Hi BGG community,

I'm looking for help finding some games to play with my very bro-ey mates who love negotiating, in any game we play. I mean in these guys cut deals for trains Ticket to Ride, they even offer trains to other players to keep their routes free. They trade money an Glory cards in Merchants & Marauders to not get attacked etc...
Now although this very funny and makes for some very interesting games I thought it might be nice to get some games where this is actually the focus.

Conditions:

1. must be playable at 4 and 6 player counts
2. not too long
3. Not too mean or direct player conflict (Game of thrones for instance sank hard on the second play)
4. not to heavy as they won't play (heaviest game for them is Steampunk Rally, and you guessed it they trade cogs and dice)

So here are some of my Ideas PLEASE ADD SOME AND WITH REASONS

Thanks

Mick

I know this should be the obvious one, buuuuuut

1. In Australia to play 6 player its about $130 with the expansion
2. My first play was 3 and 1/2 hrs!!
3. The guy I played with (who taught meyuk) on my first play put me in a position that meant I went from winning to not being able expand in any way and just sitting at a table for 2hrs waiting for him to get enough cards to win, while nobody traded with anyone because he had been such a D#@k!

I'm keeping my eyes open for a second hand copy for cheap

Not sure about this as I've only seen a review. Looks good buuuuuut...

1. only up to 5 players
2. Worried it might be to heavy (need a second opinion)

I'll try to get it as I reckon 2 people can team up

It's all about making deals. Takes about an hour (just use a 5 minute timer every round). Not too mean, but only plays up to 5 (it's probably best with 5).

Not too heavy either. Can be explained in 5-10 minutes.

Another great negotiation game that plays up to 5. This one is similar to Chinatown, but no tile placement. Ruthless!

edit - This one has few components and plays pretty quickly.

This is a solid negotiation game that plays up to 6. Pretty easy to find an affordable copy. And it comes with a wooden gavel to lay down the law!

I dont' have this, but it was the first game I thought of based on your description. It is all about deals, trades, negotiations. Would seem to be right up your alley. Plays up to 5, so I'm not sure if that qualifies for your list. Game length is about right.

Catan was the second game I thought of. This was the third. This one handles 4-6. VERY negotiation heavy. Every game is different due to all the alien combinations. This game depends on the group type, so it can be hit or miss. If they're open to the theme I'd say go for it. If you're not sure then you might want to find a way to try it first.

There's a bunch of live play throughs on the Dicetower's youtube channel if you want to get a better feel for whether it's a good fit for you. You'll find live play throughs of Sheriff of Nottingham as well. I think they're mostly in the 24hour marathons.

It's all about trading and works up to 7 players. 4 to 6 is pretty much the sweet spot.

This seems to be exactly what you are looking for. It only plays to 4 without the expansion, but plays up to 6 with it. There is a ton of negotiation to be had, you can trade pretty much everything in this game.

Plays best with 6 players. There are lots of opportunities for negotiation and alliances. Recommended if you like the Herbert novels.

A pure negotiation games. People have to wheel and deal to get their senators to advance to more prestigious ranks. It only supports 3-5 players, though.

Negotiating is an essential part of this game. It's not the only thing here (Each player gets a set of Special Powers - and usually someone will complain at the end of the game that someone else's powers are better than theirs. But the evidence of my plays is that the "overpowered" powers change each game: they're much more an artifact of some momentary groupthink than anything inherently unbalanced.) but, equally, the poorest negotiator will nearly certainly lose.

For your purposes, it only plays with 4.

This one should fit the criteria. Plays 3-6. It's all about the negotiation. Limited amount of time for negotiation guarantees the tension as well as that it should not be long.
