2015 People's Choice Top 100 Solo Games
- Kevin Erskine(kerskine)United States
1-Player Guild created the inaugural 2014 People's Choice Top 100 Solo Games, inspired of course by the Dice Tower's People's Choice list. It was a lot of fun so we decided to do it again.
People submitted up to 20 games ranked from 1-20. #1 gets 20 points, #2=19 ... The only restriction we made was that the game had to be a physical game you enjoyed playing solo. It could be a true solo game, a co-op game, a multi-player game where you played multiple sides, print and play, official and unofficial variants ... You get the idea. Anything except strictly electronic variants like ios solo implementations that allow you to play the game in a way the physical game wouldn't honestly get played solo. (e.g. if they provide an AI).
We had 85 people participate last year, producing a list of 389 games mentioned. This year the number more than doubled to 205 voters and 520 different games. Last year we also combined games in a series, like (D&D: Castle Ravenloft, Wrath of Ashardalon ...). This year every game has to stand on its own. At the end, I'll add an extra entry showing where combined games would have fallen had they been grouped.
The bottom line to all of this is that we wanted to do it simply for the fun of it. Hopefully you find it interesting.
Please check back or subscribe while I update this list all week to count down from 100 down to 1.
I highly encourage people to add comments to games they voted for. I'm sure we'd all like to know what makes it one of your top games.
There were ties along the way. The tie breakers were # of votes, Highest Rank, Most #1 Votes then I just broke the tie and noted it.
When I've shown the whole list, I'll go over some stats on the votes.
One last point. I'd strongly encourage everyone interested in solo gaming to visit and join the 1-player Guild. It's a fantastic group of friendly people, easily one of the most positive group of people I've ever had the pleasure of associating with on the internet.
Last year all it took were 2 votes for a game to make the top 100 (if they were high enough). This year the lowest # of votes to make it was 6.
P.S. I'll release the entire list in a spreadsheet at the end. And if I made mistakes along the way, go back to the initial goal of all of this (to have fun) and forgive me.
Only 46 People who voted last year, voted this year. so 39 didn't vote this year, but we have 159 new voters, which is a good thing.
Of those 46 people, the most common number of games from their entry last year is 17 from a couple of users. The least number in common is 3, but keep in mind if they submitted very few last year, it makes sense that number is low.
Out of the 383 games ranked last year, only 254 of those made someone's list this year. There were 266 new games listed this year that weren't listed last year for a total of 520 different games.
226 games had 1 vote. 6 of them were voted that person's #1 game. 80 had 2 votes, 2 of them were voted #1.
Edit: By request, I added Avg. Vote. (Low is good). This gives you an idea how popular it is by the people who play it.
Edit2: Here is link to Morten's fun Blog Competition about the list. 2015 People's Choice top 100 Solo - who gets the most right?
