Let's face it: as beautiful as some game boxes can be, often their size and interior layout has little to do with the game itself.

Now this is no sin, but there's just something undeniably gratifying about finding a way to repackage everything into a nicer, smaller, (and hopefully more organized!) container.

So I figure, why not create a nerdy little BGG showcase for games that you've managed to creatively/efficiently rebox?

Whether you've discovered the perfect card case to make your game more portable, re-designed it's components in a novel and more efficient way, or crafted a beautiful box replacement, I want to see it!

I've found that the two deck Ultra Pro flip box is fantastic for carting around my copy of the resistance.
On the left side I have every card from the base game + the three current expansions (in thematically appropriate Netrunner sleeves of course), on the right are the Plot Thickens cards, and room for all of the guns/misc cardboard chits.
There's even room behind the two deck slots to fit all of the expansion rule books for reference! It's absolutely perfectly shaped to accommodate.

Since the mission board is the largest single piece in the resistance, I've gone ahead and replaced it with double sided mission cards (printable off a file on BGG) that can be arranged to suit any player count.

Plus, I'd like to make a huge shout out to Kenmonster for sending me those beautiful quilted Resistance patches I've stuck on either side of the box. Remarkable.

Before I move on from The Resistance, I'd like to show off this little cutie:

A couple friends and I thought it would be amusing to pull together a Resistance: Pocket edition that fits in a disarming little Love Letter satchel.

In this case, the white/black beads are voting markers, the greens are for mission assignments, and... well, you know the rest.

Hypothetically, we could even do without the character and success/fail cards, instead just having players secretly place their white or black beads in the bag and passing it around... but at that point I feel we'd be sacrificing some visual clarity.

Bear with me here as I continue to expound upon my love for these Ultrapro dual deck flip cases.
Not only do they look magnificent, but I've discovered that the internal area of each deck space is exactly the width of a One Night Werewolf card when sleeved.

I've been able to snuggly fit all three One Night games to date lengthwise into the box, and sort them by type by direction facing. There's room at the end for a little plastic bag with all the reference tokens and marks.

There's even room lay out the Vampire mark brackets atop the cards.
An excellent, light weight all in one solution.

San Juan is a fun game... but that box is enormous compared to what's inside.
I happened across a $2 off brand MTG deck box that manages to preserve the thematic coloring, while taking up far less space.

With this, I can throw SJ into a bag for game night without ever worrying about a runaway trade value marker again.

My images are pending, but I've been working on GeekElite's method for making custom square card game boxes. All my individual images are pending GeekMod (and low-quality due to being on my phone) but I think they look smashing on the shelf and I love the consistent look. So far, I have boxes for Star Realms, The Shooting Party, Rook, and Mille Bornes, and I have boxes designed for 7 Noyabrya (Two Rooms and A Boom) and Hanabi as well.

Arboretum's already pretty small... yet, the box still feels like it takes up far too much space compared to what's inside.
Part of Arboretum's charm is in just how much game they managed to pack into just a few cards. The genius is in doing so much with so little.

Having a box three times as big as it needed to be for a simple pack of cards just feels sacrilegious.

Fortunately, I managed to happen across a slightly oversized 52 card deck-box that (if only just barely) fits all 80 cards!
Pocket sized, and clear to show off the game's beautiful artwork.

Now, Intrigue is one of my all time favorite games... and to be completely fair to it, the box and it's inlay are already pretty small, and already make relatively efficient use of space.

...But that won't stop me, no sir.

The game only amounts to a few chits, 15 cards, and some paper money (which I soon hope to replace with poker chips); and yet it can be more cutthroat than even Diplomacy.

Given that it's currently out of print, but still dear to my heart, I went ahead and built my own version of Zendo using 3 different colors of dice and a few beads.

Not quite as nice as pyramids, but far more compact and easy to carry around in a dice pouch!
Personally, I like it quite a bit better than the original. What it lacks in shape and size permutations, it gains in visual clarity and the ability to construct small structures.

I got all 6 of the Gipf Project games and two expansion packs. I happened to have a perfect 6-board wooden box in which they fit. So I carved the box like this:

I will say that this box is quite heavy since the Gipf pieces are dense and numerous.

Grabbed some sticker paper and printed off a scaled down version of the big box cover art, then slapped in on an old Fleet Box (after upgrading to the big box for that game). Fits everything perfectly!

Qwinto
Reiner Knizia's Decathlon
Rolling Japan

Each game has the necessary dice, rules, and laminated score sheets within a felt lined box that also serves as a dice tray. There are a few dice bags there as well for when it is necessary for a given game, and of course some dry erase markers.

I travel mostly with my bike and by train. Because of that I really dislike half-empty boxes. So I started reboxing some games. The first one I will share with you is "Duplik".

Here you can compare the original box with my new one. I used the box from the "Galaxy Trucker" expansion "The Missions" because I fitted everything in the main box. I just printed the cover from "Duplik" and glued it to the other box. To increase the durability I glued a transmissible film to the printed paper. The result is not perfect, but I like the saving of space.

Inside the box is still enough room for all the components.

I did this for some more games. I will share them too.

We played this one in Essen 2015 by accident. We were waiting for the reserved play of another game and saw a free table. Fall in love with the easiness and fastness of play. But the box was so huge and empty. Only the boards were big.

So the first I did was cutting the boards into 3 parts. I fixed them with translucent tape so that I could fold them into the new, much smaller box.

On the right side, you see the new box. Original it was an expansion of Carcassonne. The original Om Nom Nom box on the left side is now my box for Betrayal at House on the Hill.

Everything fits in the new box very well.
