The 2017 Solo and Coop Unpossible Challenge
If you answered yes to one of those questions, then this geeklist is for you.
This is the 2017 edition of the Solo and Coop Unpossible Challenge that has a long and proud history reaching all the way back to when Columbu... OK, OK, it started in 2016.
Anywayz, the idea is to set yourself one very hard goal worthy of the title "Unpossible". Choose a game and set a goal that you've never achieved in that game. Beat the currently known high score for the game, or beat your own high score if it's a tough one, or if it's a game you've lost to in all your 57 plays make the goal to beat that cursed game.
You could also set up a challenge that you've never tried before like winning Castellion with all the rulebook variants that make it harder. Or play through a LotR LCG cycle with one specific thematic deck without losing a single game. Or beat Friday on Level 5 without using a single “Destroy” card. Or remove 50 pieces from a Jenga tower with your eyes closed... and your hand tied behind your back... what do I know, come up with your own damn challenge .
Any solo or coop is fair game – it doesn’t have to be you alone, you can also set a goal with your coop gaming group.
Personally, I've picked a game that fits being spare time and table space challenged: Limes. I'm carrying that over from last year, where my goal was to reach 60 points without any promos or variant rules. After around 450 plays my best score was 59. Sigh. I'm assuming that I'll still be going at it, when I'm retiring in 25 years .
The intention is not to make you play a game a specific number of times, but instead make a specific game more interesting by setting a new and very hard goal to strive for. There's nothing wrong with challenges that require a specific number of plays and I've completed three 10x10 challenges, but I've found that it's not for me.
