Hello!

The Solo RPGs On Your Table geeklists are really a great resource for solitaire RPG gamers. However, they are also a bane for our purses as they point out all those new games we could purchase. And regularly, we cave in.

This is a list to commemorate those moments where we were bewitched but also to get a feeling for the power of those geeklists.

31 Aug: Discussing need for "SROYT Made me Buy This" list on Sept SROYT list. People decided to wait a day or 2.
1 Sept: I succumbed to entry on Sept list, and instantly decided that if I was going to spend $$, then I needed to throw somebody under the bus--and hey, I DID wait a day!

02-September: I was reviewing the current listings on Solo RPGs on Your Table - September 2015 when I saw the comment about Heart of Ice having a Kickstarter campaign for their gamebook Collector's Edition. Hmmmm... I thought to myself and then I went to the Kickstarter and got sucked into the very intriguing gamebook.

03-September: I felt the compulsion to go back to the Kickstarter page and I could not control myself because they had a digital {PDF} version. I am weak... but now I feel fulfilled.

I blame this 'Made me buy this!' moment of weakness on:

If I've bought Star Trader, I'll need the Core Rule Book. PDF from Drivethrou, that'll fit nicely on my pad.

Then I'll be tempted to buy another Dredd RPG, the someone will wave the B5 and new Trek RPGs my way. When will it end . . . ?

It's a bargain price, but it's still real money. I've never done the Traveller thing before, but this sounded fun, interesting, and as a solo it felt relevant.

"Besides, it's only a couple of bucks."
But it's exactly this sort of thinking that sends you down the rabbit hole, isn't it.

It's the wrong item, but I fortuitously received an email this morning letting me know about the Mongoose beta for newly revised Traveller core rules. This was after the RPGGeek news of its release yesterday.

I've bought Star Trader, but it depends on the Traveller rules. No problem, I downloaded the free PDF Book 0: An Introduction to Traveller, but then I also need a sector, and a whole lot of colour.

Sigh... US$20 later, I'm looking at a bundle of crisp, new PDFs with the Traveller core rules, a couple of adventures, some deck plans, ...

I knew I should have set up my own mobile wifi connection rather than relying on the free in-house rubbish.

Right. Finally . . .

Star Trader is now lurking on my laptop and ipad for quick reference along side the above mentioned Traveller Main/Core book. I'm beginning to wonder what other Traveller goodies I may want to buy next.

You know, I happily resisted buy any Traveller products since the early 1980s until SROYT scuppered my resolve. (The occasional miniatures that may or may not have been Traveller themed that were bought to use in other games are not counted.)

I would stand in what became Games Workshop in the Bull Ring in Birmingham UK, and look at the shelves and after smiling I would walk on.

The shop is now gone, (not that GW stocks anything non GW since 1991 (I remember the sad and fateful day when I went to GW to pick up some Dredd miniatures for the RPG and all they had was Warhammer)) and now the resolve too. cry

On plus side I can buy as many Traveller PDFs things as I can afford and the wife wont say "where on earth are you going to put that stuff?", as she does any after something has caught my eye on sister list SGOYT.

Edited here and there my crummy spellings - and then edited the corrections too.

So I already succumbed and bought the Kindle version of Heart of Ice, which was wonderful. It reminded me that I'd been promising myself a copy of the reprinted Fabled Lands series for a while now - so I ended up buying the first two books in the series (to qualify for free shipping of course).

I bought "Life's Lottery" by Kim Newman. As a CYA with no stats or other RPG elements other than the actual choices, it doesn't belong in the RPGG database, but this one is brilliant. The introduction asks you to choose between free will and pre-destination. That's so meta my brain almost melted!

P.s. In a synchronistic moment of meta, Systemless Gamebooks are in the RPGG database under "System"...

I just got myself Star Trader plus Traveller (Mongoose) book 0 from DrivethruRPG. Aaaaand I am about to order the Traveller RPG core rule book these days too. I am really impressed by all that I read about the game / system and I am really looking forward to this. And it's a nice little distraction for me these days.

I've been thinking about giving Tunnels & Trolls a try this year, and I stumbled across this on DriveThruRPG - it's a reprint of the first edition rules, and it's available for less than $2. I thought it might be cool to try some of the old solo modules using these rules - Solo 01: Buffalo Castle, here I come!

Interest was raised when he said it was a simple D6 only system.
Early days, but further (PDF) adventures are cheap.

The big question will be which Edition?

Edit: Having hit a few bumps with 'Longest Night', took the plunge with Deluxe Ed Rules (for ease with the 7.x written Solo's).
While shopping also grabbed the 3 Pocket Delves for their different layout, and Alice in Wonderland.

Actually, I bought the whole Buried Without Ceremony collection just because I thought the whole idea of "games that mean something" in RPG design was so cool.

Have I mentioned that my main vice is buying games faster than I get 'round to playing them? This is an order of magnitude more true with RPGs...
