[POLL] Best One Hour Games
- Tom TravisUnited States
I ran a tournament at KublaCon, you can read more about it here: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1237329/optimal-board-g.... Players get to choose which games they want to play, optimization software matches players up. I am looking for games that take right around an hour to play, so that with set up and teaching, they can be finished in a 90 minute round without forcing players to wrap it up before the intended game end very often. I also don't want a game that is so quick that the players are sitting around an hour for the next round to start. Games will typically be 3 player games, but it could go up to 4 or 5 depending on how the matching needs to be done. Also, the game needs to have a way that each player gets a score so that their place can be determined. Cooperative games, or ones with a single winner and no way to tiebreak between everyone else will not work.Recommend
I have been asked to run the tournament again in the future, and I want to bring the best set of games I can. I took nominations here: Best One Hour Games - Nominees and I am adding to that list the games I used and additional options I got by searching through BGG looking for games that take 30-60 minutes, can have 3 players, and do not have mechanics of partnerships or cooperative games.
I also would like input on how many games should be offered. In the two times I've run this, I have had about 40 games to choose from, and about 20 people entered in the tournament. I was trying to aim for more people to enter, but given the length of the event, I probably will likely get 15-30 people entering again.
