Aah February. The month of romance and a variable number of days. It's the month that the wargamer's favourite holiday comes around. That's right - Valentine's Day.

So, dim the lights, open a bottle of wine, who knows what could happen? You've been dropping hints all night but is now the right time? You take your lover's hand "I want to take you..." - is this really happening? - "on a journey to 4th century Armenia" - pause, the atmosphere is electric - "Will you come with wih me?". By this stage your copy of Great Battles of Obscurity is fully visible. We all know what the answer wil be. Oh yes, we all know what the answer will be.

Err, anyway, please take a moment (once you have taken a cold, cold shower) to answer the eternal question: What wargames are on your table this month? And if you have any wargame related erotic fitcion that you want to share - please keep it to yourself.

Continuing Gettysburg with Edwin on Vassal. We are in the early light of the 2nd of July and I have just ordered an attack on the Rebel's south flank around Mcpherson's Ridge.

I'm in the early stages of two games on Vassal. One as the Allies, one as the Germans. It's a bit early to say which way the wind is blowing yet but I would not be surprised to lose them both.

Such an accessible game. Now sure how Bulge-y it really is but for the level of complexity (v. low) it is a very good game. I'd play it with new wargamers and grumpy old wargamers alike, and expect everyone to enjoy it.

Well done, little game.

Bringing out this old reliable after a 2 year hiatus shake

For some reason right now, I am on a Pacific Theater of WWII "kick".
I always have great fun with this game.

This time seems like it might be a bit more challenging as the IJN is focused on Guadalcanal and I have to defend with the Saratoga and Wasp

More for the Pacific pile. Doesn't take too long to read the rules for this one. I remember enjoying it when I played it few years ago, so I thought I would take it for a spin when time and table-space are at a premium. It's also on the list of games I have decided to try again and then decide to keep or sell.

Terry Leeds did an amazing job with art direction for this game. Reading the rules now, and stickering blocks.

I hope to have it on the table with my regular opponent next Thursday.

This will be my first foray into OCS. The map is under plexi and doing some reading on the topic as well. I am poring through the rules and yesterday finished clipping the second of the three counter sheets. I also printed out the detailed example of play from 2008. Daunting but excited about getting into the logistics aspects of this system.

This sat more or less unplayed for about a year as there were some concerns with the rules as released.

The rules have been updated and I gave it another go and I am very pleased I have. Unfortunately the press at the time put my potential gaming buddies off it, so I can only solo it.

There have been no major changes to the rules, so it is the same game as was originally released, they have just clarified all the issues and made some amendments to 1861 start.

The support for this game has been fantastic and any questions raised are answered within hours.

I would advise anyone with an interest in this subject to buy a copy

This arrived a couple of weeks ago and is now on my table.

I have long been taken with the beauty of La Bataille and with the drama of Napoleonic battles, but I have never quite settled into a game properly.

The multiple rule sets, and their combination of looseness and verbosity have made it hard for me to absorb the mechanics and really play.

Will it be different this time? I want it to be ...

Speaking of the drama of Napoleonic battles, I am playing a learning game of this via VASSAL.

No looseness of language or verbosity here. But despite the relative simplicity of the mechanics, the game makes my head hurt. In a good way.

Soft Underbelly scenario. Sicily and Calabria taken, Corsica and Athens liberated. Air superiority achieved, the pesky FW190 has been cut down to size. Regia Marina sunk for the loss of HMS Valiant. However both my generals are on the mainland and the North of Italy is chock full of Germans.

Buddy and I started the campaign last night and made it through March '42. We're hoping to make it through the end, but my German war machine got a killer start.

My Winter '41 starting line reached from the hex south of Leningrad (it wasn't cut out of supply, yet) to the gates of Stalingrad and 3 hexes due south of Rostov. Right as we finished up last night I cut Leningrad out of rail supply in Volkhov in February '42.

The score at the end of November '41 was Axis +11, so I'm holding a commanding lead, but dang, he had a lot more HQ points behind the line than I thought he did.

I got inspired to break out this NES game after some playings of the old SPI Eylau/Dresden double. Dresden was an interesting battle, with some urban combat which was rare (outside Spain)

From gallery of Aussie550

I initially set up the introductory scenario and tried it with basic NAW/NAL rules ( i.e no steps, no disruption) but quickly found it didn't work, so now playing thru using the NES ruleset, with the variant bombardment rules.

I have to say that graphically it's nice to behold with pleasing counters and map, but the morale/SP/VP tracking and some rule obscurities is making it a little tedious to play...that said, I'm still a fan of Mark Hinkle's work. The care he lavishes on the design and graphics of each release always shines through.

I like the situation though, and planning to give it another go using Markus Stumpter's variant rules.

I started with the Leetown scenario which is about over with a tremendous Confederate win. Thanks to a key Fortunes of War draw right before a Union Division activation. Then the Confederates followed up in a successful close combat to shatter the Union Brigade. (Can't remember the name of the brigade) The Confederates are occupying Leetown just racking up VPs. I love the Blind Swords system, it is a blast to play.

Two games of FA3.

In our vassal-skype game, we're in March/April '15. The German player is bitching because his Russia-first strategy didn't cause an immediate collapse of Russia. The Russian player (me) is telling him to stop his bitching and fight; this is WW1 not WW2 and countries don't collapse overnight. His Austrians (with Bulgarian help) did just take out Serbia, though the Serbs pledge to fight on from Albania, currently being held by the French.

In my solo game the Centrals aren't doing well at all. It's May/June 1917 and the Americans just entered and Russia is still standing.

Bill, Steve, Doug and I continue our live-vassal-skype Case Blue + Guderian OCS mega-game. We've been at it for a while now! The Germans (Bill and I) have punched a big hole in the Soviet line between Voronezh (under heavy pressure) and Starobelsk. My Army Group South just took Voroshilovgrad; Soviet forces there risk being pocketed from the north.
