I've played a few games with closed economies and find it a fascinating mechanic that leads to some really interesting dynamics. I want to discover more of these games so please add candidates to this list!

A closed economy is one in which no money enters or leaves the game. This is usually linked with a zero sum economy. All expenditure by one player is income by another.

Every winning bid is divided up and passed to the losing players. The money pool in this game is always the same.

One player puts up a piece for auction. The winning bid is paid to the auctioneer (or the auctioneer can pay the high bid to the high bidder to build it for them self).

Cheating a little bit here.

Money leaves the economy through infrastructure investment and enters the economy from delivery incentives.

In between these actions there are periods of a closed economy where money is handed around among players.

Outside of one tile that when placed gives one player an additional $3, the money is limited to what you began the game and whatever resources you can sell.

I think this one fits the bill.

Money is used to bid on properties, which are then sold for money cards, which get added to money left over from the beginning to make the final score.

"no money enters or leaves the game" is perhaps a bit nebulous. The bank is a meaningful part of the game, after all, at least in some games:

What do you think about a game like 1830: Railways & Robber Barons, in which "no money enters or leaves the game" and there is a well-defined constant total amount of money which exists in the game (so no money is created or destroyed), and if the bank reaches zero, then the game ends? (It also ends if a player reaches zero.)

Note that this is different from many games which have a conceptually unlimited bank, where the physical amount provided has no significance, and more money can be created/improvised as needed to pay out to players.

The red chips that you begin the game with never leave the game, nor do any get added. Perhaps not an 'economy', but the same mechanic nonetheless.

A 2014 Knizia game with a closed economy, based on building Moai statues on Easter Island. The money is in the form of small shells. Each round a closed fist bid is done and the winner places his bid on a bank spot on the board and places 3 tokens on the board. The 2nd and 3rd high bidders keep their money and place 2 and 1 token. If anyone bids 0 shells, they get to take all of the shells accumulated on the bank spot.

Seems to be a rather unfairly overlooked game, with only about 100 owners listed so far.

The active player puts up a variety of rooms for auction at different prices which the other players bid on paying the money to the active player

not quite a closed economy as players can pass and take 5,000 from the bank and the active player pays money to the bank if they buy a room at the end of the round.

It isn't quite a closed economy, as escalating amounts of money are distributed to all players when a donkey is auctioned off. But, all payments are made between players. And, arguably, the total amount of money from the donkeys is fixed at the beginning of the game, it just arrives at random intervals.

Completely closed economy, in which any money spent in auctions goes into that market, and the only way players get more money is by claiming it from one of the markets.

Players each start with 3 coins and spend them to buy resources from neighbors, giving coins to neighbors.

Money sometimes goes to the bank or comes from the bank, but an awful lot of transactions are between neighboring players, which is considered close enough to a "closed economy" for the list.

An equal amount of money is distributed to players at the start of the game, and no more money comes in. Players create a "pot" by all paying into the pot at the start of the game. Any further purchases are made by paying into the pot, all pay-outs come from the pot. If there isn't enough in the pot for a pay-out, the person gets what is left in the pot.

Genes are the currency in the game for buying evolutions. There is a set number in the game at the start and no more are ever added or removed. Genes change hands through spending them on evolution traits and are received by taking traits that have genes placed on them.

Not exactly a closed economy, since money doesn't circulate. Players start with a fixed amount of money, used to bid on where the plane goes on holiday. Use up your cash by bidding early, and you're forced to travel around where everyone else chooses. The fixed money adds some great tension to this lesser-known Sid Sackson gem.

This incredibly simple set collection / autcion game has a completely closed economy in its original ruleset. In the reimplementation, Serengeti, there's an option to introduce more money into the system, but I highly recommend using the original Don rules.

Great gateway game, as well as a cutthroat gamer's game.
