I enjoyed the Harry Potter books when I read them, but am by no means an authority. I've been trying to get my oldest kid to read them and he bogged down in the middle of book 2.

Anyways, I was very interested to see what JKR would want to write about when she returned to Harry and gang in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts 1&2

Granted it's a play, and the first real return to a beloved literary universe, so it needs to kind of be a tour of the Potterverse. In that kind of project it's tough to introduce new concepts or new story elements; people come to the theater because they want to see what they know and love, and have already seen. (Maybe a little bit like The Force Awakens.)

Anyways, there's a little bit of heart in there, some emotional moments with Harry and his boy, and the tough moments that are part of being a kid and of raising kids.

Being a play it goes fast, which is also nice. But I'd say it's a fans-only exercise, although I'm sure the play is really fun.

Not much extra reading outside of my lunch breaks happened this month. I finished up the Hobbit, and am almost through The Fellowship of the Ring.

Finished up this fabulous book that was suggested by my co-workers.

They had read it as a way to facilitate ideas for process change on our team.

Well I'm not sure that it will cause wholesale change in on our team, it was an interesting study in the way that change can happen and the catalysts that can be used.

This weekend I started two new books, and expect to get through both.

...is a murder mystery from my comfort reading collection: we own the entire series, and it's recurring characters and settings with new mysteries. 240pp in a couple days.

The second is a loaner from a colleague:

The first 75pp were a good rip, even if a lot of it reflected my ordinary life experiences. I'm mostly interested in learning how Seoul culture differs from Korean culture.

Erich Maria Remarque - Flotsam (novel)

Hard life of emigrants in Europe (1938-39). These people were deprived of nationality in Germany and Austria. They were forced to live illegally or semi-legally in Austria, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland, France (in Nazy Germany they almost inevitably would be taken to concentration camp). They looked for any job (even temporary), suffered from swindlers. Police and customs officers huntered them. But they managed to keep humanity and good feelings to one another.

The book (as usual for Remarque) - is kind and a little sad.
