Dear Santa,
volume 1: the original letter

may you have as merry a time during Christmas as possible! The prospect of your visit this year is the reason I've come to edit this page for the first time since registering on BGG... three years ago, I think. Better late than never, I guess.

Wishlist explanation

Now, I know the number of positions on my wishlist may be somewhat overwhelming - but let me explain. When I'm browsing BGG, I like to save things that are of interest to me and the wishlist is the easiest way to do that. Moreover, I PnP quite a lot (I do intend to put up a list, but since time is short, for now let me just nudge you to my WizWar redesign) and like to keep tabs on potential future projects to tackle. Because of that, for the longest time my wishlist was an absolute mess. No more! It is now cleaned and sorted and here's the key to it:

Wishlist priority 1 are games which I intend to have in my collection one day, one way or another, the most desired ones.

● Priorities 2 and 3 (without any important difference between them) are other games that I'm positive that I'd enjoy.

● Finally, priorities 4 and 5 are games belonging to the categories described above - basically, treat them more as my doodles than actual wishes.

Language dependence

As far as language dependence is concerned, I'm equally comfortable with Polish and English, so there's no difference between these for me - quite often, I'd actually even prefer my non-native language for the increased originality of the game. Outside of these two languages, however... let's say it's a bad idea.

Gaming group

This one is one of my biggest problems with gaming -- I do not have or belong to any real gaming group. On a daily basis, I play with my sister only, so two player games are in very high regard in my collection. She's also the only hardcore gamer beside me, so when the family gathers in a larger number, usually we stick to Skat, Canasta and Da Bai Fen, however beside card games we also play things like Ticket to Ride, Power Grid, Fluxx, Dixit or Freya's Folly.

For these reasons, 2-player games and gateway games that allow for 5 players are in the greatest demand. That being said, there are occasions when I have the pleasure of entertaining more solid groups, so the 3- and 4-player titles are by no means unwanted in my collection.

Thinking inside the chimney

With all that said, I'm not adverse to being surprised and trying out something new, although there are certain types of games I generally dislike:

a) pure luck - there's not too many of those, luckily, but I deem it worth noting,

b) total randomness - Munchkin *shudders* (yes, I do have Fluxx and I absolutely love Wiz-War (fifth edition, not the joke that is eighth), but both of these actually include strategy - in the latter case, quite a lot of it),

c) collectibles - I won't buy X packs of something to play a game - it should be a whole in itself. There is a gray area where games like Carcassonne, Neuroshima Hex! 3.0, Descent, Talisman and Imperial Assault are concerned - it's a topic for lengthy discussion - but I've got all I need for the first two, and want nothing more for the others anyway,

d) BattleLore command system - three cards in hand for the left flank while the battle is happening on the right, 'nuff said,

e) there's most likely more, although nothing comes to mind immediately.

It's better to grow than to shrink

While admittedly new and shiny stuff makes for the best gifts, I am not at all opposed to accepting something that isn't shrink-wrapped (Common Sense™ applied).

Egocentric monologue

Should my other hobbies be of any interest (whatever the cause), those would include ponies (well, duh), programming in C#, fantasy literature (Tolkien and Pratchett ❤), roleplaying (only forum-based though, IRL people are too silly to engage in a serious roleplay) and heavy music (both electronic and metal). Oh, and I've been an avid player of League of Legends for more than five years now.

Should you want to know more, do not be afraid to ask anything! I'm open to any and all conversation (including these mysterious so-called taunts everyone around here is so excited about) and though I may not respond immediately to any messages I get, I will do so as fast as I'm able to.

Store "recommendation"

I've read that you might appreciate such information, Santa. There are quite a few good board game online stores in my country, but to save you troubles with looking them up, here's a concise list:

www.mepel.pl - the best prices around, good packing and quick shipping
www.planszak.pl - good prices as well, haven't tried it yet but heard good opinions
www.planszostrefa.pl - a wider offer than others
www.rebel.pl - a publisher of many games in Polish; higher prices but the package safety goes above and beyond anything seen anywhere else

Those are the ones I'm most aware of. By no means feel compelled to use one of them; it's just an attempt to save you the trouble of searching

Sincerely yours,
WZ.

Dear Santa,
volume 2: and that's how a contact was made

By some crafty divination or proficient scrying techniques for which I'm sure your elves have all the necessary equipment, you've come up with a sweet way to break the ice and make me smile at the end of a tiring day.

It may seem strange, but I almost want to believe you'll know what I say next -- that I've used this exact reference after signing up for the ride, and perhaps even that I have, by way of scientifical* experiment, come to the conclusion that Pinkie Pie is the best pony.

* - yes, I know it's not a word

Thanks a lot already! I don't know how else to respond, so here's a Pinkie Wink to cheer you right back on and put a smile wide as miles on your lips as well!

I am on it. Don't hold your breath though, this will take a while

One day later... 5 questions answered. Which is good, but...

Two days gone. Six more items to do. But now... snore

The answers to your questions have been found! Depending on how you look at it, they're either 20976 (which I personally think is the correct way) or 3978.

Click here if you'd like to know more whistle

I hope your own Santa's treating you at least half as well!

Happy reading

Dear Mrs. Santa,
volume 4: or should it be volume 1 since the recipient changed?

I'm sorry to have caused you confusion and overjoyed to have brought you happiness in any shape or form, which was only a fitting reciprocation in any case.

I don't really know what to reply to the half-puzzles, half-responses. I tried to analyze them, but came up blank. Let me just assure you then that there are no wrong answers.

And thank you so much for a bright display of love & tolerance. These ponies have brought uncountable amounts of smiles, relaxation and entertainment to me over the years. And you're not the first to mistake them for other species -- one of my teachers once commented she likes the cat on my T-shirt laugh

Stay amazing!

P.S. It's sad to go alone. Take this.

Dear Mrs. Santa,
volume 5: wow

I can't thank you enough. I though the teases might point to games, but there were so many I decided you must be trying to mislead me and not give away the real gift immediately. Was I ever wrong!

I'm utterly amazed at your generosity. It's being praised far and wide.

You've made this a really memorable experience, from the very first contact. I am now officially hooked for life.

With loving admiration,
WZ.
