Decided to give Odinquest a try. Haven't had a chance to play it yet, but the artwork was so beautiful, I had to print it up. This is a rough copy, because if I like it, I'm going to buy a copy from Todd. I don't usually do solo games, but this one was just too pretty to pass up!

1. Just print 4 A4 sheets. And rules.
2. Take meeples and resources from Keyflower.
3. Take metal button as grazing herd.
4. ???
5. PROFIT

Our 1st play (without player' screens).
Board Game: Species

Half of the play (metal button was taken away by our 3yo son).
Board Game: Species

Impressions:
1. Very thematic: I like very much evolution, adaptations, species interrelations, ecosystems, etc.
2. Relatively long time to set up: 8*20 meeples (cubes, buttons).
3. Difficult to count advantages for every hex for every specie (have to look every time to advantages and analyze).
4. Long time to play (~3 hours for 1st play, including set-up).
5. Slow pace - compare advantages, again compare advantages, oh, again compare. May be its implementation as computer game will be quicker and more interesting.

Nevertheless, we have the rule to play new boardgames twice to test it. So we'll play it again.

My 6yo son likes base LOTR (we have Russian edition by Hobby World) very much, so I suggested him to play F&F expansion. There were no color printer nearby, so I translated and draw (LibreOffice Draw) minimalistic game boards and cards for b/w printer. I also used some icons from TheNounProject.com.

Moving this to 'completed', last night I had thoughts of pasting the chits onto a poptart box to give them more heft (especially the city chits) and I thought that it came out so well that now...I have an extra set of 10d10 lying about.

Also, do reduce my 'problem' of having too many dice (I have 5 sets of 12d6s from Chessex), I put 6 of each color in here (4 for the company colors for the variable company variant and 1 generic for the base game/portfolio rolling). I now have 6 sets of 5 chessex now in a big baggie, probably would use them for 'speed yahtzee' (pretty much, everyone rolls at the same time and then score is taken at once instead of the very long everyone gets to have a turn until all of the categories are filled.)

Made this Brian Train Battle of the Bulge game. You can get a physical copy or the PnP files. I went for the files, as it was a simple build--Map and Counters, not too bad.

Hi all,

I'm new to this scene - have done only a dozen or so simple PnPs, the most ambitious being Pirates & Plunder. I've been lurking for a while and have learned a lot of handy tricks from you guys, so thanks for that!

I thought I'd finally join in by sharing a simple PnP I just built. It's Bomb Squad #9, oneof the entries in the current 9 Card Nanogame Contest. It's a pretty simple build - just nine cards, a few custom tokens, a few player aids and a tuck box. But I think it came out OK.

I tried printing the cards on linen paper, which I've had success with in the past, but which failed abjectly this time (any tips?). So I ended up with plain 80 gsm paper, which I sandwiched around 160 gsm to give 320 gsm cards. The tuck box was the hardest for me cos I didn't have sticker paper, so had to glue it but still allow enough slack for the corner folds. Didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped - will have to track down some sticker paper for next time.

Anyway, here's the end result...

My FLGS was confused by the status his distributors website displayed, and is awaiting a clarification on the availability to our area. In the mean time, I made files today for the cards and boards. I'll be printing and sleeving it tomorrow, so I can try out what looks like a great 2player game.

Ready to play. The tie breaker card is replaced by a wood disk, and assigned randomly during setup. I've never liked the the-white-player-starts-with-the-advantage rules.
From gallery of DadJokes

A closer shot of the cards. The white gap at the top might interfere with readability in-game. I might reformat these to better fit the sleeves.
From gallery of DadJokes

The colored pawns I chose. Action cards are in matching sleeves.

Simple build of a really elegant looking game. Can't wait to play!

This update marks a milestone that I never thought I would achieve, I now have more print&play games (188), than regular board games (183), on the geeklist there are 190 but two of them are considered Expansions by the BGG. Only 10 left to get the microbadge of 200.

So this last couple of days I did:

- K2 + Broad Peak + Avalanche

I only printed the required material to play solo, and only 1 scenario from broad peak (the solo able one), and the mini expansion Avalanche.
The weather tokens are a little smaller than I wanted but they do the job. I only need some meeples and cubes and I'm good to go.

Made some more smaller projects:

- Dead Drop
- diZe
- Rat Hot
- Snowball Fight
- Space Gunman
- Spurs and Sprockets
- The Architect
- Qwirkle

Then printed some rulebooks to add to my boards or play with components from other games:

- Assembly Line
- Cubeo
- Babylon
- Haggis
- Lines of Action
- Neutron
- Stac

A small expansion that I was missing:

- Do not Forsake me - Expansion 1

I printed the board onto 160gsm card, laminated and rounded the corners (5mm radius).
Finding Eurocubes a bit dull for this I quickly made up the raven and player-tokens shown. I double-sided the prints onto grey board (purely for effect, as part of a sheet of counters for three projects.

I'd built a playtest copy for Europe Divided. No game page yet, just a forum thread...: Europe Divided: the Post-Cold War Battle for Influence over Europe

Think Twilight Struggle in Eastern Europe after the events of 1989/1990 including a glimpse into the future. Contrary to TS though, the 'Western' player will need to juggle two factions, the EU and NATO.

I didn't bother with the player screens because I can't print on cardboard at home. I'll find replacements.
The rules also suggest to use a bucket of d6 in three colors to track influence. For starters I'll use TS or 1989 influence markers instead, even though I like the concept of using dice - influence is capped at 6 in this game...

An opposed ftf playtest is scheduled in early April...

March was a really, really busy month for me, so I have mostly restrained my PnP efforts to lazy print games to add to my ever-growing "Big Book of (Mostly-Solo) Dry Erase Madness," which features titles requiring only a few cards, dice, and/or a marker. I want to eventually add a dice tray and tuck boxes to the back of the related binder for utility.

That said, GAMES:

Simple, but beautiful build. Todd literally packed the game and rules into a single double-sided page and a deck of standard playing cards.

Simple build, extremely difficult game. With both this title and the original Utopia Engine, I think the solitaire experience is really heightened with a good soundtrack and an indulgence of homemade narrative role playing.

At first, this game presented a challenge to make since I don't have easy access to a legal printer (11" x 17"). However, someone pointed out that Adobe can simply print files "as poster" and effectively split the file down the middle. I may fiddle with the margins a bit more, but this works perfectly.

This was a fun little build. I know that Jake himself prefers a template to print cards double-sided on a single page and spray-adhere card core between a fold down the middle... but I have a crap-ton of cheap sleeves so I plan to use them up!

I printed the cards on standard paper, sleeved them around old playing cards, and cut many of the smaller ones to size with a single sweep of the rotary cutter. Chits are not pictured, but are spray-adhered to chipboard and cut to size. I must say, from a graphic design perspective, the newspaper art style on these cards may be one of my favorites in all of the PnP games I've seen. I think it's fantastic. Very, very clever.

Printed out the PnP for this game (which I downloaded when the kickstarter was running). It's 11 pages of full-colour art, so it's not for the feign of heart (or ink).

As I'm still without any decent cardstock to print on, I just printed on standard paper and sleeves with playing card backs. Alas, I ran out of the right sized sleeves about 110 cards through the 120 total, and ran out of the same playing card backs 56 cards in (only had one deck - I knew that would happen, so I've backed half the cards in one backing design and half in another. Reminder to self: Order some solid-back-coloured sleeves!). But managed to squeeze the remaining cards into slightly-smaller sleeves in the end.

Just need to decide what to use for the money. I think Citadels gold would work perfectly here, so may raid that box...

Photo to come.

Not really a print-n-play game, but it did involve all the usual steps! Something possessed me to do a video tutorial on making PnP cards - particularly focussing on the folded-sheet method that I prefer for high-quality cards. It's something I've been meaning to try for a while, I've previously bought a tripod mount for my phone so I can take decent, stable footage and a cheap lavalier mic so my voice is actually audible in the video, but I figured a four-day weekend was a good opportunity to give it a go. So I spend half my Easter weekend shooting video and messing around with video editing software.

That's a lie. I spent a tiny fraction of my Easter weekend shooting video and nearly all of the rest of it swearing at Adobe Premiere. It repeatedly crashes within a minute of opening it, each time making me more and more angry at myself for having wasted money on it. I fell back to Windows Movie Maker for a while, which is surprisingly capable so long as you don't want fancy features like colour correction... but I do! So I've not completed editing on the entire 30-minute card-making tutorial video, yet.

In the meantime, though - just to make sure I was happy with the whole process end-to-end, I've finished off a short extract tip video on using a rotary cutter - since it's something that I've seen a lot of people complaining they can't get right, and it's much easier to explain visually than it is in text.

I need to work on the camera positioning - it could have done with being rotated left and up a little so the action is nearer the centre of the screen, and could probably have been zoomed in more. It's a bit late for all the card-making footage, but if this all turns out well I plan to follow up with videos on making boards, tokens, boxes etc. - so any suggestions or criticism would be gratefully received!

Trying out a game from the One Page PNP contest. Looks like a neat little dice puzzler. Just doing a paper version to see if I want to make my own art. Very easy build.

I just put together this quick version of Geschenkt (the gift is still too expensive), using poker chips and a draw bag instead of cards.

From gallery of Random Order

I omitted the 10,20,& 30 and added two "n" wildcards.

Almost all of the bits are from previous thrift store bargain finds (the chips, gems, & stickers).
