Games you can play online via Battlegrounds Gaming Engine
-
Battlegrounds is commercial, ad-free, game-agnostic peer-to-peer software that supports playing most boardgames, wargames, tabletop miniature games, dice games, and card games (no scripting/programming required, not even XML). Multiuser game sessions support up to 16 simultaneous participants. BGE is an application that you download and install, it is not a webapp. The software does not have an AI opponent, nor does it enforce game rules, but many common game mechanics and dice-rolling mechanics are supported.
The price of BGE ranges from $14 (for a Gamer Client with 1 free Player Slot) to $38 (for a Gamer Client with 15 free Player Slots).
Although licenses for BGE are usually purchased for a one-time fee, it is now also available via monthly subscription.
Online games are best played with voice chat software (e.g. Skype, Ventrilo, Discord, etc.) running in the background. Battlegrounds can also be used offline, as a digital gameboard. It is also a useful tool for creating digital prototypes of new games and playtesting them with gamers anywhere in the world, without the hassle of crafting print-and-play kits. Digital game conversions (i.e., "modules", for those accustomed to Vassal and ZunTzu terminology) can be quickly and easily created in the software and shared with your friends.
You can easily browse all of the free and commercial game conversions for the Battlegrounds software using the new Battlegrounds DLC Gallery.
Game designers and publishers who would like to have a digital conversion for Battlegrounds made of their game should contact me.
