This weeks discussion focuses on the unplayed games in your collection! What % of games in your collection are unplayed? Why do you think some of these games are unplayed? Are there a couple of unplayed games that are you are chompin' at the bit to get played? Hopefully this discussion will get some of these unplayed games played!

If you had to guess, what percentage of your collection is unplayed? Is there a point in which it was much higher?

Why have some of these games remained unplayed? Do you find that you lose interest in a game the longer it sits on your shelf?

_10_ Star Wars: Rebellion x1

On Tap:
N/A

Acquisitions:
Prime Time
Drakon (fourth edition)
My Happy Farm

Wishlist:
Thunder & Lightning

Only got in another game of Star Wars: Rebellion in this week. I had a chance to play the Rebels this time, and wow, I was super nervous the whole time. We played a 3 player game, with both other players playing as the Imperials. I hid my base pretty well, as the Imperial players were not even able to locate it until their final turn, and by then, I had it well defended, and they were much too far away. I am loving this game, and while it can take awhile to play (both games have taken around 4 hours to play), I am kind of hoping I can sneak in ~10 plays of it this year heh.

Picked up a few new games this week. Prime Time hasn't gotten great reviews, but the theme alone has me wanting to give it a try (and I acquired it used). Have always wanted to try some incarnation of Drakon (fourth edition), so when I was able to pick up a used copy of the latest version in an auction pretty cheap, I jumped on it. Even though My Happy Farm in an older game, I like to give anything Portal pushes out a go, so I picked up a used copy of it as well (the latest printing).

I might have to pick up a copy of Thunder & Lightning since it has been getting a good amount of buzz as a 2p game. The theme looks neat, and I have not played the original game that it is based off, but hearing this one is much better.

Going to be another light gaming week for me. Busy week at work, and redoing our master bedroom closet, so need to finish that this weekend.

1 x _7_Burgle Bros. (new!)
1 x _6_Carcassonne: Star Wars (new!)

I made an impulse purchase and got Burgle Bros. That was a good decision, as my son already thinks it's the best co-op game ever. He really, really likes it.

I think it's fine; it's a bit vanilla, but works pretty well, the theme is funny, the art looks good and the box is nice and compact. It was also fairly cheap, even with shipping, so no complaints there.

Carcassonne: Star Wars isn't particularly good as a Carcassonne game or a Star Wars game. The Force is not strong in this one.

My favorite 18xx game for six players is two games of 1846 with three players each.

10   Lost Cities x2 -- I got little play in the past few weeks as I dealt with some medical issues, but I did manage to play two games of this mutual favorite with my wife.

I'm also following posts from the Gathering, which we weren't able to attend this year because of my situation.

1x RoboRally

My youngest was playing around with the Microsoft / Minecraft Hour of Code puzzles. There's also a science museum kind-of thing here that's more geared toward physics for kids, where she likes playing with these programmable robots called "Bee Bots". You plug in a list of commands and then the bee tries to navigate a maze.

I thought, "Hey. This all looks a lot like Robo Rally." So we played it over the weekend. I had to preface this with many reminders about how this is a fun, silly game and having your robot destroyed is the fun part.

She drove her robot off the board on the first turn. Silly conveyor belts. By the end of the game, she did manage to hit a checkpoint and blast her sister's robot several times.

8x Go

More playing and studying on my month off between league seasons. KGS isn't kidding about the "?" in my rank, as it now has me ranked "1d?". I'd say that's off by a good six ranks. I've been playing mainly private games on KGS the last several months, so when I beat a 2k in an even game over the weekend, it sent the rating system into short-circuit mode.

New to Me:

d10-7 Mangrovia

Return Visits:

d10-6 Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Skull & Shackles – Base Set x2
d10-8 Antiquity
d10-8 Paradox
d10-8 The Hanging Gardens

Musings:

Mangrovia isn't earth-shattering but is quite an enjoyable worker placement game where one claims two actions with one worker and acquires or spends several different currencies to claim spaces on the board for majorities/runner up. Colorful as expected from Zoch and more game than usual!

Antiquity was played with two others new to the game. I probably should try to get this played more often so I can learn from my previous games! I still won but it may have been tainted in that I apparently put the fear of god into my opponents when explaining how famine increases for each non-luxury good found via exploring.

Paradox continues to be interesting. Although a second play doesn't count for this week, there was another play on Sunday with just the basic game and I must say I prefer the added research scoring to make scoring more dynamic.

My group is close to finishing Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Skull & Shackles – Base Set full campaign - just another 2-3 games. Hopefully, we finish next week. Was unable to play last night due to two people missing so we played Star Wars: Rebellion instead with 3 people. I think I prefer that game with either 2 or 4...and it is definitely best as a 2 player game. Brad and I maintained two very different philosophies as the Empire and almost allowed Lance to pull out a Rebel victory...but more on that next week.

Acquisitions:

Star Wars: Rebellion

 10.   Kanban: Automotive Revolution x2

Continue to play online at Boitejeaux in the beta phase and continue to enjoy it...may not be doing particularly well, but it is one of my favorite games.

 8.0   Suburbia

Played on the iPad with my son (and against two AI, one of whom was very stupid and had no points 2/3 of the way through the game...). He continues to beat me at this one...sigh. Thought I had him this time, but my PR Firm wasn't quite enough.

 7.5   Factory Funner

Online play (solitaire).

 7.0   Police Precinct

Caleb and I have been testing this and so he wanted to try some of the expansions that I had gotten but we'd never played with. We really liked the equipment and specialists, although we would definitely need to play it at an increased difficulty level in the future when using this. We should also probably start trying some different characters...we've each found one that we like and we can generally play fairly well with them...but if we change up our characters, our game often goes downhill quickly

PnP front:

(1) Close to finishing off a pnp build of Heiko's redesign for Container. I'm not convinced it's one that will ultimately be a keeper for me, but I would like to play it and find out

(2) Almost finished with Fog of Love as well...looking forward to giving this two player "experience" a try...very different from what I usually play.

On Saturday, Anni and I took a trip to Andrew Parks's house to playtest his new game.

_?_ Unpublished Prototype - Unfortunately, I don't have permission to discuss it.

_7_ Above and Below - After the playtest session, we had some free time, so Anni taught Above and Below to Andy. I was the start player, and noticing that the points-per-villager building was available, I started by grabbing the building that lets me recruit villagers to the active area. After grabbing a villager that let me buy villagers for -1, I thought I was all-in on the villager strategy. Unfortunately, beds were a bit hard to come by, so I ended up prioritizing taking a money to get the barrel every turn. My first adventure yielded some pretty nice results, but I had to wound two villagers to succeed. I grabbed a goods building with a potion on it to bring one of them back, but the other ended up staying in the hospital for most of the game. As the game progressed, I found myself quickly advancing up the goods track, and got thrown for a loop when Andy sold me a crystal toward the end of the game. Surely the crystal was worth $4, but it threw my math off for getting the end-game building that gave points for villagers (by that point I had 6 villagers). So I made a quick call and decided to forgo end-game buildings and instead just get more paper, which I was stacking on a 5-point slot. I ended up with 4 paper for 20 points, and the most total points I've ever gotten for goods in the game. Unfortunately, I didn't have many points elsewise, and Andy got two end-game buildings and was able to edge me out at the end.
