The penultimate one cry and the last one I'm going to be able to get to cry

Many thanks to Rich for this one, and all the others.

I have wanted to play this one for ages. It's an area control / wargame, with both loyalists and rebels competing to control colonies (plus bits of Canada). Both sides have militia (ok at killing others, but vulnerable to running away) and regular troops (better at fighting and the Brits don't ever run), plus more or less reliable allies in natives, plus Hessians and French.

Lots of options each turn and plenty of swings of fortune mean you don't really mind that a big part of the result is luck.

I've played some more conventional American Revolution games (there are at least three board wargames) and this is certainly the most fun.

You have thirty hexagonal building tiles with various building costs. Some give you their developments for free: build one road, for example, and you can build another road next to it for free, and similarly if you build a port, you can have the three ships next to it for free. Otherwise, you pay with resources that come from the board - if not previously built on - or cards. As tiles get used, the board is expanded.

Victory goes to the player who either builds all of their tiles or joins any two of four special tiles with an unbroken line of their tiles.

The city building theme is lightly pasted on (there's nothing stopping you building ships in the middle of the land) but it's an interesting game with few rules.

Very tight between the two leaders: I won by doing the connection, but we soon worked out that I should have been stopped by a nasty board expansion.

If you ever play it, the game desperately needs something to mark what you've already built or you'll be going 'have I built the market already?' a lot. (Or at least I was...)

Delighted to play this again after coming across it a couple of FANGcons ago.

One of the new players won on a tie-break...

Simultaneous card selection game where you're picking a location to gain cards that represent Troupes of actors. You're trying to put on a play that matches the Kings changing mood: Comedy or Tragedy

Very good and great looking with a big cardboard stage.

5 players, hadn't played for ages (Although I'd only ever played Avalon) and enjoyed it again.

Myself and Charlotte controlled the game as the bad guys and won. Richard, Owen, Kevin also played.

Played with Steve, Cat, and John.

Using the Forsaken Lore and Strange Remnants expansions.

Four players vs big ol' Cthulhu himself.

What a brilliant time we had. Great fun, constantly engaged, exciting and funny. The key was always to read the encounters to each other so we all get to share the idiotic and random stuff that happens.

Poor Steve died three times, always being sucker punched by fate. Interestingly you could clearly feel there difference when playing Cthulhu as all the sea spaces became very dangerous.

The game came down to the last Mythos card, and we needed to add four Eldritch tokens to the third mystery card to win. Three were placed there by the other brave heroes (not me - boo!), so it came down to John to kill a Deep One and spend a Clue to place the vital fourth token and we'd win. Fail and the last Mythos card would trigger and we'd lose.
John survived the sanity check and only had to kill the Deep One using 9 combat dice BUT he was Cursed so he needed to roll 2 sixes using 9 dice.
He failed!
goo

Lovely how the game came down to the wire!

Did I mention I love this game!?!?
