I will post our letters
and all the replies.

He feels that my comments

for a man who loves games.
So I'll give him a show.

Watch our discourse
and have fun if you will.
And do please rhyme;
you get the drill.

Our discourse I will add

My Secret Santa wanted me to post to the 2015 Secret Santa Taunts & Teases page, so I have.

Now, as to those puppies.

I would still like a photograph of the newly arrived wonders and Michelle wants to you to know we have fostered dogs in the past. Our own two dogs are rescue dogs. One loves to play (bite) me a lot and the other is a princess.

I had a short and to the point message letting me know xmas will come in november this year!

Dear Byron,

since Santa is extremely busy this year, he decided to not wait but deliver as fast as possible. Your present should arrive before the end of this month and I hope you'll enjoy it. Feel free to open the package any time you want, this Santa does not care about the date.

Best regards

Santa

Help needed!
As I have obviously has been really good this year my Secret Santa is promising board game gifts this year. But to get the s in gifts I have to do some "easy" tasks for Santa. The first is to post a picture on this GeekList. A picture of Santa's favorite Magic card. It's a red card portraying a "big *ss missile weapon", OR if I didn't know what card it is I was free to ask for help.

I thought, "That's a rather specific card, can't be hard to find". So I did a quick visual inspection of every red magic card I could find on gatherer.wizards.com (about 2400 cards). But none of artwork seemed to be of such a weapon. I need your help. Do you know what card Santa is thinking of, any help will be appreciated.

PS. The post also needs to collect at least three thumbsup, and collect at least 0.13 .

PPS. If no one knows what card Santa wants I'm hoping Santa will be happy with how I imagine the card could look. So below is a rather crude drawing of a quite large *ss missile weapon.

Spoiler (click to reveal)

Well Ho Ho Ho this ought to be plenty easy for me to find something you will be happy with.

My workshop has been putting together games for as long as I can recall, and I know all the games kids want.

Let's see, there's Monopoly, Sorry, Memory, Life, Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary (Mrs. Clauses' favorite!), Candy Land (my favorite), and so many more... I am certain any of these would suit you very well.

Perhaps if you've been especially good, I'll pick more than one from the list for you!!

Ho Ho Ho, Hunting season is upon us one again and Santa's been waiting for a fresh target all year. Santa has been watching you both from the shadows and does not agree that Geraint has kept his beard out of the sink! Santa can see everything and cannot be fooled! My super sensitive hearing cannot be tricked either Rhyannon... just because puny humans like Geraint cant hear you does not mean I do not! Santa will not allow such naughty behaviour to go unpunished and there is no where for you both to hide when Santa has his sights set

This (little bit creepy) message was accompanied by a photo of a Predator in a Santa hat - a clue as to our present perhaps? Or a red herring?

---

Santa has been in touch again, with a wonderfully generous offer:

Santa wrote:
Greetings Geraint and Rhyannon

I apologise for my creepy brother he really spends too much time alone in the woods and can sometimes come across a little 'odd' but he really does mean well. Last year Santa was very kind to you both and the girls with 3 perfectly tailored gifts, but this year Santa cannot see something for the girls on your wishlist. Santa would like to grant 3 wishes so choose them carefully, and no wishing for more wishes either!

You can see the gifts Santa refers to on our profile page; last year's Santa was indeed very generous, sending us three big box games. We didn't dare to dream that we'd be in receipt of such generosity two years in a row, but it appears that we have been very lucky. I sat down with the kids to look through the family game list here on BGG to add some items to the wishlist that they liked the look of. Once we had done this, Santa was back in touch very quickly:

Santa wrote:
To Geraint, Rhyannon & the Girls

Some excellent choices from the Girls and Santa will will put his halflings to work right away! Unfortuantly Santa is very busy this year what with all the dwellings he has to visit, so he may need some help from a friendly third party courier service but never fear Santa will let you know when to expect the festive Amazon elves to come knocking. Please share our messages with the other fine members of the cult of BGG to spread the festive cheer and i will send news soon

Thank you so much Santa - it certainly sounds like we're in for a treat this Christmas!

Santa sent a message, and my two sons were eager to see what he had to say:

Quote:
Hello there young man, my elves have informed me that you have been an exceptionally good boy this year and that you deserve special attention. So, I have been looking down your Christmas list and I think Ice found something that you will quite like and get a lot of use out of. Oh, Mrs. Clause asks me to point out that when I say that I don't mean you'll be getting a woolen sweater. Anyway, I need to feed Rudolph before he gets grumpy and eats a lose-bearing candy cane so MERRY CHRISTMAS or, if you're that way inclined, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

It just got cold here, and I could use that sweater...

My Santa reached out to me with a few tasks to accomplish here on the geek. Here's his note:

Quote:
Subject: Ho Ho Ho!
Santa likes a good little boy who puts together a comprehensive, wide-ranging wishlist -- even if he is shooting for the moon a bit.

Santa also likes those who participate in BGG life. Since it is the season of giving, he thinks maybe you should be able to give out a few more thumbs. Hmm. maybe double? Ho ho ho, let's round it up to an even 750, shall we? Santa can be a harsh taskmaster; just ask the elves.

Santa will be watching. Meanwhile, he would also like you answer these questions (on your profile):

1) Wide or deep? That is, are you someone who would appreciate a few standalone games, or one game plus expansions?

2) What is the most effective game move you ever pulled, and what is the worst?

3) If there was one game you'd like to feed slowly into a wood chipper, what would it be, and why?

One further task: you rate seven games at 10 (9.5 counts as a 10), but have no comments about them. Add comments to half (that is, four -- Santa rounds up, as you know) and tell people why you love these games so much (one paragraph is fine)! That is what makes BGG great!

I'll be checking up later...

Your pal,

Santa

I'm hard at work thumbing away and here are my answers to his questions:

1) Wide or deep? That is, are you someone who would appreciate a few standalone games, or one game plus expansions?

This is a very hard question for me to answer, as both are quite appealing to me (thus the contents of my wishlist), but if I must choose one I'd say "a few standalone games."

2) What is the most effective game move you ever pulled, and what is the worst?

I believe that my best gaming move occurred during an epic session of Risk Legacy, where I managed to score 3 red stars in one turn and pull off an epic come from behind win (I'd tell you the details but I wouldn't want to spoil any secrets ). My worst gaming move (and my worst gaming moment) came during a game of Cosmic Encounter, where I reacted very poorly to an alliance that formed against me between my wife (then girlfriend) and my sister-in-law (I was much younger and more immature at that time). To this day, I must live with my regret as my wife will no longer play games with such direct conflict.

3) If there was one game you'd like to feed slowly into a wood chipper, what would it be, and why?

The one game I'd like to feed into a wood chipper (Fargo Style) would be Cards Against Humanity, as I deeply love good party games and CAH is just the worst. I believe the guys from Shut Up & Sit Down expressed my feelings about this game perfectly.

As you'll see below, by Secret Santa is not a taunter. However, s/he made early contact with a brief message, then yesterday sent me this:

Santa wrote:
Hello again Lenny-
There is a parcel headed your way. The elves in the tracking department give a Thursday arrival estimate. Feel free to open and enjoy when it arrives.
There is no need to wait for Sinterklaas much less Christmas. Besides the family might get a bit concerned if they see you trying to leave out large shoes in hopes of a large game.
I would appreciate it if you would let me know that everything arrived safely.
I am not good with taunting so will not try to drag things out for you. Best wishes for the season.

Are these hints? I think so! Could it be I have a Secret Sinterklaas from the Netherlands? One of my stellar previous Santas was also from the Netherlands, and because of that experience we now have several Saint Nicholas (Sinterklaas) decorations in our collection. That year, he even made me translate my wishlist into Dutch!

As to the large shoes, it makes me wonder which game might be coming. Could it be Food Chain Magnate? Or is it The Gallerist? I guess I'll just have to wait until Thursday to find out!!

Wonderful things happen when Father Christmas calls. I have had issues with random visits from angry elves. Worrying but clearly they are interpreting nice things to do in an Al Pacino way.

If Snodgrass the elf geekmails you, just do it. Whatever it is. You'll know he's serious about his skills with a boat hook. So I'll let you know what the adventure brings.

Looking forward to summer (as midsummer is when we have Christmas).

(I was not sure what to do for the item, so I picked what may have been appropriate!)

So this is the second time I have done the BGG Secret Santa. First time, it was a cool experience, although I did join during the Second Chance so it was a challenge with giving my target their gifts. My Secret Santa was pretty cool, although not as talkative as my current Santa! I will have to say, that I was not expecting this! Rhymes, BGG Gold, Interaction demands?!? It is a real pleasure and I will have to say that I am totally diggin' it. As a second experience, it has definitely provided me with a good example of what a SS could do!

Hopefully everybody else is also enjoying this as much as I am!

**Update**
With the help of my Secret Santa, I hope you guys enjoy the following rhymes and limericks that have emerged from this wondrous event!

So here is your job: Post of a picture of you playing a game. A specific game. If it's the wrong game, there's no presents for you. Better be good, and get you wife to help, she seems like the smart one in the family. Here are your clues:

1. It's in your collection; you own it.
2. The designer demoed the game at Spiel2015.
3. You've played it more often that The Resistance but less often than Race for the Galaxy (great, great game, by the way. The elves approve).
4. Multiplying your rating of the game by 9 and then diving it by 5 wouldn't change it.
5. Your role in the game can be that of [xyz], for example. There is only 1 [xyz] and the word contains twice as many "s" as "a".
6. The designer's first name has three vowels. The designer's first name has only one vowel. There is only one designer.

Santa, you taunting trickster, I have solved your puzzle (I'm pretty sure) and the Confounding Code Names Conundrum is over! In the spirit of your terrible taunting trial I may have sent a bit of a subliminal message in the image...

I have been having some lovely correspondence with my Secret Santa who wrote to me on Day 1 and has been keeping me informed (and excited) ever since laughcoollaugh <--- that's me running around yelling woohoo, followed by acting cool, followed by more woohoo-ing

Santa asked that I'd share some of our correspondence - and why not - we need to share in wonder that is BGG Secret Santa!!! I had been wondering where this year's version of this geeklist was and ths gave me extra incentive to find it (turns out it wasn't that hard to find shake)

Santa wrote:

I very much enjoyed reading about you, as well as your friends and family, and I deeply appreciate the care you put into sharing with me. In the past, I've had less-than-stellar Secret Santa experiences, and you've helped renew my Christmas spirit. And given that I'm Santa, that's quite an accomplishment! Ho ho ho!

I'll give your suggestions some serious thought, and make my recommendations to the Elves as soon as possible!

Regards,
Santa

So I wake up after being assigned our targets and checked BGG...and...SANTA WROTE TO ME, SANTA WROTE TO ME - that i what I'm yelling at my boyfriend as he comes back after his shower.

It made me feel really great that Santa appreciated the letter I wrote to give them a better idea of me, and I'm extra glad I put in the effort if it helped grow their Christmas spirit (cos Santa needs him some Christmas spirit!!!)

My reply:

13/11/15

Hey Santa, I am so excited to hear from you! Sorry to hear about having less-than-stellar experiences before :/ Feel free to ask me any questions to help make your life easier, I'll try to reply as soon as I can.

Quick Note: I just realised that on my list of NZ stores #2 on the list was the wrong link: it was supposed to link to GameDepository, so I have now updated it.

Anyway, I'd better get myself off to work now plus my pets are conspiring to bring the house down around me (I'm pretty sure the cat is the mastermind).

Take care,

Lizzie

FYI the pets were plotting against me...more on that later

Santa wrote:

I see that you received my first message; wonderful! Thank you for updating the link; I'll have my elves check it out.

I do have a question for you. Are there any games that you would never want to receive? I ask this because I may stray from the path of convenience and select a gift for you that I personally enjoy with Mrs. Claus and the reindeer, but is not on your Wishlist. However, I believe it's something that meets the spirit of what you and your companions would enjoy!

I apologize for the mysteeeeerious nature of my inquiry, but I would be sad to learn that my choice was something that you have perhaps played in the past but didn't find to your liking.

Warmest wishes,
Santa

This got me extra excited that Santa had read through my letter and wishlist and was considering going off-list (who doesn't love surprises?!) but also asked me if there was anything we particularly didn't enjoy - I'd put a decent amount of effort into writing comments in my wishlist and any games I'd rated to give them a glimpse of my gaming tastes and habits

My reply:

13/11/15 (Second reply)

Hi Santa,

Firstly, let me say that I have told people at my work and my boyfriend and my sister that SANTA WROTE TO ME! I love the whole being-a-little-kid thing that BGGSS does for adults.

Ok, down to business - There are a few things I don't particularly like - Rion and I really didn't enjoy Munchkin at all, so I doubt I would enjoy games similar to that. We also found Get Bit to be a bit lack lustre. I have two games in my Previously Owned list which are Mystery Express and Family Business - neither was bad but they just didn't capture us enough to get played more than 1 or 2 times.

Other things I'm not super keen on are Anime art (but for an amazing game I would try to get past it), or hideous art (e.g. Ascension) - I can't help it, I appreciate beautiful artwork laugh

Wow, now I've put all that down I feel ridiculously fussy. Hopefully that helps a little though.

Now I'm off to eat leftover risotto (not my best cooking but decent lol).

Peace Out Santa,

Lizzie

I never got to eat that risotto...life conspired against me that day...

Santa wrote:

Lizzie, I have some great news, and some "ho ho hum" news.

The great news is: Your presents are on their way! Yes, that's plural! Rejoice! You will receive two parcels: Once from BookDepository, and one from... well, I'll keep that a secret!

The "Ho ho hum" news: I was unable to conceal the identity of the elf who requisitioned the gifts. Neither supplier offered that choice. *sigh*

So, I must ask you a favor. When you receive the parcels, please do your best to NOT look at the invoice slips, lest you spoil the magic (and possibly kill a fairy in the process). Also, I recommend you open the BookDepository box first. You'll understand when the time comes.

I hope you have a glorious holiday season, and enjoy your gifts with all your friends and family.

Warmest wishes,
Santa

I was all "!!!"..."!!!"..."!!!" (speechless excitement) after this message and went and informed my sister that she would have to be on the lookout for any post for me and to make sure any invoices were out of sight

My reply:

15/11/15

Hey Santa,

Firstly, apologies for not replying yesterday - I injured my back and found it rather difficult to type from the way I was lying down.

Thank you very much! Wow, you are super fast. Also thanks for the heads up to be expecting things in the post - my sister is generally be about in the daytime when post comes so I'll get her to remove any invoices to prevent magic-spoilage and fairy deaths

I will make sure to open the Book Depository one first. I was wondering if you would like me to wait until Christmas to open both items? I generally wait, but if the Book Depository one needs to be opened earlier, you know I guess I could force myself to open it earlier whistle

I'm really excited (Rion thinks it is hilarious that I keep forgetting my birthday is in less than a week and that I keep talking about Chistmas stuff) - I've really enjoyed communicating with you and hope you are having a marvellous time with your Santa too.

Keep being awesome,

Lizzie

So remember when I said my pets were conspiring against me? Well, they always but on the day I injured my back I discovered that my lovely cat had broken a glass (he does such things when to say he's hungry/grumpy/enter-mood-swing-here. I wanted to clean everything up so that no one would cut their foot on any shards of glass. So I went to get hte vacuum cleaner and...hurt my back...I know, it wasn't the cat's fault but I have to assign blame somewhere (I injured my back in to incidents last year for which I make regular chiropractor appointments to rehab it)

Santa wrote:
Ho Ho Ho!

Lizzie, I'm sorry to hear that you were injured, and I hope you're feeling better. Try sipping on some egg nog; it always works for me!

I'll leave it up to you whether you want to open your gifts early. I only ask that you wait for both parcels to arrive, and then open them in the order I suggested in my last letter to you. Consider it a late birthday present if you wish! I would also appreciate it if you shared your thoughts on our chats and your gifts with the rest of the BGG community.

Sadly, I have not heard from my Santa. One year I hope that will change, but for now I continue to focus on enjoying the gift of giving. The joy that I try to share with others is it's own reward!

Happy Holidays,
Santa

So that's what lead me to this geeklist. I hope my Santa realises how much fun this has been for me and how I appreciate the effort they have put in for me, someone they have never met.

I really hope that they hear from their Santa shortly (let's cross our fingers) so if you haven't written to your target - have a go, they might be waiting for you to say hi.

I woke up this morning to find the following note in my inbox from Santa.

Quote:
Dearest Julie,

Upon checking my Naughty/Nice list I find myself in a strange situation. It seems that due to a clerical error, I don't have you on either list.

As you can imagine, this has caused us to do a full check on our Nice-o_meter 3000. This, in turn, has caused an unfortunate delay in this Holiday season.

I hear you asking, "But Santa, whatever does that mean to me?"

Well, Julie, I'm sorry that since I am currently unable to check whether you have been Naughty or nice I have only your letter to me to determine what kind of gift you are deserving of.

After having read your letter, I find myself unclear as to your niceness level. Maybe if you could answer a few quick questions I can get this whole gift delivery process moving forward. (Please answer on your wall below your letter)

1) On a scale of 1-25, how would you rate your Niceness this year? (1 being completely naughty and 25 being saint level of niceness)
2) If you were walking through the park and saw a rabid anteater stuck in a tree, what would you do? Be specific.
3) What are your feelings on Justin Bieber?
4) Did you take any tweens to see Justin Bieber when he was in town in April? If not, would you if asked?
5) How many times have you had "Bring it on" stuck in your head?
6) How many times have you been driven to rage from having "Bring it On" stuck in your head?
7) Who is your favorite My Little Pony?
8) What is your favorite carnivorous plant?
9) Regular or decaf?
10) How excited are you for the new Star Wars?

Thank you for helping me out with this conundrum. Please be aware, prompt reply will help with a prompt gift. Since my elven IT department is telling me that the Nice-o-meter may be down through January anyone not currently on my list will have to wait till next year (you see I have this amazing 10 month scuba trip to Indonesia to catalog all of the Christmas colored fish that live there).

I hope you have an amazing Holiday season, with or without gifts.

Sincerely,
Santa Claus

Of course I immediately set to work answering him.

Quote:
Dearest santa
1) On a scale of 1-25, how would you rate your Niceness this year? I would say this year I was about a 19 for Niceness. I was generally good, but some people are just harder to be nice to.

2) If you were walking through the park and saw a rabid anteater stuck in a tree, what would you do? Be specific.
The rabid anteater should not be let loose on the world, but neither should it be stuck in a tree. I'm not really sure how it got to the tree, but he definitely needs to be let down. I would don my thickest clothing and ready a fenced in area to hold the poor anteater. Then I would climb the tree and bring the anteater down to my holding yard for it. After that I would call the local Zoo, as they are probably the most equipped to deal with anteaters in my area. After the zoo sent someone to retrieve the anteater I would go visit it. Unless they decided they had to put it down, because of the rabies. Then I would be sad for the rabid anteater.

3) What are your feelings on Justin Bieber?
I've been told that he's recently had a return to his mom and Jesus, because they're disappointed in his past behavior. Although even before this news, I really was ambivalent towards him. I enjoy many of his songs, though I don't own any. I mostly use spotify for my music needs.

4) Did you take any tweens to see Justin Bieber when he was in town in April? If not, would you if asked?
I did not. I would have though if any of my friends had wanted to go.

5) How many times have you had "Bring it on" stuck in your head?
Never

6) How many times have you been driven to rage from having "Bring it On" stuck in your head?
I don't recall anything getting stuck in my head and driving me to a rage.

7) Who is your favorite My Little Pony?
Pinkie Pie.

8) What is your favorite carnivorous plant?
The venus fly trap

9) Regular or decaf?
Regular

10) How excited are you for the new Star Wars?
5. I enjoy Star Wars, and love finding random Star Wars memes and gifts for my friends, but don't often do a lot of Star Wars fan girling for myself.

I'm curious as to what anteaters and Justin Bieber have to do with my gift

My Santa sent me a message saying he was a first time Santa, had sent my gifts, and gave me a list. He said they were from the top of my list. But they were listed as Wishlist(5) do not buy. They also had comments saying that I do not need them for one reason out another. Finally my letter stated that level 5s were not to buy.

Hopefully this is a brilliant taunt and I'll open a box up to being a great surprise.

Dear Santa,

Sorry for my silence, I hope you can forgive me.

Those are some tough questions you asked. I hope you find my answers satisfactory.

I like Keyflower so much because its such a great combination of a lot of my favorite mechanisms; auction, tile placement and work placement. It has a lot of interaction between players as well as a lot of meaningful decisions.

My favorite snack is cereal (in general). Its usually the first thing I think of when I'm the snacking mood and I can never stop at one bowl.

The best Christmas gift that I've ever received was the NES back when I was 8. Technically it was for my brothers and I to share, but it started me on a path of gaming.

Its hard for me to think of a worst gift I've specifically received, but I will never forget the deer carcass bag that my wife received in a white elephant exchange. She was less than thrilled.

I can't really speak as to why I deserve presents this year, but I will ask that you consider my friends and family. They will truly be crushed if there is one less new game for them to play this Christmas season. They're the ones I'm asking for games for. If it just so happens that I get to add the game to my collection and enjoying punching all the pieces, then that's just a bonus.

Thank you Santa. You're the best.

My Santa has been giving me riddles to try and solve before I receive my gifts. I figure I'll put them up here for others to see. You can see my progress in solving them in my profile.

Now, I'm not looking for help (that would ruin the fun ), but just to share.

Riddle #1
Let's see how good you are with riddles. As soon as you are done with them - "Your presents are will be on their way".

1st Riddle:

"ADEPRTTT"

Your Santa

Riddle #2
I'm impressed with your mental abilities. You have not solved it (not that was expected whistle), but you have figured the general direction.

Here is the new riddle:

Avg Rating: 7.79 (too low. I would rate it 9)
Fans: 910

Oh wait! It's actually the same riddle from the other angle

Your Santa

Riddle #3
You didn't expect it to be THAT easy.

Yes, the rating I've mentioned earlier was "Average rating". Geek rating would be a bit more than 7.5

More clues will be coming later today. And yes, you may also ask questions, although the answers might be a little vague.

Oh & clues are connected of course. They all refer to the package that is coming your way.

Your Santa.

Riddle #4
The dimensions are:

77.5 x 75 x 17.5 (cm)
4.8 (kg)

note - I've done all measures by myself so I might be few mm off. But should be not more than that.

Your Santa.

Riddle #5
Aha!

Obviously you cannot expect me to confirm(or deny) all 3 of your assumptions. That would be just boring. So I will do just 1, as the other 2 are either obvious or contain spoilers.

Yes, the 1st assumption is correct. Glad you figured it out.

time for the next portion of hints:

http://santafordahlillama.co.nf/

Your Santa!

Riddle #6
Here comes one of the last clues (for some reasons I won't be able to send you more clues starting Fri):

Here are mechanics, used in the remaining part of the present:

Betting/Wagering
Partnerships
Trick-taking
Auction/Bidding
Hand Management
Set Collection
Worker Placement

Your Santa.

Bonus Clue:
This is your chance to earn the extra hint.

Do you know what "lefsa" and "lutifisk" mean?

Your Santa.

Brilliant. Here are some hints I promiced:

1) There are 2 more games in the package. One of them is present on your wishlist, the other is not (although to some extend you should be familiar to that game).

2) Both games have 3 mechanics listed. They have 1 mechanic in common. And I have not send you one of the mechanic because it might make your guessing too easy.

3) All riddles were referring to all games one way or another (Average rating was indeed average. And the total number of fans was indeed total) And so on.

Your Santa.

Riddle #7
Remember, the last one is not on your wish list.

Now one more about your gift as a whole: 657153748624

Your Santa

Riddle #8
Obviously BGG is a living community so Fan & Rating numbers constantly change.

As of now - the average would be 7.887 & the total fans = 912

The key to the last riddle is "FedEx" & that means - there's a big chance you'll get your presents today.

Your Santa (a bit sad, coz the riddletime is over).
