So you just bought/acquired Myth - congratulations!

If you've found this list you know (or are about to learn) that Myth has gone through a number of revisions since it hit retail shelves in mid-2014. This list attempts to capture all the pertinent "to-do's" for you to do in order to update your game to the latest version.

Doing this gives you the best play experience and should result in the least number of headaches when learning how to play this game.

There are many of us here on BGG that participated in the original kickstarter and have been playing for quite some time. As one of those people, I know how much I enjoy this game and hope some of this information can help you ease into the world of Myth. Aside from what I consider the "must do's", I've included additional information that I've found valuable over the years. This content starts at entry #6.

In order to keep this list somewhat clean, I have disabled public additions to the list. If you have ideas on items that need to be added/changed, please comment or hit me via PM. Thanks!

Latest Content - 2.0

The designers of Myth have taken the overwhelming amount of community feedback and redesigned most of the base game content. The latest ZIP file exists here (on MegaCon's website).

The current content of this ZIP file is:

Hero Cards
The 5 base heroes (Acolyte, Apprentice, Archer, Brigand, Soldier) each receive a brand new deck of cards (31 cards for each). Completely replace your base hero decks with this content. You can discard the original content.

Item Cards
All item cards (Brown, White, Green, Blue) have been updated. Completely replace your item cards with this content. You can discard the original content.

Monster and Ally Cards
The monster cards were completely redesigned and now have two sides to them. Replace all the base monster cards with this content and discard originals if desired. The ally cards are new; originally they were found in the rulebook.

Quests
The base game quest cards changed dramatically. The quests are now double sided like the monster cards. Megacon basically rewrote every quest in the game to not only reflect this new format, but also so they read more clearly. They also removed the slaughterfield mechanic from quests. There were some quests completely removed and new ones written to take their place. Completely replace all quest cards with this new content and discard originals if desired.

Traps
These cards are new. Traps used to be found in the rulebook, but were replaced with cards in order to make them more flexible. Traps are now designed for more than just a single tile size.

Rulebook
The original rulebook was a source of great frustration and was completely rewritten based on community feedback. Replace the original rulebook with the one from the ZIP, but I don't recommend discarding the original rules. There are several sections of the original rulebook that were not replicated in the updated rulebook - most notably from my perspective are the individual hero pages. Besides the hero section, the original story quests are found here as well.

NOTE: Merchants and Darkness cards have not changed and MegaCon has stated these are not changing.

2.0 Content Shipping
As of early December 2015, the 2.0 content is shipping to all backers of the Journeyman KS. This is the physical content of the zip file mentioned above. MegaCon Games stated they will sell this physical content on their WebStore once backers receive so anyone that didn't participate in the Myth JM Kickstarter can acquire this content directly from MegaCon.

Update Feb 8, 2016

You can purchase the 2.0 content from MegaCon for $10 (plus Shipping) here. I've heard these are limited supplies so get it while you can.

Edit 2/8/15 - Added Link to online 2.0 purchase

How do I update the quests?

Although the content of #1 should be sufficient in guiding people through the process of replacing content, the quests have changed significantly and without instructions from Megacon caused some confusion.

The quest format changed a great deal. For one, these cards are now double sided so you can't confuse them with 1.0 cards. Replace all quests (Act/Story/Chapter) with the cards from the 2.0 Deck.

A few pieces of information to keep in mind:

1) Megacon did away with the Slaughterfield in Quests game mechanic
2) There are no longer "Act" quest cards
3) There are no longer "Story" quest cards
4) Quests from base no longer branch into expansions
5) There are new quests in the 2.0 pack

Here's a list of all the 31 2.0 quest cards (alphabetical)

A Desperate Act (Replaces Original Card)
A Father’s Grief (Replaces Original Card)
Bait & Switch (Replaces Original Act Quest Card)
Clear the Road (Replaces Original Card)
Counting Sheep (Replaces Original Card)
Cut Bait and Run (Replaces Original Act Quest Card)
Darkness Tested (New)
Dr. Emberweave’s Cureall (Replaces Original Card)
For Glory and Honor (Replaces Original Card)
Get Tactical (Replaces Original Card)
Going to the Chapel (Replaces Original Card)
I Like My Odds (Replaces Original Card)
Just-Okay Hunt (Replaces Original Card - Original card title started with "THE")
Light the Fires (Replaces Original Act Quest Card)
Lucy’s Doll (Replaces Original Card)
Lucy’s Troubles (Replaces Original Card)
On Darkened Heels (New)
Overreaching (New)
Ready to Rescue (New)
Rescue My Daughter (Replaces Original Card)
Set the Trap (Replaces Original Act Quest Card)
Stolen Treasure (Replaces Original Card)
The Abbey’s Coffers (Replaces Original Act Quest Card)
The Accidental Cure (Replaces Original Card)
The Darkness Within (New)
The Hand of Darkness (Replaces Original Act Quest Card)
The Parish Gates (New)
The Red Wedding (Replaces Original Act Quest Card)
The Two Fathers (Replaces Original Act Quest Card)
The Weavers Needs (Replaces Original Card)
To Cut off the Head (New)

There was one card in the original base game content that I found no replacement for - Drums of the World. It chains into an expansion quest chain so I expect it will show up in the expansion quest deck. I will toss it, but some might want to keep it around just in case.

If you have quest cards from the KS (Connor's Toy), do not discard...yet. The update should come with the JM shipment since that was a KS exclusive.

Do I need additional figures?

This topic generated a plethora of drama when Myth first came out. Based on that alone, I believe it's important to include this question in this geeklist.

Based on the latest release of rules, you do not need any additional figures outside of what's in the base retail box. The 2.0 edition of rules added the following to address running out of (or not having) miniatures.

If players ever need to spawn enemies and do not have enough miniatures to spawn those enemies, the darkness meter is
increased depending on the number and rank of missing enemies. For every three minion miniatures missing (rounded up), increase the darkness AP by 1. For each other rank of miniatures missing, increase the darkness AP by 1.

I realize this answer doesn't sit well with everyone in the community. Some don't ever want to leverage this new rule and will ask things like, "how many miniatures do I need in order to play Myth without this rule?".

I think this is a fair question. For those that prefer to play Myth without the rule mentioned above, here's the advice based on community feedback:

First off, there's no absolute "right answer" here, however, based on what I'd consider community consensus, the ratio of Minions to Captains to Boss seems to be 20/4/1. So for instance if we're talking about Grubbers and Muckers, you should have 20 Grubbers and 4 Muckers. This is based on people's desire to run double lairs (of the same species) and/or run a slaughterfield game.

Therefore, if you fall into the 20/4/1 camp, you're going to want more figures. They can be picked up directly from Megacon Games if you can't find them in your FLGS.

Yardu Card

The one mini-boss included in the base game of myth is Yardu. Yardu is an Unholy, Undead creature that is really hard to hit (requires 2 8's from your attack roll). He has a set of special abilities, one of which is called Necrotic Aura. This particular ability spawns a creature called a Soulless. Unfortunately the Soulless monster is not part of the base retail game.

To solve this problem, there are several options available to you. A couple I recommend are:

The latest rules state "If players ever need to spawn enemies and do not have enough miniatures to spawn those enemies, the darkness meter is increased depending on the number and rank of missing enemies. For every three minion miniatures missing (rounded up), increase the darkness AP by 1. For each other rank of miniatures missing, increase the darkness AP by 1". So in this instance, instead of spawning a Soulless, you can simply raise the AP by 1.

There was a fan made solution to the Yardu/Soulless problem. Mfaulk80 put together this card early on which simply spawns a Stalker instead of a Soulless. You can find this in the files section of BGG or by clicking here. Please note this card is in the 1.0 Monster format so it only has one side.

In late December 2015, Megacon refactored the Rise of the Revenant into Module format. There's a Soulless card in the PDF for the Rise of the Revenant Module that you can find here. You'll still need to proxy the miniature, but the card is available now.

Stories are now Modules

If you check out the original rulebook, you'll see there's a section for "Story Quests" starting on page 50.

The concept of "Story Quests" came late in the original Myth KS. This gameplay element was not part of the initial design, but was added based on overwhelmingly positive feedback from KS backers. Backers wanted the choice of playing a larger "story" instead of just individual quests (some loosely strung together). The designers came up with the "Story Quest" concept and included these stories in the rulebook as the concept didn't lend itself well to card format.

Since the release of Myth, community feedback has gravitated more towards a "fuller/richer story" experience. Megacon listened and released some free story content (see entry below for details) to meet customer demand. Community feedback was positive - positive enough for MegaCon to create what's now called a "Module". While no one has seen a Module at the time of this writing, these are rumored to be more of a D&D module, with a much deeper story element than what was included in the "Story Quests". Modules makeup a great deal of the Myth Journeyman KS and appear to be a focus of that campaign.

It is believed that the stories from the original rulebook will receive a "Module Makeover" at some point. No solid ETA has been established. The first converted story is scheduled for release in Q416 Patch. The remaining 4 stories delivery remain TBD.

Until then, the original "Story Quests" can be played as-is if desired. Do not draw chapter quests when playing the Story.

"Free" Official Content

As noted above, MegaCon games has released some free story content to compliment the game of Myth. This releases on roughly a quarterly basis. It is not clear to me if they intend to continue releasing new content once they complete the Revenant story.

At the time of this writing, Megacon has released a full story and the beginning of a second. It's probably too early to call out a trend, but based on the Journeyman Kickstarter, it does appear they've taken an approach where they release the story for free and follow that up with an option to purchase the components (new tiles, monsters, agents, etc.). Basically the approach appears to be:

Release the stories on their website for free. Components are based on released retail content.
New creatures/npcs in the story are intended to have their models proxied, but may later be released as official creatures/npcs

Fury of the Fireborne*
The first release is called "Fury of the Fireborne" and may be downloaded from MegaCon's site here. This 3 Act story uses miniatures from the base game of Myth (Grubbers/Crawlers/Muckers)but creates new monster cards for these miniatures. The story also introduces some new content (new monsters must be proxied).

Rise of the Revenant
MegaCon gave us all a treat with this one. They released this in late 2015 in Module format. This is what the Journeyman modules will look like. You can pick this up here.

This module leverages miniatures not found in the base retail game along with tiles and agents also outside the base retail offering
. If desired, you can pickup this entire package (all content included) from MegaCon's store.

*Note this story was turned into a module during the Journeyman KS. It will receive a rewrite and become a retail offering complete with miniatures, tiles, and cards.

Free Community Content

In my opinion, Myth really is a Dungeon Crawler Creation System (DCCS). I really think this design shines when you consider how "easy" it is to create new content (see entry below for more details).

A handful of BGG members have created additional content in the form of new monsters, new heroes, new stories, play variants, etc. Of course you can find all of these in the Myth Files section or Forum Variants section if you want look for yourself.

I'll list some of my favorite entries to make the searching a little easier. If you don't see your favorite listed let us know in the comments. I've definitely not seen/played 100% of the content uploaded and have likely missed some gems, so YMMV here.

New Heroes
The Wilder - Druid
Death Knight - Plus a 2 act story that leverages content

New Monsters (these are mostly 1.0 format)
MFaulk80's monster variants
Careless' Stalker Variants
Treasure Goblins - Borrowed from Diablo

New Stories
BGG Story Competition stories
Girl Next Door
Myth Campaign Arc

Miscellaneous
Tuck Boxes-these are works of art! Highly recommend these. Megacon is offering in Journeyman KS (along with some new ones).
Item Card Colored Backs
Movement Tracking Card - Helps keep track of your hero's movement
Jude's Slaughterfield Rules - MegaCon plans to release a proper set of Slaughterfield rules for 2.0. Until then, Judy's posted a variant using Slaughterfield as a true co-op or solo (with 2 or more heroes), using the Slaughterfield expansion decks.

References

Everyone has their favorite reference document or player aid. Below are a couple that I've found useful.

1.0 Hero Deck Reference - This was a godsend at the beginning of Myth's lifespan. It's mostly still relevant. I wish MegaCon would update this to 2.0. Unfortunately I've been told (by MegaCon) that this document isn't a priority and likely won't receive an update.

Hero Tracking Sheet - Allows you to track your hero's gear, titles, etc. between play sessions.

Videos

I must admit that I am partial to the videos MegaCon released regarding setup and gameplay. While they use the original rules in these videos, most of the content is still relevant today. I used these videos to teach myself how to play. It was as if Brian and Kenny came over and taught me how to play in my living room. There is hours of content here, but I can say the investment in time does pay off.

The video series can be found on Keith Lowe's Youtube channel.

Another video series that I think is excellent is from BGG user Remi. These videos were the first fan made videos that I saw. Remi spends a tremendous amount of time sharing the mechanics of Myth in a great teaching style. While these videos are over the 1.0 rules, like the MegaCon videos, I still think there's value in them.

Remi's YouTube channel is found here.

BGG user RandomFleming and I started a channel as well called Urban Myth. Of course I'm biased, but believe there's some good content here presented in a unique way. The Urban Myth YouTube channel is found here.

Homebrew Variants

As I mentioned in an earlier entry, I think one of the real compelling aspects of Myth to be the ability to create your own content. Several members of the Myth community have sick Photoshop skills and created photoshop templates of all the Myth cards. Right now most are 1.0 formats, but don't let that stop you from creating new content.
