Remember--three stars is a perfectly good game. It's just not one of my personal favorites. This rating often indicates a game I'd be happy to play, but have no need to own. That's accurate here. I feel the same about Witch's Brew. In general, I like the idea of adding a traditional, shared board to the earlier game with its fun "so be it" role-selection mechanism.

Another play of this super-light family filler boardgame. I enjoy it, but am starting to think I will be ok selling/trading this one away to someone else later. Not yet, though (and maybe not ever, who knows?). The fished-out mechanism is simple, and works so well. The game ends so quickly, though, I might like it to last a couple turns more.

Another good, solid one I'm happy to own. This is a throwback to the early days of German games, and this has the heart of a complete abstract, but given a sprinkle of imperfect information through play of face-down markers. It's why I'll always like this one more than something like Battle Sheep, below. This was a birthday gift a year ago!

No, I don't think this is SdJ material. It should've been on the Recommended list instead, and made room for Cacao up in the nominees. That's what I think. However, I have to admit that I've played it a whole lot in the past couple weeks, with a wide range of players (solo, 2er, 3-player, and 5-player), and it's always been fun. I've been playing a ginned-up version from a 6 Nimmt deck, but will want to add this game to some future order just to have it. Good stuff. (Just don't compare it to the brilliance of Hanabi!)

What am I doing wrong in this one? Once again I ended up with a negative score. Earlier I thought that came from not buying enough pieces that have buttons on them. That helped a later game. But now I went back to negative, even though I had plenty of buttons. I love it, just can't play with a darn!

I was able to play all three of the Kinderspiel nominees. This one was my favorite, though all three were really good for that award. What gave this one the edge, for me, was the combination of it being a great present to give a kid/niece/grandchild, and something that would be pretty fun for the adults to play, too. Yes, it's a bit of a toy/gimmick, but there's a decent game in there, too.

This was the lightest of the kids' games, the one best-suited for the youngest kids. It's almost an activity toy, and could be played with kids as young as 3 (it says 5+ on the box). Pack a bunch of wooden "treasure" into your treasure chest, most stuff wins, but a random (or known) assortment of treasures will be discarded before scoring. Played with or without a sand timer.

I heard this was a big hit at BGG<3FAM (how am I supposed to write that out?), and it's easy to see why. Dexterity games are crowd-pleasers that are fun for the audience, too. The monsters are funny, and the "monster parade" you use to score is funny & functional.

Ugh. I continue to be the hobby's biggest grump about this one. There's the barest sliver of skill/decision-making, and the rest is just awe & laughter about the ways dice can surprise you. I do agree that the X on one die face is a critical little ingredient to give it some spice. And the "arena" built into the box is clever. But really, I'd rather play anything else.

Brass - Always enjoyable.

Tokaido - I'm intrigued by this one. Have only played a couple times (once face-to-face). I think my opinion might improve with more plays. In general, I think oneway-linear games are interesting. Maybe more interesting than fun? I've enjoyed Knizia's Tutankhamen since the old days. I found one geeklist that's about these kind of games, but it seems to include lots of games that aren't really the same thing (either the oneway mechanism isn't the main feature of the game, or it isn't really the same thing at all, such as the linear resolution of a worker placement game.)

Battle Sheep - Ok, I've played this a few more times, and it's fading. Nothing really wrong with the game, but the only abstracts I really enjoy are ones with IMperfect information and/or randomness(such as Caprice). Those are hard to find.
