I Kickstarted this game after asking my RPG group if they would be willing to play it - they all agreed, and so I backed it, and it was one of the better choices I have made! Not only did that group enjoy the game (enough that one of them bought it) two of our other RPG groups also fell in love with it (and one of them bought it too!)

It is one of my husband's favorite games, so it is guaranteed to get lots of plays.

You can also see my progress tracked here.

The game arrived! And I worked hard to quickly assemble the minis so that we could get going and play a game!

We went with the very first mission in the book, A Fistful of Darkstone.

My husband and I each ran two characters.

He created Wally the Outlaw and Sally the Saloon Girl. I played Tanner Mirabel a Gunslinger, and Rosa Sharon White a Rancher.

We certainly got some of the rules wrong, but we had a fun time, though we definitely had some bad luck trying to find the clue tokens!

Bold with our success, we decided to run a second mission, after heading to town.

We decided to play the second basic mission in the book, however, we totally got the rules wrong (clues mean one less door) and ended up with a slog of a game which lasted far too long and wasn't any fun... since we kept finding rooms that weren't dead ends! Definitely were grumpy after this play, but once we realized it was an issue with us reading the rules, we felt a little better. Also, we lost, and 1 random building was destroyed in town...

We invited several friends over to play with us. Our friend F. created a Bandido named Juanito, who nicely complimented my husband's character Wally the Outlaw and A. created a U.S. Marshal named Marshal and then promptly mapped out an upgrade chart for her character on the back of the character sheet. I created a preacher named Ezekiel McTavish.

Since they had never played before, and darkstone is always handy, we ran A Fistful of Darkstone again. Turns out that Marshall is really handy with a gun. Her character was amazing successful at wracking up the kills! But the most amazing part were the gear and artifacts Wally and Juanito drew from the deck! They got some great guns, and found a Tomb Chest... it was really impressive!

The previous adventure went so well, we decided to push on and run a second one with the same characters. This time we let them choose the adventure, running one of the City of the Ancients missions, and not a basic mission. With that Marshal we succeeded yet again - she was rolling really well!

We invited our friend, who was also at the time our neighbor, down for a game. She created Darla the Saloon Girl, so my husband played Wally his Outlaw to play. I decided to play with Rosa Sharon White my Rancher again. We chose a fairly simple mission and ran through it. It was a lot of fun, and while she isn't as much of a game as we are, she didn't mind the game. We also had her character roll for darkness, which ended up being a smart move.

Our first board game of the year, and it was a good choice! We really love playing Shadows of Brimstone, as do all our friends, which is awesome! We now have three different groups of people we alternate playing with.

This game we decided to venture into the Targa Plateau, after all, it is winter here (but you'd never know it because there is no snow.) So a little snowy wilderness was on the menu.

It was a game with just my husband and I, so we were each playing two characters.

I was playing Tanner Mirabel, my Gunslinger, and Lawrence Pierce, a U.S. Marshall I started for that game. My husband was playing Wally, the Outlaw, and his Saloon Girl, Sally.

While in Targa, Tanner picked up some awesome armor that is powered by Darkstone. Which means he can always get rid of his extra Darkstone by activating the armor (if he doesn't want to get any mutations.) I should have been playing my Ranger, since she had a task from the Town Doctor to collect "specimens" from Targa and bring them back... but I hadn't played Tanner in a while. From the adventure, he is now Level 2 and can use Ricochet Bullets in his gun. Lawrence was mostly just along for the ride - but at least he got a good amount of XP. Next time he might get to Level 2.

Wally didn't level, but he did find the Judge Pistol. My husband loves that gun! He also found two runes - one is +1 against void and one is +1 against demons, so he upgraded his Outlaw Pistol twice to add those runes. Now he is virtually unstoppable against enemies! And my husband now has a favorite character. He really like Wally now.

This was our first play of Swamps and WOW were we swamped! It was a good thing another player showed up partway through the game or we would have never made it out alive!

The game had a LOT of ambush attacks. Hell, we had ambush attacks in our ambush attacks! The very first time we stepped through a gate into the swamps, we were ambushed. While in that attack, we were ambushed again... and again! Damn. But we sure did get a lot of loot and leveling from all that!

Also, the guy with the lantern rolled an awful lot of doubles... shake

During the course of the game we got: double sixes once (the only good type of doubles!) Double ones twice, and double fours three times. Six sets of doubles, five of which were awful. Blarg. That was definitely the some of the harshest rolling we've had so far for Darkness.

Oh, I should mention, Ezekiel McTavish, my Preacher, mutated three times in the game. He now has Tentacle Fingers (aesthetic only) a Tentacle Tail, and is Fused with Rock, which gives him natural armor and makes him move even slower. He also now carries a Hellfire Pistol. So my Preacher is totally bad-ass. I can't wait to play with him again!

Oh, and my husband was playing Wally again, and managed to get him to Level 3. That character is turning into a real powerhouse!

So, we had a board game party at a friend's house, and this was the game we opened with, since it would take the longest to play. We were playing with three other people who had not played before.

While I remembered to bring all the minis from the other box... I forgot their large character cards - but I did bring character sheets, so my husband and I ended up playing characters we had used before, while the other players started new characters. This was both good and bad.

Good because the adventure we were playing needed higher level characters at the end. Bad because the player playing the Bandido constantly compared his character to my husband's character Wally, the Outlaw. Wally, at Level 3, really didn't compare. So next time if we play with new people, we won't be doing that again...

I was playing Tanner Mirabel again, mainly because he wasn't vastly overpowered, and because I wanted to show them how the special bullets worked. Also, he had previous picked up an Axe - which he was able to trade to Sue the Saloon Girl. Which was great! She really needed an awesome melee weapon, and Tanner sucks at melee.

So, we played "Blow the Mine!" and we had a string of rotten luck at the beginning: we kept rolling below a 4 so we didn't find any dead-end rooms until much later. We had NO fights, only encounter cards until we found the first dead-end room. So then it was a massive fight! But by that time we were almost out of time on the darkness track. We won that fight (thanks to Wally) and ran back to the other passage to get a dead-end room. Luckily we found it! Which triggered another big fight, and the Bandido character went down.

We were truly feeling screwed at this point, so we did the special rule of: As long as someone was on the Mine Exit map tile, if you fail at a darkness roll, you get an Epic Threat instead. And oh, did we get an Epic Threat!

The Saloon Girl and the U.S. Marshal held off the Epic Threat (Goliath!) while Tanner and Wally killed all the monsters and rescued the Bandido. We placed the explosives, then ran back to the entrance. Wally killed the Goliath, the Marshal and Saloon Girl moved up to form a roadblock, allowing the rest of us to step into the room and "win" the adventure by blowing the mine.

But we never did kill all those monsters in the final fight... that was the first time that had happened. And it was the first time we had Elite monsters - and lots of them!

Overall, the players who had the Saloon Girl and the U.S. Marshal had a great time! The player with the Bandit was bored and felt by the time the turn rolled around to him, he had nothing to do. Guess I should have played my Preacher so I would have gone last...

Anyway, they all did think the game was interesting was were willing to play again. Though the guy who played the Bandido will never play that character type again.

We were playing the "Cursed Idol" adventure, and wow, was it tough! Made even more tough by some very poor rolls to hold back the darkness. Very poor.

There were four of us:

I was playing Rosa Sharon White, my rancher. And for the first time ever, she got to use the max range of her rifle! Things were getting pretty desperate as we searched for the burial grounds (which was needed for the adventure) and yes, it ended up being the LAST swamp map tile we found. Anyway, because of that, our party of four characters literally split up into four directions to search the max number of places (we were desperate at that point.) And when we found the Burial Grounds and triggered the end battle, Rosa was really far away - but with her range of 12 hunting rifle still managed to take out some zombies.

My husband was not playing Wally, he beloved Outlaw (though there were a few times he regretted not having the Judge - his awesome gun.) Instead, he was playing Scooter, his Indian Scout (don't ask about the name.)

Our friend A. was playing Darla, the Saloon Girl.

And our friend S. was playing for the first time, so he created a new Lawman character. The rest of us were at level 2, some of us closer to leveling than others - only Darla managed to level this game. Scooter is fairly close, the Lawman is really close, and Rosa has about 400 more XP to go.

The game, while fun, was definitely against us! Sure, we found a portal to the swamps soon enough, but everything seemed to go wrong in the swamps! Darkness advanced relentlessly.

In a stunning bit of luck near the end, Scooter not only found the grave where we needed to place the idol on his first try - he rolled one die and it ended up being a 6! Which was what we needed to bury the idol! Of course, by then it was too late to save our rolls against Darkness, but damn, that was dramatic!

Even though Darkness escaped the Mines and decimated the town, we fought on until all the enemies were dead, it was just more dramatic that way. We took our loot from the battle, but the town was destroyed by Darkness (as a special of this particular adventure, it was totally destroyed - not a single building is open for business.)

Sure, we can't go back to town, but half the time we go straight from one adventure to the next, so no loss there.

Rosa did gain one mutation from all her Darkstone - she has now also Fused with Stone, so -2 move, Armor +4 - and with her rifle's range, being slow isn't a big issue - she'll still get part of the action.

Darla got it the worst - she got two mutations - both to her hands - which makes it impossible for her to wear gloves (and she found gloves this adventure!) or fire a gun. She really wants them removed, but with town closed... all she can do is wait.

Sadly, when in the Otherworld, Rosa was not able to get a specimen for the Town Doctor... perhaps next time.

We were playing the "Blow the Boiler Room" adventure in the Targa Plateau.

I was playing Ezekiel, my very mutated preacher. I wanted him to level up, and he got just enough XP to do so!

My husband was playing Wally the Outlaw, his favorite character.

Our friend F. was playing his Bandido named Juanito, and A. was playing her Marshall. A. arrived late (but in time for the final fight!)

So, we decided to have a full town adventure before heading into the Plateau. It turned out well. While Ezekiel was still mutated to all hell (the Doctor couldn't help) we did pick up lots of tonic, whiskey and dynamite. We were pretty lucky with the town events too. Which should have been foreshadowing to how terrible our Darkness rolls would be.

Honestly, I should never let my husband roll for Darkness. shake

Anyway, we entered the Plateau. Now, we got lucky with our first room. It contained a clue! And we had a pretty sweet Encounter that allowed us to swap out the next Encounter Token we drew.

Then we had a hallway, and for this adventure, that means that a Pylon popped out of the floor and fought us! However, it was just one, and we took it out in a single turn. Ezekiel got to use his Hell Pistol, and rolled two crits! It was glorious!

So, the next room had an Ambush Attack Encounter Token... we decided to swap that out, which was a good choice, but it still wasn't the second clue we needed. However, there were two other exits out of the room, so we split the party to explore both.

Because by this time, we had failed enough darkness rolls so that Darkness was already halfway out towards the exit and the sirens for the boiler room exploding were going to start giving us sanity damage. Ouch!

Well, luckily, the next room we found had a clue token! The Boiler Room was revealed! Trigger the Final Battle!

And that was when A. showed up and her Marshall joined the fight.

We were all transported to the Boiler Room, where two Elite Night Terrors and all the void spiders were waiting for us.

Oh, and Darkness and Growing Dread were revealed. The Darkness wasn't bad... but OUCH! Our three Growing Dread cards sucked. Luckily we succeeded most of our rolls, so it ended up being not that bad.

Now, for the fight, dynamite reigned supreme. Juanito the Bandido, Wally the Outlaw and the Marshall all threw dynamite into the room. All the spiders were killed that way, and both Night Terrors were down to a mere 2 health left.

Ezekiel opted not to throw dynamite (his ranged attacks are awful!) and went instead with his Hell Pistol, but this time he failed.

Sadly, the Elite upgrade of the Night Terrors was healing... so they each healed two points.

However, the Marshall got to go before them, and he killed them both with his shotgun.

We each got three loot from the fight - which means I basically got back all the Darkstone I sold at the start of the adventure! Bah! And I got more gold.

Then we raced over to the boiler to turn it off. Wally was already over there, having moved through the monsters during the fight to flank them. He rolled cunning and succeeded. Then Juanito moved over and used his prodigious strength to turn one off. Then Ezekiel, spending a Grit to move extra (on account of him having mutations that make him slow) moved over and using his great cunning managed to turn off the final one.

And like that, the adventure was done, and we succeeded!

We all gained an artifact from the Targa Plateau. Ezekiel got a Trun Disintegrator. He can't use if (being a Priest that doesn't use guns, and because he isn't strong enough) so he handed it off to Juanito. He also gave Juanito three darkstone to put in his tomb chest.

Notes of interest: Juanito has a tail with a mouth mutation. Every time a person next to him rolls a 1 in combat, the mouth bites them. This worked in our favor MANY times. With the Pylon, with the spiders, and with the Night Terrors. It was awesome. Mainly because we rolled well enough so that we weren't attacked!

The adventure was over way faster than we expected, mainly because of how lucky we were with the clues. That Encounter card that allowed us to pick a new Encounter Token was awesome!

Now, we didn't get a lot of XP this adventure (due to having no real fights other than the final battle, and since we used dynamite we gain no XP from each kill done that way.) But Ezekiel is now level 3! He gained +1 move, which counters all my mutations, so I'm back at 0 added to my move, and he gained a new Judgement Sermon, Shockwave - which will be AWESOME once I'm level 4! So I guess I'll have to play more! Good thing we have another game day with these same characters planned for this Saturday!

After the adventure we went back to town for another two days. We bought some gear, Ezekiel picked up a Tomb Chest (and this time the Doctor did remove one of his mutations). Don't worry, Ezekiel still has his skin fused with stone and his tentacle tail, but I got rid of the tentacle fingers, just in case I roll them again next time I mutate. I really don't want Ezekiel to die.

We played the "Seal the Hell Pit" adventure.

I was playing Rosa Sharon White, my rancher. My husband was playing Sally, his Saloon girl. And our friends F. and A. were playing, respectively, Jaunito the Bandido and Marshal the U.S. Marshal.

We started by having a true town encounter, rolling for the days and all that. It went well. We stocked up on tonic and healing herbs, got mutations healed, and in general had nothing but good things happen. We even rolled so well we didn't have a town even at the end of day 1.

Then we headed into the mines for the adventure. Now, this was one of the adventures with a set map. Mainly because we finally had a table large enough to play a set map scenario. It was impressively large.

Like usual, I was rolling terribly for Rosa. My gods, she couldn't hit the board-side of a barn! But we handily won this adventure, and she managed to level up! Yay! She gained the ability that gives her +1 shot with two-handed guns, so I won't be rolling just on die anymore! Yes! And she added a Darkstone hilt to her Hunting Rifle, so she now rolls 3 dice for that gun. Success!

Part of the reason we handily won this adventure is that the Marshal was rolling really well for the darkness rolls, and we found the Hell Pit on the first try. It was in the first room we searched. So that made things super easy.

A. was a little disappointed, since she really wanted to level up her Marshal. She was, however, thrilled that he got a tentacle mustache as her mutation!

After the adventure we went back to town and had another town event. Again, it was nothing but good, and we healed mutations and bought upgrades (like the Darkstone hilt Rosa added to her gun!)

We played the Temple of Dread adventure - chosen because if we win, we had a high percent of rolling to get artifacts! Yes!

Continuing with the same characters, I was still playing Rosa Sharon White my rancher, since I wanted to test her new combat abilities. My husband was playing Sally the Saloon Girl. Our friends A. and F. were playing, respectively: Marshal the U.S. Marshal and Juanito the Bandido.

We decided the last adventure was so easy, that we would try it with Brutal enemies, since we were all level 3 characters now. And it was challenging, but not impossible. We still managed to make our way through and kill things! Lots of things!

We were also playing the advanced version of the game where certain rooms triggered their special encounter before we drew an encounter card. It was a lot of fun, and we will probably always play it that way in the future - so you are guaranteed an encounter in pretty much every room.

So, this adventure starts in the mines, but the bulk of it takes place in the Swamps. Ambush attacks were the norm. The first portal is even on the board, so we raced for it, to get into the other world.

To win this adventure, we had to find and explore the Temple of Dread, and after finding it, kill all the creatures guarding it! Which meant finding clues. We were lucky, and found one clue immediately.

Of course, because we had more encounters, we had some pretty bad ones - lots of encounters that would harm us if we ended in a certain room. But we could take it.

When we finally found the temple, and it took a bit of searching, the penultimate room had the worst card on it! We could only move at 1/2 speed! So it took two points of movement to move one space. It was brutal, and like swimming through molasses. Ugh. But we slogged through it. And finally stepped into the temple - though we had two ambush attacks (thanks to the Darkness!) before we even set foot on the temple.

The final battle was not bad, and we managed to make it through - no super special enemies showed up - it was just tentacles and hellbats and Slashers. I was having a lot of fun with Rosa, for now she could fight! Amazing what getting another die (or two) could do!

And then we got treasure! Well, all but the Marshal, his roll failed. Which was a shame, but he was really close to making it to level 4, so we didn't feel so bad. He is also Fused with Darkstone, but didn't have any Darkstone that wasn't in a Tomb Chest... so he fused with a Darkstone Item - the power armor he had picked up a few games ago from the Targa Plateau! Which he was perfectly OK with. And honestly, he didn't need another artifact... he had plenty!

We returned to town to celebrate our win. Rosa had collected a specimen from the other realm, so she went to the doctor to sell it. She also got injured and could no longer roll critical hits, so she needed that healed too. (She got healed, and got a nice scar that gave her +2 permanent health! Not bad!)

But, we were going around to the various stores, buying what we needed, when something terrible happened.

Sally went into the Saloon to make some money... and she was shot in an assassination attempt. She died. It was a real, true death. Sure, we could bring her back and resurrect her at the church, but she would be -1 Max Grit forever. So my husband decided to let her die. If he ever wants her in the future, we can bring her back... but that is doubtful. He prefers Wally anyway.

Sally's death was rather sudden, tragic, and cast a bit of a pall over the excitement of the game. (And made him frustrated, since when traveling to town we lost our grit, so he had no grit for a re-roll - and thus, no chance of avoiding death.)

We played the Frozen Expedition adventure, because we like to alternate between the Targa Plateau and the Swamps.

This time, I was playing Tanner Mirabel, my gunslinger, because I wanted to see if I could level him up. My husband, after the loss of Sally, decided to play Scooter his Indian Scout (clearly raised by hick white folk.) Our friends A. and F. were playing, respectively: Marshal the U.S. Marshal and Juanito the Bandido.

Again, we were using Brutal enemies. And it was brutal. It took us a really long time to find out objective. But, we wanted a really long time... so we could get more experience from killing! We had quite a few attacks (though not as many ambushes, since we weren't in the Swamps). We went through room after room trying to find where the expedition had failed.

However, we won this adventure too, and three of us leveled up!

Tanner leveled up! He is now at level 3! I didn't take another type of awesome bullet this time. Instead, Tanner has a Catch Phrase. I'm still trying to think of a good one!

"Not today, stone-scum!" or maybe "Let's tango, darkspawn!" or perhaps, "You call that a trickshot? I'll show you a trickshot!" *sigh* I just can't decide. But I need to before I play Tanner again.

When back in town, I also bought him the Gunslinger's Pistol, so he has that extra shot of damage, since he needs a hand free for his special ability (meaning he can't hold two one-handed guns at the same time, like the bandido...)

Scooter leveled up! He is now at level 3 and has awesome scouting abilities. He also has two axes that he fights with. He's pretty awesome.

And the Marshal actually made it to level 4! He is quite the character now, especially with his tentacle mustache, which he likes to twirl. He is going with a build that allows him to pick two mutations and decide between them. He can also use Darkstone as Grit. He now carries two Tomb Chests filled with Darkstone... like I said, he is quite the character!

We played the first Swamp adventure, since we decided to all play with new characters. This would be because we were playing with the same guy who had such an issue last time when he played the Bandit and my husband played his Outlaw... In fact, this game encompassed members of my old RPG group and my new RPG group.

D., who had so many problems playing the Bandit, played the Preacher this time and loved it!

J. played a female Outlaw named Calamity Cass and decided that he will always want to play a character class that can use multiple guns with multiple shots. Considering his luck with dice, that is not a bad idea.

My husband played Larry, a Lawman. This character will be a replacement for his Sally, who died a few games ago. He decided not to make a new Saloon Girl/Piano Player character because so many of our friends seem to like that character class.

F. played a Piano Player. After seeing Sally die, he wanted to have a new character for backup in case his Bandit gets unlucky in the Saloon.

A. played the Rancher. Like F., she saw Sally die and wanted to have a character for backup in case her Marshal gets unlucky and dies in town.

I played an Indian Scout because I wanted to try out that character class. I'm really liking her. And now I need a good Native American name. She found a raptor talon she can use for free attacks... so perhaps something to do with birds and talons? Leaning towards something Crow, since I like Crow from the myths.

All in all the game went well. Almost too well. The six of us plowed through the enemies with easy - though most of us did get poisoned. And even though the Preacher was slow, his healing sermons got much use. In fact, the Rancher could heal herself, and the Piano Player could heal or remove sanity damage... we were a pretty buff party when it came to soaking up damage!

Next time if we are with 6 players, no matter what level we are going to up the enemies to Brutal. We were playing with elite enemies, but even they were no match for our awesomeness!

After the adventure, we went back to town and spent two days in town - though we didn't have all that much money to spend.

Larry did manage to level up, just barely, but the rest of us need a little more XP before that can happen.

Still, things were much better this time with D. and everyone else still loves this game.

In honor of International Tabletop Day we decided to play Shadows of Brimstone. We chose to play "Last Stand". It was very different from the other scenarios, in that the mines was completely explored, and we just had to stand against hordes of monsters until we won.

Since this was going to be an XP fest, I chose my two lowest level characters to play: She-Runs-Swiftly, my Indian Scout, and Lawrence Pierce, my U.S. Marshall. My husband chose his two lowest characters too: Scooter, his Indian Scout, and Larry, his Lawman. So we had an extremely balance party of practically the same characters.

Scooter and Lawrence started together on one side of the mine, with She-Runs-Swiftly and Larry starting on the other.

And then the monsters started pouring in.

Larry and She-Runs-Swiftly were the first to get action. They got spiders after them. Which were easy enough to defeat.

Then we realize it would be a better strategy to stand in each of the places where monsters can appear, to lessen the chance of them spawning, so Scooter and Lawrence split up.

Lawrence was overwhelmed with six regularly spiders, and four elite spiders. But I said and I could take it - after all, he had the ability to heal himself... Hardened Resolve and all that. So Scooter left him alone and fought the Stranglers that appeared at his entrance.

Then we were ambushed by a Night Terror, well, She-Runs-Swiftly was ambushed, because at this time, Larry had run into another room, again, so that we could slow down the enemies from spawning. However, I was rolling really hot for my Carbine today, so she was able to take it down to having 4 health left, getting two crits and a hit on it. Larry easily finished it off.

Meanwhile, Lawrence was fighting spiders. In fact, he was fighting those 10 spiders for the entire rest of the game, killing off about two a turn, thanks to using his Trusty Axe. And Scooter finished off his batch of Stranglers.

Four tentacles appeared on the board, heading towards Larry and She-Runs-Swiftly, who teamed up again. Meanwhile, a Night Terror and 3 Stranglers also headed for their position.

Scooter, having finished his kills, started to move towards them. Lawrence continued to fight his spiders.

At this point, we rolled high enough again the Darkness to "win" - so now we just needed to do mop-up of all the enemies left on the board - no new enemies would appear.

I should add that I started the adventure rolling well for Darkness... then went through a patch of terrible rolls. So my husband took over rolling, of course, this meant he rolled double-fives TWICE, which sucked, but I did roll a sweet double-six later on, allowing us all to get healed.

With only one character with any sort of healing ability, we did go through all our bandages, and all our whiskey by the end, but none of us got knocked out, and we were all standing when it was over.

Larry used dynamite to take out the Stranglers and give the killing blow to the Night Terror (which had been previously injured by She-Runs-Swiftly.) Then they tackled the tentacles, though at this point they were both pretty seriously injured both mentally and physically.

Scooter didn't make it to the tentacles before they were all killed, so he started scavenging. He got a lot of XP that way... and found some artifacts... but most of the game when he scavenged he only got the worst possible options: Chilling Dread and Emerging Darkness.

Lawrence was killing spiders to the bitter end. He had the last kill, signaling the end of the game.

At the end we each got 5 loot cards, and She-Runs-Swiftly had enough XP to level up! Lawrence is still 120 XP away. He was a very low level character! However, his personal item augmented his health, and so his health is already way better than She-Runs-Swiftly!

We are going to do the town portion of the encounter today. All in all, this was our fastest encounter ever, clocking in at around two hours from start to finish. Next time we are using the Brutal side of the cards... for more XP!

We invited friends over to play this for the first time. S. and J. (not the same S. and J. of our RPG group) created their characters, while my husband and I played some of our lowest level characters so we wouldn't overwhelm them.

A. did a good job rolling for darkness as we delved into the mines.

We just joined a second RPG group. As our character creation finished up a bit early, and so we brought out Shadows to play!

J. created Juanita her Bandida, S. created Marsha his U.S. Marshal, my husband and I each played new characters where we didn't write down any of the stats - basically one-shot characters, as we didn't want to be more powerful than them.

We only had time for one adventure, but we had a lot of fun - and it was nice to relax with what is essentially a dungeon-crawl after the lengthy character creation session!

This was played at a board game party our friends hosted - they are our former RPG group which we get together to play long board games with a couple of times a year. We brought both our box sets.

My husband was playing Scooter his Indian Scout (since he decided not to play Wally again with this particular group after how little fun D. had last time). Our friend J. was playing his U.S. Marshal. D. played his Preacher, T. was playing Smokin' Sue the saloon girl, and Z. was playing a Rancher. I was playing El Lobo, my Bandido, since I didn't mind all the random rolls and failures. So we had a full group of six to run through the mines!

This is the last time we played at our old apartment. After this game, within a week this was boxed up, ready for our move.

We had A. and F. over, and they ran their usual U.S. Marshal and Bandido. My husband played Wally the Outlaw, and I played Ezekiel McTavish the Preacher.

We were playtesting a mission I wrote for Shadows of Brimstone: Swamps of Death: Barrels of Fun, which is designed to focus on the passages, as opposed to the rooms, and uses the character attributes more. It also uses the barrel tokens that came with the game but had no purpose. There were exploding barrels, trapped barrels, undead, and lots of chances to get Gear and Artifacts, which was another point of the adventure - more chances to see new gear cards!

We didn't have anyone over for the game, it was just my husband and I, running two characters each.
