Were you inspired this month by the joys of spring to play games about nature, animals and new birth? Well, I doubt there will be any place here for Agricola, Morels or Dominant Species. What is truly unique among your plays this month?

The instructions are, as always:

Quote:
Look at your plays for the month of May, and then check out the games and see if you can find any games where you are currently the solitary logger of a play for May (or if the other loggers were actually in the same game session with you). Use your common sense in order to make the search faster. Obviously things like Dominion, Magic, etc. will have plenty of people playing them. Note: expansions that only you logged are fine, feel free to add them as well.

Then share any comments you might have. Are we missing something? How could this happen? What is your opinion of the game?

Subscription Thread = Games Only YOU have played Subscription Thread

I will continue to tip interesting, unusual or fun Geeklist items at my discretion and until I run out of GG! Please do feel free to keep the prize fund topped up with discretionary donations!

2 games of it played this month, both my copy of it and I was playing in both games

Rather fun game - can be enjoyed by both adults and kids and has some tactical decision making.

We played with the following rules :

- 1 piggy per space, don’t count occupied spaces when moving, just jump over them.
- The die has been replaced by a D6 with the following values : 1; 1; 2; 2; 3; 1-4 -- that last one lets you pick any number between 1 and 4
- You must use up your full movement, but you can spread it across both piggies.
- Land on a space with golden coins -> that piggy gets the coin(s) – each one counts as a +1 point
- Land on a space with a black coin -> you can put that in another player’s piggy – each one counts as a -1 point.
- Land on a space with a pink piggy -> you can pick-up and rattle another player’s piggy in order to determine how “fat” with coins it is
- You start the race with 5 golden coins to be secretly divided among both your piggies however you want.
- First across the finish line gets 5 additional golden coins, 2nd gets 4, 3rd gets 3, 4th gets 2 and 5th gets 1.
- After the 5th piggy crosses the finish line the game ends immediately.
- If you run out of golden or black coins, that’s life – if you run out of both, the game ends.
- The owner of the piggy with the highest point value wins. Do not add your piggies.

This is one of many games using Shibumi balls stacked in a square pyramid. It's one of several n-in-a-row games my wife and I are playing this month. It's one of our favorite Shibumi games (and also one of its creator's favorites).

The goal is simple: get a complete line (4 on bottom, 3 on 2nd level, 2 on 3rd level) in your color. On your turn, you can place a ball of your color, or move an already-placed ball of your color to a new place, as long as it's directly supporting at most one ball (thus causing a cascade downward). Surprisingly deep/subtle for a 4x4 grid game!

The 2 recorded games of this are actually just 1 game of this co-operative dexterity game

It's a team vs team race to complete a building with a set of wooden blocks, one member is blindfolded the others shout the building instructions. Really good fun.

Solo game, had fun. Had some really neat ideas in its time, and it was fun playing a game that didn't represent a real war. You can send mountaineer units stalking each other through the mountains, stage paratrooper invasions, launch amphibious assaults. For the amount of rules it's pretty dang good.

This seems like someone else might play before May is out so I will try and get it in now - one play of Goro-Goro Dōbutsu Shōgi, the medium-sized cute Shogi variant, with dogs and cats as well as lions and chicks. Off the back of two games of Let's Catch the Lion! that I lost in humiliating fashion, I at least clawed back some dignity by winning this, even if it was because my opponent was beginning to tire. I am very poor at chess and other similar games so I can't see this perfect record lasting beyond May.

Oswald B. Lord's Game of Politics - if you're ever curious to try this game, be sure to play the 1935 edition, _not_ the lobotomized 1950s edition...

All kinds of flowers profusion - not a bad trick taking game - but somehow missing a little something for me.

Troia - a fun little archaeology game with a unique layering setup.

Bohnanza Schnupperspiel - the third time through the deck, there was just one card. Which did make it easy to shuffle...

So ein Zirkus - fun little game, with a nice memory element to it...

Thinking Man's Golf - for years, I couldn't beat a friend of mine at this - which seemed fair, as he golfs and I don't. But I've now won twice in a row...

Sweep! - Times I've played: 7. Total recorded plays on BGG: 1.

Halali - OK, I'm cheating. There's one play listed that I wasn't part of. However, there are often plays and ratings of Tally Ho! recorded under this game; I'm going to assume that was the case here, and count it.

Quacksalbe - wonderful, light, silly game; somehow, everyone ended with a positive score, which never happens...

Hakahana - my older son enjoys this, and he's home from college for the Summer...

Terrible Monster - not bad, but - not enough there for me.

7 little korpokkurs - nothing but bluff; not my thing

3 for me this month. 2 more obscure wargames and a children's game that I counted even though I got only halfway through. There were two other wargames that I was one of two, but I didn't know who the other person was so, didn't quite make it!

This is a game that I've got the only logged play of in all of BGG! And so far, just 1. It is a simple historical PnP wargame that covers the naval engagements outside of Santiago de Cuba during the Spanish American War. Usually you'd have to buy it for a pittance, but I got a free copy by being a Gold Supporter over at Consimworld (I actually don't use the site, but know that is a good resource that bleeds the most important data to over here). The rules are only 4 pages long, and they work pretty well. The American fleet is stronger, but the Spanish have the easier objectives of just escaping with 1 ship in tact.

My one play was the introductory scenario. The US Navy is trying to bottle up the harbor by sinking a rock filled block ship in the narrow exit. This would have ensured the capture of the Spanish Fleet. However, I was able to repeat history and the Coastal Fortifications were able to mass enough fires on the block ship to sink it well outside the target area. This introductory scenario is almost impossible for the USA to win in because the block ship only takes 1 hit, and most of the coastal batteries can fire at it twice before. If you take a few extra turns and try to use the US Monitors to blow up the Coastal Batteries, then you start to take too long and more batteries are activated and so is the Spanish Navy. Just for learning the rules getting to roll the dice in combat a few times this is a great scenario. I'm going to hit the main scenario (the breakout) this month.

I was the only one to get this to the table this month. I got this from the Wargamers Paying It Forward thread and then traded it on. I had set this up and run through the first 3-4 turns twice before, so I was committed to getting it played!

This is a great little game covering a boring little battle. In January 1945, the Germans launched their last offensive into the West and attacked the weakened US/French 7th Army in the Alsace. They even used a pontoon bridge to ford the Rhine. The game dynamics are good, and this is a solid operational wargame. There is a "Troop Quality" metric, where troops are graded A, B, C or D and usually A troops give a positive DRM while D troops give a negative DRM, but not always.

However, the game is too long and the strategic situation not interesting enough. By 1945 the Germans were never going to win in the Alsace. Yes, Eisenhower didn't want to send reinforcements (so you don't get any), but it's such a slog for the Germans and while the Americans can make many good counterattacks all along the line (especially in clear weather), it's just not very exciting. It's too long. If the same system had been used for the fighting near Falaise, or Mortain, or Market-Garden, this would be a very interesting game. Since the system was solid, I rated it well, but the battle just isn't.

Finally, I had a chance to play this beautiful and worthless game with my almost-3 son. We didn't quite get to the "finish line", in this useless game, but we did play for a solid 15 minutes which should have been as long as anyone ever plays it.

You use a spinner and move that many spaces, picking up the cards of the spaces you land on (like A, a, B, b, C ---). When you all get past the finish line, you figure out who has which cards and you win. The game uses illustrations from Eric Carle's books, which is really lovely, but the big vs little letters use the same picture and thing, just a bigger or littler copy, which is rather boring. Maybe it's needed with letters like Z, U, V, but I felt like not only was the game clearly for children, but it wasn't as good as it could have been.
