of the board, but the geography of the final version is largely unchanged. All changes made for gameplay reasons, of course, but still funny.

First time visitors to London whose only knowledge of the Underground is this game, might be surprised to find there are actually a lot more stations.

(I realise it's not really an error, the game would need a map twice the size and take twice as long if they included all of the stations)

While not an actual map error, I think this one qualifies to be on the list.

Railways of England and Wales/of Great Britain has a location card that refers to Grimsley. Yet, England can only come up with a Grimsby.
I wonder how this one slipped past play testing? shake

Boundaries and area names in the Habsburg Empire (Austria) are totally wrong. Banat should be Hungary (ironically the Banat itself is not included, it's that small area to the south towards the Danube - it should be included as it was reconquered from the Turks in 1718), Ungarn should be Transylvania. Transilvanien and Grenzregion are pure nonsense: these were Moldova and Wallachia, being Ottoman vassals at the time. The area of Ostgalizien never belonged to the Habsburgs. Quite inaccurate for a historical game.

High in the hills down in the dales
Happy and fancy free
Old Father Thames keeps rolling along
Down to the mighty sea
What does he know? What does he care?
Nothing for you and me
Old Father Thames keeps rolling along
Down to the mighty sea
He never seems to worry, doesn't care for fortune’s fame
He never seems to hurry but he gets there just the same
Kingdoms may come, Kingdoms may go
Whatever the end may be
Old Father Thames keeps rolling along
Down to the mighty sea.

He's rolling one hell of a lot further here than in any known geography I'm aware of. Basically the Thames is three hex sides longer than can be justified. It also appears to have nicked the River Severn and sent it East, rather than into the Bristol Channel.

Presumably there is some important reason for such a geographical atrocity in a historical game. I wonder what it is?

(Love the Devonian Mountains by the way. Wonder why I've never visited them?)
