This geeklist completed it's cycle on March 29, 2018. A successor has been started here: Solitaire Games - Fair Trade it Forward Part 2

Solitaire Games - Fair Trade It Forward

Soloists in the UK and EU should also visit the [CLOSED] Solitaire Games - Fair Trade It Forward (European Edition). While this list is closed to no one, keeping shipping more regionally focused may foster better trades for everyone.

This list is inspired by the Wargamers - Fair Trade it Forward, which was itself inspired by the BGG WARGAME Chain of Generosity (which is also similar to the The Solo Games Chain of Generosity). So it has quite the pedigree in generosity.

The purpose of this geeklist is to get solitaire games (or games that can be played with solitaire variants) moving from homes where they are not being played to homes where they can be more appreciated. It is not an auction or drawing system. It is a direct 1:1 item or bundle gifting of trust to one person in response to an item received from another.

As compared to the existing The Solo Games Chain of Generosity, this is one long single chain. Since there is no drawing element, there is no conflict with that system (which is fun to take part in as well).

How It Works

The last item on the list is always the item currently available for offer. A person may claim the item by offering another item to "pay forward". When that item is claimed by another person, they are sent the item they claimed.

To Claim An Item

Calling "dibs" on an item is not a valid claim. The only way to make a claim on an item is to post the next item on the geeklist. State which item you're claiming (if there is a choice) from the previous geeklist item and then the details of the item you're offering. (view the history on Wargamers - Fair Trade it Forward for a clear understanding).

Only one claim can be made against a geeklist item. The first one to post a valid claim (i.e. a new item) is the claimant.

To Receive An Item

In order to receive the item you claimed, a claim must be made on your offered item. Once a claim is made, the person who offered the item you claimed should contact you and arrange shipping.

Deadlines (updated 2/28/2018)

Normal Time Window: 48 hours*
Reduced Time Window: 24 hours*
* special trial values during February 2018 (LINK TO POLL). Declared normal on 2/28/2018.

An item typically has the normal time window (specified at the top of this section) in which to be claimed. I as moderator may extend that during holiday periods, etc., but it will always be at least the normal time window length from when the item was first listed (see note below for exceptions). During that period, you may add additional items or optional choices to entice someone to claim your item (and enable you to receive yours). After the window has expired, the item will be removed from the Geeklist ONLY by the moderator and the previous item will be back on offer until claimed again.

NOTE: Certain low value items or items of low list interest (as determined by the list moderator) may be noted as under the reduced time window (specified at the top of this section). The moderator will comment on the item indicating the reduced period.

Should this happen, the chain is only rewound one item. All previous sends should have already happened by that point.

All times stated by the moderator are in the Eastern US Time Zone (either DST or not depending on the month). Time windows are relative to the timestamp on the geeklist entry which is adjusted for your timezone by BGG (if set to do so).

What Can Be Offered

(effective 4/27/2017 a list of restricted games will be included at the bottom of this header)

As this is for solitaire games, the primary item offered should be a game that can be played by a single human being WITHOUT PLAYING AGAINST THEMSELVES. This includes solo games, solo vs. AI games, and cooperative games. Two player wargames are not allowed as the primary offering.

Expansions: Expansions for solo games that do not impede solo play (i.e. make the base game multiplayer only) are allowed as a primary item. (example: adventure packs for LOTR LCG). Official (i.e. from the same company) Expansions for a normally multiplayer game that add solo play are allowed as a primary item. (example: Conflict of Heroes Solo Expansion).

Solo Variants: If the game includes an OFFICIAL solo variant (either in the box or from the publisher) it can be included as the primary item.

Other Types of items that may not fall into the clear categories above yet lend themselves to the solo spirit of this list will be considered on a one by one basis. Please ask via private message if you have any doubt an item qualifies.

There is also no rule that says a game you offer has to be in your collection. You could offer a game to be dropshipped to someone from a retailer (might save you on shipping). You may NOT however offer a gift certificate or spending spree as an item or an option.

Likewise crowdfunded (Kickstarter, etc.) items that are not in the possession of the claimant may NOT be offered as main items or as options. There is too much risk involved that could backfire down stream when the list has moved well past it.

Optional choices or secondary items (added to make the offering sweeter) can be included in the body of the geeklist item. Be sure to mark them as a choice or as included with the primary item. These choices can be any game, not strictly solitaire. Provided the main item meets the solo requirements.

Questions concerning an item's condition, edition, shipping or any other details should be asked in the comments of the item in question. The offering person should be sure to subscribe to their listing so that questions can be answered promptly.

Shipping

The person offering the item agrees to ship anywhere in the world (certain risky countries may be explicitly stated as an exception, but of course may hinder the desirability of your offer).

The person offering the item is expected to cover the shipping of the item to the person receiving it. However, there are the following exceptions.

You may specify a cap on shipping to another country.
You may specify a cap on shipping in general.
You may NOT specify shipping restrictions on a subsection of a country. (i.e. you cannot ship free to CONUS and charge for Alaska or Hawaii or APO/FPO).
APO/FPO are considered part of the USA for shipping.

Keep in mind that shipping restrictions may reduce the interest in your offering.

Shipping should occur as close to your offered item being released as possible. If there are extenuating circumstances to prevent rapid shipping, please notify the recipient as soon as possible. If there are any concerns, please let me know and I will see if I can help.

If you are interested in an item with shipping restrictions, you must work out (either in comments or private message) with the lister any shipping expenses BEFORE you make a claim on the item.

Summary

The Fair-Trade concept is a great compromise to insure gamers can move games along while providing a fair means of insuring they offering something of comparable value in return from what they are receiving. Value is always in the eyes of the recipient of course. But being a good sport and offering something of roughly the same value you will receive will make this list a success.

Example:

Game 0 is the current offer.

Jane offers Game A in claim for the previous item (Game 0).

Bob wants Game A, so he offers Game B as the next item on the list. As a valid claim has been made on Game A, the person who offered game 0 can now ship to Jane. Jane does not ship Game A to Bob yet.

Gina wants Game B, so she offers Game C. Jane ships Game A to Bob. Bob waits to ship Game B until Gina's offer is claimed.

48 hours later, in spite of Gina's best efforts, no one wants her stinkin' game. So that offer is withdrawn (item deleted by her or the mod). Bob's offer of Game B is back up for grabs. Nothing else is rolled back, but it's up to Bob to make sure his offer is claimed to insure the integrity of the fair trade (he already has his game from Jane).

Fortunately George also wants Game B and offers Game D for it.

Dana wants Game D, and makes an offer of Game E. Bob ships to George. George waits for Game D to be claimed...

... and so on and so forth.

Other Rules

IMPORTANT: In the unlikely event, you believe that someone is not following the intent of these rules, DO NOT point it out publicly on this list. Instead geekmail me privately and if I think the situation needs to be addressed, I will do so.

A person cannot make a claim on their own item.

A person whose claim just expired may not submit a subsequent claim for the same item unless a full new offer window time period (48 hours) has passed. This is to allow someone else a fair chance to claim the item.

If Your Offer Times Out... Do NOT delete your listing. I will delete the items myself after capturing a screenshot for transparency. I don't want people to get in the habit of simply deleting offers as it then might cause confusion as to when the previous offer timed out, etc.

I'm normally on to catch these 90% of the time (or soon after), but occasionally I have other engagements (WORK!).

Thanks!

Restricted Games List - The following games MAY NOT be posted as a primary offer in spite of being qualified by all apparent criteria. Claiming Cruel Necessity

And lets keep the Victory Point goodness going. I am offering up:

Darkest Night: Necromancer Bundle

This is the 1st Edition special release of Darkest Night that included the first two expansions with it ( Darkest Night: With an Inner Light, and Darkest Night: On Shifting Winds) as well as the Darkest Night: Nymph Promo. All game pieces are in great condition. And there is something to be said about this edition of Darkest Night. I know that the second edition just came out - but the wooden cut pieces in the 1st edition are just amazing.

All of this comes in a red VP Games box with the sleeve over it. The sleeve, as is typical of these games, has a some wear on it.

If you have been wanting to check out Darkest Night - this is the way to go about it. I only have this copy because I found a bundle to complete the other expansions that also came with all of this - so I am passing this bundle on to you.

Free Shipping in the U.S. UP to 15 anywhere else.

Claiming Rogue Agent w/ Criminals.

Previously offered Airfix Battles back in November 2016 when this list began (LINK).

And as such this geeklist circle is complete.

Imminent changes to my schedule and access are going to severely curtail my ability to properly administrate this list and I've decided the best resolution is to end this one here and hope someone decides to carry the torch with their own version of this. As it's proven to be a great success IMO, I think any similar effort will be equally if not more successful.

BGG does not allow me to transfer a geeklist to someone else. I'd also considered holding on until someone could just start a new list and then migrate the last "offer" here to be the first "offer" there, but I felt it best to let the next initiative be unlinked as it were to this one. I didn't want to be responsible for picking the next administrator from a list of raised hands either nor did I want any hurt feelings with a community vote. I could contact someone directly and ask them to take it over, but again, it's a big responsibility with occasional (but thankfully few) headaches... so someone saying "yes" up front might not realize what they signed on for and want to hand it off again.

Suggestions for a new administrator:

1. Create a new account on BGG "Solo FTF Moderator" like the secret cowboy thing. Have the geeklist owned by that account and then that account password can be transferred to a new moderator or shared between a moderation team to make the job easier.

2. Feel free to copy any or all of the rules I have in place. Or none. But any text or wording you want to use you are of course welcome to.

3. Make it your own. My rules, times, etc. were what I saw as best, but may not work for you.

4. Have fun.

5. There is nothing to say multiple such lists cannot be run. I would keep it to one "chain" per geeklist, but if several folks wanted to run their own, that's just more opportunity to trade.

So as I said, this circle has been completed (like a large 700+ item math trade chain). Thank you for your support and participation. I hope to see you all in another iteration somewhere as time permits.
