What is #GenCantSoloCon?
It's the biggest four day solo-con you've never attended at GenCant.

Where do I learn more?
Right here: #GenCantSoloCon 2015

How do I participate?
Want to share with the rest of the con attendees about your games, successes, and horrible defeats? Want to share in the GenCant Solo Con experience with everyone else? Want to win prizes, fame, and fortune?
Well, all the details about the prizes are on the other geeklist. But if you want to share with the world what you've been playing at the 2015 GenCant Solo Con, post it here.

Gen-Can't-Because-I-Am-Moving-My-Mother Playlist

Shout out to the dedicated hosts and coordinators of #GenCantSoloCon for putting together this digital Con for the briliant solitaire game players!

Alas, I must move my elderly mother from the West Coast to the East Coast up to 01-August so there is some unique game play planning required since I must pack my game components in my carry-on bag and backpack along with all my tech for my trip out west. Compact and easy to pack are my requirements since I am keeping my evenings free for gaming and relaxing during this moving excursion.

Thursday, 30-July CARDS
Moving the Mother out of the condo and into a hotel room so the game playing surface will be limited. Card games easy to pack and play would be:
Aucteraden
Agent Decker
Todd Sander's The Court of Xiang Chi
Thursday

I have been wanting to play these 2015 Solitaire PnP Contest games, what better chance than on the road... hopefully. Check out my crafting/build of these PnP games here: Katastrophy’s Print and Play Endeavors

Friday, 31-July CO-OP
Roadtrip to Seattle and hopes for an early evening to get some gaming in. Cooperative games I can take with me (Zombicide would need its own suitcase!) are:
Forbidden Island

Want to expose my 80+ mother to board games and this one might be just right, not too complex and easy to follow. Anything to avoid playing RumiCubes!

Saturday, 01-August EURO
Getting on a plane to go from one coast to the other, about five hours in the air. Which Euro-style game can a take that can be played on an airplane folding tray?
Jaipur
Carcassonne (App?)

This one is going to be tough given the limited amount of space those bloody airline fold-down trays provide. I do have Ticket to Ride, Suburbia, Carcassonne, etc. as Apps on my tablet but that takes away the fun of playing game pieces! Are App versions allowed?

Sunday, 02-August VERSUS
Settling the Mother into her new place so I have the evening to open up the gaming table and break out something challenging. What games I have yet to play with mano-a-mano?
Robinson Crusoe
Jambo
BoardGameGeek: The Card Game

I received Robinson Crusoe in this years 2015 Secret Soloist Exchange and have yet to play it. Hoping I have enough time for a first-playthrough game.

Pictures, tweets, and all the other fun stuff to be added/commented as the event begins. Boarding my plane tomorrow, wish me luck!

Any airplane compatible gaming ideas?

4 DAYS/8 GAMES/15 PLAYS! Here's my Can'tGenSoloCon List:

THURS (30 JULY) CARDS
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Card Game (Copyright 1965) By all accounts this was my first game in my life. I must have been in 1st Grade, maybe 2nd at the time. Today, I played 3 games: [Won 1/LOST 2] Played with 3 ghost players. Points scored when cards add up to 10 (1 chip), 20 (2 chips), up to 50 (5 chips). You play until you run out of chips (50 chips in pool). First two games I randomly drew top card of ghost players while being able to select my card. Player #2 won big first game; I won big 2nd game. So I changed the rules in the Third game to all cards (3 per player) placed face-up with lowest card must be played unless playing to win--resulting in Player #3 winning big.)
Friday 0 wins/2 losses so far; 2nd game reached the first pirate where I lost again. I thought the Fig Neutons made a fitting snack with this game.
Space Race Card Game (Copyright 1957) 1 win/1 loss. Each player (Me vs Ghost Player) has their own deck of cards containing numerical planets or cards ending your turn. On your turn you draw and redraw playing planetary cards in numerical order, discarding planets out-of-order, or getting a turn-ending card. Play switches back and forth with decks being re-shuffled several times until one player completes in numerical order a play of planetary cards #1-10. Completely random; very high solitaire playability.

FRIDAY (31 JULY) CO-OP
Flash Point: Fire Rescue -- 2 Wins/0 Losses (1st time playing this game. Played basic game first, then advanced version next.)
Pandemic -- 1 Win/1 Loss with the win coming with 1 card left in the deck; had to do some fancy use of Event cards to build a research station, transfer cards, and move pieces to nail the last two cures to win the game before having to draw and thus lose the game.
Forbidden Island -- 0 Wins/2 Losses (the island sunk twice)

SATURDAY (1 AUGUST) EUROS
Lewis & Clark: The Expedition -- Lost (1st play of this so, basically learning as I went)

Board Game: Wir sind das Volk!
I went through my collection of games and came out with a list for my very first #GenCantSoloCon. As I'm rather busy at work and have planned a family trip to countryside, I'm afraid I won't be able to play more than one game each day. So, here are my options.

Day 1 - Card Games:
Board Game: Friday
Board Game: Onirim (Second Edition)
Board Game: Villannex

Day 2 - Co-op Games:
Board Game: Flash Point: Fire Rescue – Dangerous Waters
Board Game: Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island

Day 3 - Euro-Style Games with Soloable Option:
Board Game: CO₂
Board Game: Historia

Day 4 - Play multiple Sides of a Game:
Board Game: Wir sind das Volk!

I wish you all a great #GenCantSoloCon!

We play games alone, yet together!

7. Board Game: Solo [Average Rating:5.34 Overall Rank:21327]
Board Game: Solo
Made a Diary so as not to clog this list up too much with more details.

My (somewhat) ambitious plan is as follows:

Card Thursday
Board Game: The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – The Hobbit: Over Hill and Under Hill
Board Game: The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – The Hobbit: On the Doorstep
Board Game: Elder Sign
Board Game: Elder Sign: Gates of Arkham

Hoping to do the whole Hobbit saga with thematically appropriate cards, then if time on a work night a quick blast of Elder Sign with Gates of Arkham.

Co-op Friday
Board Game: Warhammer Quest
Board Game: The Witches: A Discworld Game

Would be good to try out the Skaven expansion I've been working on, then decided to try The Witches out as never played it before.

Euro Saturday
Board Game: Vasco da Gama
Board Game: Carcassonne
Board Game: Small World

Looking forward to getting Vasco da Gama down as never managed to play it yet, then trying out the solo rules for Small World (and managed to sneak in a game of Carcassonne).

vs Sunday
Board Game: Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game
Board Game: Space Hulk: Death Angel – The Card Game – Deathwing Space Marine Pack
Board Game: Race for the Galaxy
Board Game: Race for the Galaxy: The Gathering Storm
Board Game: Compounded
Board Game: Compounded: Geiger Expansion

2 old stalwarts here but planning to use the Deathwing for the first time, and have never actually used the AI dice in Race so something new, and a late addition of Compounded with the Geiger expansion so I can finish on something brand new.

Made a conscious effort to try out games or versions of games I've never played solo, so I guess that's objective achieved! Looking forward to it now.

Board Game: Time's Up!
Okay. I'm going to try and give this a shot. It would have been better if this was happening now instead of next week. I've got family coming in, and doing things solo will be difficult I'll be lucky to play one game each day solo, but I'll shoot for the following.

Thursday- Cardigans
Star Realms
Board Game: Star Realms

.
Core Worlds
Board Game: Core Worlds

Late Thursday night:

First try at a solo variant of Core Worlds that was posted on the Geek. Got slapped around bad by the AI and didn't help that I kept getting rules wrong. Not sure if I like this variant yet.

I had a round of Star Realms against Nemesis Beast. I took it down with authority although touch and go midway through game. I was able to snag the Command Ship and put it on top of my deck in the same turn, so next turn I smacked the beast for 19 authority (took it down below half life).

Friday - Coupes
My two favorite co-ops!
Freedom: The Underground Railroad
Board Game: Freedom: The Underground Railroad

Pandemic
Board Game: Pandemic

Having played Medic, Researcher, and Epidemiologist in Pandemic, my team cruised to victory over a normal difficulty game. It helped that it took a while for blue to show up and then got put to sunset real quickly.

Having played "Station Master" in Freedom, I got trounced by the game. It didn't help that I started with all the hardest slave market cards and got "Reopening Trade" right off the bat. That just increased the number of slaves on the market cards by two each.

Saturday - You're a peein'!
Caverna: The Cave Farmers
Board Game: Caverna: The Cave Farmers

Finished up my first solo play of this heavy euro. I scored 96 points. Not bad for first try.

Sunday - Versatile
Galaxy Defenders is a hot game in my house with my son.
Board Game: Galaxy Defenders

Like to try this solo -
Memoir '44
Board Game: Memoir '44

I was not able to complete the last day of the SoloCon, but I did play a lot of Splendor and Sushi Go with the kids.

Friday, 31-July CO-OP
Sentinels of the Multiverse is the most likely one for me here.

Saturday, 01-August EURO
Lords of Waterdeep is probably my pick here. I may be able to squeeze this in while on the road, though not counting on it. This day is the most up in the air for me.

Sunday, 02-August VERSUS
I'm hoping to give Viceroy a try, though may shoot for Tiny Epic Galaxies.

So after being a lurker for a couple of years on BGG this GenCant solo con has spurred me to action - being a primarily solo and coop gamer I decided it was a good oppurtunity to contribute!

So here are my plans for each day of the con;

Thursday - Card Games:
Sylvion
Absolutely loving this game and I've barely scratched the surface - having played and enjoyed the basic game for about 10 plays so far. Whilst I added some challenge by adding the flame meeple I think it's time to step up to the advanced game this week!

Potential Others:
Hostage Negotiator
Another solo only game I'm enjoying hugely currently. I've been trying and failing to help with the effort to save 1000 hostages by the end of GenCant. It's not been going well - so this might be my chance to make up for it. However this might end up being my candidate for the VS category on Sunday depending on the Royal Mail!

Friday - Co-op Games:
Pandemic: The Cure
A lot of choice for this category for me however I think the enjoyment I get out of The Cure for the relatively low time investment makes this ideal for a Friday night after an likely very long week ahead. I've already played this a lot this year so it's a bit of an uninspired choice for me.

Potential Others:
Mistfall
Just got this thought the door last week, as an early delivered Kickstarter, and I've played the intro scenario twice after fighting with the rules a bit and I've really really enjoyed it. The uniqueness of the way each hero plays and the combo potential between the cards creates a lot of fun for me - even if it's a bit more time investment than is ideal at the moment!

Saturday - Euro Games:
Viticulture
This might prove to be the most challenging day for me. Whilst I recently got Viticulture and its expansion and have been enjoying the solo campaign to uncork the various expansions - I also happen to have my new brother in laws wedding all day Saturday to attend! So hoping I can manage this early in the morning on Saturday.

Potential Others:
None. As both no time or other Euro options available!

Sunday - V.S. Games:
Baseball Highlights: 2045
Absolutely excited for this to the point I folded and ordered it from a U.S. retailer and anxiously awaiting delivery in the UK. If this arrives some point this week this will definately be my Sunday candidate for a VS game.

Backup Option
Hostage Negotiator
As mentioned above this will be my back up if the mail fails to deliver. It's the only game I own under this categories suggestions and will let me continue to fail to contribute to the 1k saved effort!

Not a lot of time these this weekend, but here is what I am planning:

CARDS Thursday
Board Game: Onirim

Onirim
This is the 1st edition and will try all expansions combined, probably before heading out to work.

Board Game: Sylvion

Sylvion
This will actually be arriving in the mail by Thursday EOD so I'll probably get a play out of it if it's not too late.

CO-OP Friday
Board Game: Pandemic

Pandemic + Pandemic: On the Brink
Humanity has to cope with a 6-strength Mutated Virulent Strain Epidemic... RIP humanity.

EURO Saturday
Board Game: Agricola

Agricola
Most of my Agricola solo gaming has been done on the great iOS app, but looking forward to taking the bits and pieces out for GenCantSoloCon. Ideally would run through a series until I can't meet the rising points requirement, but probably won't have time for that.

VS Sunday
Board Game: Dominant Species

Dominant Species
This is probably my worst Money Paid/Number of Plays ratio (I think I've played it once, 2-player), so looking forward to trying this out. Let me know if you know of any good AI for this... or maybe I'll just play all 6-species with the goal of having all of them finish the game with exactly 100 points... at which points this is probably turning into an optimization EURO hah.

Here are my plans with my limited game collection for the #GenCantSoloCon

Thursday - Card Games:
Legendary: A Marvel Deck Building Game
Marvel Legendary using a randomizer. I will probably get a few games in as I just got the game back from a fellow game group member just for this event. I only wish they would reprint Dark City already!!

Friday - Co-op Games:
Elder Sign
Using 2 random investigators. Haven't played this in a while with Eldritch Horror hitting the table more frequently with the game group. Looking forward to this one as well.

Saturday - Euro Games:
The Castles of Burgundy
Pretty sure this is the ONLY Euro game I have in my collection....no other options!

Sunday - V.S. Games:
Lagoon: Land of Druids
Haven't played this one solo yet so it should be interesting....

Thursday Cards:

Friday

Had this for a while played it in the wee early mornings. After three quick deaths, managed to win at level 1, but may have been luck and maybe forgetting to put in all the aging cards I should have. Have to admit, it's going back on the shelf probably to stay, not my kind of game.

Reiner Knizia's Razzia - The Mafia Board Game

Stumbled upon it in the iPad App Store, and fell in love. So wish that the physical version would be released (and in English) - yeah, I know it's a reskin of Ra, but James Cagney never played a Pharoah. Played it this morning, kicked butt.

Skipbo App (kicking it old school)

Friday Co-op:

Forbidden Island

Saturday Solo:

May have to skip this one, heading to the local game store (gaming and hope to get some playtest sessions in on a game I'm creating). If I have a chance, I'll check out the solo rules for Puerto Rico or Dominion

Sunday Versus:

Five Tribes

I've also got a number of iPad boardgame adaptions.

Plans:

Thursday Cards:
Epic Solitaire Notebook Adventures (this counts, right? The game itself is cards and paper, which could count as a 'scoresheet' Also on my 10x10.) LOSS
Kinga (my own game, but it deserves a play!) LOSS

Friday Co-op:
Darkest Night, my current crack. (On my 10x10, too) LOSS
Assault on Doomrock (perhaps? on my 10x10 -- though I doubt I'll have time) LOSS

Saturday Euro:
Ophir LOSS
Harbour LOSS
Forge War (perhaps?)

Sunday Versus:
Historia, because it just came in and I'm itching to play it! (I might play this one a day or two early ) LOSS, WIN
Ancients, because I love this game with all my heart and soul. Ahistorical result - I'm counting that as a win

-- Commentary --
Kinga: Short game, played with the hardcore variant. All piles were at 7 or 8 when I lost, so I didn't get too far.

Epic Solitaire Notebook Adventures: The (abortive) legend of Sir Garren the Grey ended with a fizzle, rather than a bang. In game, he made it to level 4, learned a few spells (first game with my magic system), had a few items, but earned himself a maimed limb and a deadly head wound. He retired keepless and penniless, just another servant of a mad king. Love this game

Assault on Doomrock: The sad tale of the Frustrated Ranger and Stinky Paladin began quite auspiciously. After a quick tussle with the Exploding Tomatoes which left them battered, bruised, and tasting of ketchup, they packed up, headed north, and explored. Studying up, exploiting the local markets (those desperate merchants really wanted our plucky heroes' junk), and spelunking into various dark, moist holes led our heroes into an ambush by the Wraith of Doom and his Whispy army. While the battle seemed stacked in their favor initially, eventually the wily Wraith lulled them in with a false sense of security, and then ZZzzzaaappp! And that was the last time anyone saw our heroes... well, the last time they weren't charbroiled, that is.

Darkest Night:First game with the new expansion, and therefore Mysteries. Starting team of Tamer/Alchemist/Bard/Conjurer. Started off well enough, but it eventually just got baaad. That 'shattered hope' darkness card is hell. Eventually called it a loss after some gruesome hero churn at the monastery (!!). No way I was going to be able to find another relic and kill the big bad. I really enjoy the Mystery mechanic, though. It makes things interesting

Ophir: Loss, -10 points. Used the Chancellor for the first time, but I didn't have any time to make any Temple Donations, so her power went completely unused... oh well, at least I profited from her specialist good a few times.

Harbour: 20-move variant. Loss, only 3 buildings. 25 points.

Historia: Solo play with 5 Chieftains. Came in second overall, 127-108-103-80-79-elim. Really neat game

Ancients: Played the battle of Cannae 216BC, and somehow the Romans won! Really strange game, 3-0 Rome.

Historia, round 2: Solo play with 5 Chieftains -- win! 118-95-84-elim,elim,elim. Now that I'm playing with the proper rules, the Chieftains are a bit easy

Bonus - Tiny Epic Defenders: Assassin/Necromancer vs. the Kraken on Easy. Victory.

This looks exciting to me. I'll be quite busy on Thursday and Friday, but I'm hoping that putting up a post gets me motivated to follow through on this challenge.

Thursday Cards: Friday
Sylvion

After working on a problem for 5 hours on Thursday I solved it in a two-minute phone call. Frustrated that I wasted the first five hours I decided that I could squeeze in some games.

I played Friday losing at first and then winning on level one. I don't usually tally my score out of laziness, but might begin if my win ratio increases.

I got a game of Sylvion in, but managed to burn down the forest with only two rounds left in the game.

Lastly, I played Imperial Settlers as the Romans and defeated with a robust score of 71.

Friday Co-Op: This will be the most difficult task as I don't own any co-op games which means I have a few days to either borrow or buy.
Forbidden Desert or Freedom: The Underground Railroad

Tonight I'm ordering a pizza, drinking wine, and dominating the Underground Railroad. We'll see how it goes...

Results are in. Big loss for Freedom.

Saturday: This is going to be a good day.
At the Gates of Loyang and maybe a little Agricola. If I don't end up playing games with friends in the evening, I might add Viticulture: Tuscany – Expand the World of Viticulture. But who are we kidding? I'll be playing these either solo or with friends.

Sunday: Tonight someone is swinging by with Viceroy. If the person is an actual guy selling off part of his game collection and not a serial killer, then I'm hoping to learn it on Sunday.

I was going to try and play mostly games by the sponsors but then I realised that most of the games I own are by different publishers (even the ones also published by the sponsors). I then thought about trying to play games that will help me complete my 10 games 10 plays challenge but I would have struggles with some of the categories as I've already completed plays for some of the games. So I'm just going to take a weekend off from worrying about the challenge and play games that I really want to get to the table. This is my initial list that mostly incorporates games in my 10x10 challenge.

Thursday - Cards
- Friday
Played a quick game before work on difficulty level 3. My worst score to date. I started way too aggressively and paid the price by running out of food early on.

Fighting: 19
Aging: -15
Pirates: 0
Life points: 0
Hazards: -63
Total: -59

- Dominion
My lunch time game for GenCantSoloCon. I've just got out of a meeting so I can finally update with my lunchtime game. I played using the SoloPlay variant.

VP = 53
Deductions = 4
Easy Bonus = 5 (had a total of 5 buy/action)
Total Score = 54. A Loss.

Why isn't Gen Can't in the board game event database?

Well, GenCon is just good enough to be used for this geeklist entry.

On Thursday I will most likely play Friday. I might put in a game of The Game with my 6 nimmt! cards.

Friday will most likely be Pandemic or maybe Shadows over Camelot with 3 knights and no traitor?

On Saturday it's either Nations or Viticulture. If I'm too tired I'll might just go with Roll Through the Ages: The Iron Age.

Sunday is still open to almost everything, but maybe I just test my new Magic: The Gathering commander deck.

First game played on Thursday:

FRIDAY
Played inofficial level 5 (only 16+2 HP, rest level 4)
Everything went well (though it was close several times)till the 2nd pirate ship where I would have most likely needed 1 more HP to draw another card. Maybe I play another game later.

Stuff for Friday:

#Unpandemic
Skynet world domination. There are 4 AIs that try to conquer the world. The players must travel into those cities and purge the AI from the local intranets. Once there is a critical mass those AI tentacles break into neighbouring computers and if left unchecked Arnie "will be back"...

Didn't get around to Pandemic, so no actual play on Friday.

Stuff for Saturday:

Roll Through the Ages: The Iron Age

I played twice and started with a second harbor in both games (as I think this leads to higher scores with no non-military player around that is easy prey with low military).

The first game I went with a more military centric strategy and also went for provinces and scored 136 (though I have to confess that I'm not sure if I missed counting a round (and so played 9 instead of 8).

The second game I only got the provinces later and went for a pure trading strategy with monuments and got a great 141 points that were definitely (I think 90%+) in 8 rounds.

I'm also trying to write an ode now.

Hi all,

It will be my 1st participation to a BGG event: sounds quite exiting.
I'll play a mix of physical and digital versions.

Thursday - Cards

Board Game: The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game

Box version and probably some IOS Cardwarden tries too: My last crack, pretty hard, but I love that game.

Board Game: Friday

Box or IOS Cardwarden: Likely Cardwarden. I'll probably die on the island, but I'll keep trying to beat it

Board Game: Innovation

Box version: Going to be my 1st game of innovation ever: Will try my best to understand the BGG solo rules. I think it's going to be challenging.

Friday - Co-Op

Board Game: Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island

Box version: one of my favorite game. I'll play the Cursed island, and will use the BGG solo contest setup.

Board Game: Sentinels of the Multiverse

IOS version: Its' very well done on the Ipad. Great for solo

Board Game: Castle Panic

Box version: I haven't play that one in a while. Quite exited to put in back on the table

Saturday - Euro

Board Game: Lewis & Clark: The Expedition

Box version: I like that game, but I haven't played it much. Almost only solo. I need to put it back on the table during our multiplayers game nights

Board Game: Lords of Waterdeep

IOS version: playing against the IA, with skullport expension

Board Game: Agricola

IOS version: I'll play the solo challenge on the Ipad

Sunday - Versus

I'll go with a space theme

Board Game: Tiny Epic Galaxies

Home made box version: Quite a fun game solo, even better multi.

Board Game: Star Realms

IOS version: With gambit expension

Board Game: Race for the Galaxy: The Gathering Storm

Box version, or most likely computer version with IA (keldon.net/rftg): One of my favorite game. I'll use this opportunity to try the 1st expansion
