Is your board gaming shelf full to bursting?

Running out of table space?

Feeling "hemmed in" by the limits of a board game?

How about a solo RPG?

There are lots of benefits:

1 - Can buy PDFs of all the rules and tools you need, no more clogging up shelf space!

2 - Can choose to adventure wherever and whenever you like, no more being stuck on a board that is the same for every playthrough

3 - When a game takes place in your mind, the art is always fantastic!

4 - Why choose between miniatures, tokens and standees when the players and creatures in your game can be living, breathing (sometimes) characters and monsters that come to life?

Welcome to the Solitaire RPGs on Your Table list!

We are young and still growing so help us out by playing an RPG and posting here. This is all about escaping from dreary reality for a few hours to become someone, or something, else. Adventures await us in space, at sea, on land, underground, in the future, in the past, in an alternate dimension or anywhere else your imagination can take you.

Not sure how to RPG alone? Ask some questions here, everyone is friendly and we are all learning how to do this together.

The "rules" are easy to learn and keep in mind:

1. Have fun!

2. Play any RPG (pen&paper, gamebook, whatever...) and post about it. What happened during your session? How do you play? What components do you use? How did you get to this game? Mini review or session report? It's up to you! Share as much or as little as you want. You can't do anything wrong here. What you think is an RPG, is an RPG.

3. Be kind to each other.

4. Have tons of fun!

March contest - Inspire me !

As a newcomer to the world of RPG's, I would like you to inspire me to play your game. Tell me what makes it a great system. Tell me something funny or epic thats happened. Give me a reason to try it. You will be given a share of any geek gold.

Combined with the Location Crafter and the GM-emulator

after almost a whole week of reading, studying, thinking on a story, re-reading I finally could start a first small session of my 2 character solo adventure. Actually difficult because not so experienced on rpg-ing, and first time GM :-)

But Jake (human) and Lox (cathar) got off on Siskeen with a small economic mission to get them some starting credits, Jake (explorer, trader) has to get a cantina in a remote mining village back running and Lox (bounty hunter gagdeteer) is supporting keeping unwanted attention out (and some extra bounty money in)

It's a weird experience, thinking on story lines and trying to get that into solo game sessions with skill checks. So actually fun to think on adventures but complex on realising them

So Saturday was GM's Day (hope you all had a happy one)!

In celebration, Drivethrurpg.com has a huge sale going on until March 13th.

It tipped me over into purchasing a bunch of the Gamemaster's Apprentice decks in PDF form! I have spent most of the day printing, cutting and sleeving these cards.

The Gamemaster's Apprentice is a deck of multi-use cards that function like Mythic GME, but in card form. I picked up the generic deck, plus the Sci-fi, Horror, and Demon Hunter decks. They also have an Age of Sail deck but I haven't grabbed that one (yet).

At the same time as he was writing the first Fighting Fantasy book Book 01: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain Ian Livingstone wrote an introduction to RPGs called Dicing with Dragons. It included an 134-paragraph solo adventure called The Eye of the Dragon. Surprisingly, it included a more complicated combat system than Fighting Fantasy. It teaches some tropes and basics of dungeon bashing, but is not a very fair or particularly interesting adventure.

Twenty-three years later Livingstone expanded the adventure in the Fighting Fantasy format for Wizard Books special editions. There's now 407 paragraphs, more backstory and climax, and plenty of added sections.

It still only took me two evenings to complete. I can't recommend this one except to a completist. There are references to previous titles and even a portrait of Livingstone as a friendly shopkeeper. It's not so unforgiving as to require you to find every item, so there is some variation in solutions. Unfortunately, there's a lot of sections unimportant to play, several unavoidable deathtraps and the NPC sidekick may soon get on your nerves.

Still, I recovered the Golden Dragon and earned a share of 30,000gp which should set my character up for life.

Started creating my main character for my first run of Witchcraft along side Mythic. I've had experience creating Unisystem character NPC's for a Dungeons & Zombies game I was running a while back, but it's a bit different creating a more modern day character, along with a more magic focused character, though I did create some witches in my D&Z days. Putting a lot of thought into this character. I have some character development ideas I want to put him through, if he can live long enough. I sacrificed a lot of good character traits I could of chose into Hard To Kill lvl5 in attempt to keep him around as the protagonist. He's going to just have to have high skill levels for things I wanted him to have character traits in... such as artistic talent character trait vs singing and guitar skill levels.

Ordered a new mechanical pencil for the multitude of characters and NPC's I need to create to start my new adventure. Every day my thoughts turn to scene 1, but where it takes me, only my big red book and a pair of percentile dice can say.

The Final Bullet!

Scene 2:

When we last left Peng Min she was on her motorcycle (with conspiracy theorist Liu Chen on the back), chasing a pair of Shi Ling's thugs driving a sports car. She hoped to catch them and interrogate them for information on the whereabouts of the controversial documents.

Peng Min shot up the car, wounding the driver and the passenger.

The two security agents returned fire with their uzis, one of them scoring a hit on Peng Min who took a bullet to the shoulder.

Peng Min continued to pepper the car with bullets, dodging the agent's return fire. Finally the driver took a critical hit and the car spun to halt.

As Shi Ling's security agent climbed out of the car, Peng Min leapt from her motorcycle and kicked his uzi out of his hand. With the agent pinned to the ground Peng Min held a gun to his head and demanded to know where the documents where being held. The agent, terrified for his life, said that Zhuan Yong still held the documents, but that Shi Lin's daughter and an entourage of security agents were about to board a plane to Lantau Island to meet with members of the Chinese Government who claimed to have evidence that would put Zhuan Yong behind bars.

Handcuffing the agent to the door of the disabled car, Peng Min and Liu Chen climbed back on to the motorcycle to head to the airport to attempt to intercept Shi Ling's daughter.

to be continued...

It's raining all weekend so I've got started on my second solo gamebook for the month. Much more modern in design than Eye of the Dragon, with a very cinematic Hammer Horror setting. It's no spoiler to say that in the early paragraphs you become infected with lycanthropy, and spend the rest of the book trying to find a cure. Good combat options and encounters with difficult and helpful people. More to come...

8. RPG: Rifts [Average Rating:5.49 Overall Rank:790]
An old game I played a lot when it first came out. I decided to do a little solo gaming today. My Juicer wandered into the isolated Blue Valley, where a nasty necromancer had set up shop. A few meanies attacked him on the way, then he found the necromancer. Johnny Max the juicer failed his prowl roll so Chombay Dallas the evil necromancer had time to summon ghouls and skeletons to aid him. Johnny Max hacked through the undead cannon fodder while Chombay cast his deadly death strike spell, but to no avail as Johnny managed to kill him before he got to use it. A fun little game. Solo gaming seems more fun when there's people to share it with.

Picked up the whole set, read through them a few times. Think I can solo it.
Created three characters, Private Snod an English farmer who survived being in the forlorn hope. Private Higglestaff, comes from long line of rank and file soldiers, very good at 'finding' things has some friends in the local guerrilas who have taught him some Spanish and Lieutenant Stephens, younger brother of Colonel Stephens, fed up with his brother being the more well known soldier is out to find glory and fame.
All three men are in the 53rd Shropshire.
Their first mission will be to find out where the French 96th Line is before taking and holding a key bridge.

I have a pile of copied stuff between my RPG things, and I wanted to clean it out yesterday. Found all the maps for the last adventures I created, plus tons of goodies.

What I also found there was the map I once created for Traveller. Also my two man crew I created for this. Had a nice idea for a background story and all the stuff you need. But I remember that I wanted to do some changes with the map and put some notes on it. My biggest "problem" with it was, that it did not have your standard map size. But now I think, why go standard? So I redid the whole map. Nicely!

Remeber I wanted to clean things, ending up painting a map for over an hour.

All this made me want to play Traveller. Means I have to refresh some rules.

This entry isn't for a play of this RPG, but will serve as a placeholder for a play later this month. Also, wanted to make folks aware of this new RPG added to the BGG database.

I have uploaded the core rules document (pending admin approval). Fair warning: this was created by me back in 1994 and it's pretty basic. It lacks fleshed out information on skills, there are no rules for vehicle combat or vehicle types described, etc. I'm hoping that by adding the item to the database and providing the rule set that people will try it out and create some additional content to share here on BGG.

Thanks and enjoy!

I made two characters, their starship, and an adventure seed with Adventure Idea Factory, with additional details from The GameMaster's Apprentice (sci-fi edition). I also decided to start things in medias res, with the PCs trapped in an eerie derelict spaceship, from where they were supposed to retrieve an artifact of the Judge Icon – when suddenly a Muzhadjar (space-dwelling bio-construct) attacks, and combat ensues. Unfortunately, the thing fell flat for me, first with the game's premise, and then with the system. I just don't think I will continue with this game, at least for now.

Sunken Empire
http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/149317/Sunken-Empire

and

Alice Black, Blood Tribute
http://www.lulu.com/ca/en/shop/chris-challice/alice-black-bl...

Mindjammer is a stand-alone game, based on Fate Core, while Sunken Empire and Mecha vs. Kaiju are settings for Fate (both require the Fate Core rules - which are available free online). Alice Black Blood Tribute is a choose-your-own-adventure-style book using Fate dice and mechanics during play (also a stand-alone, no core rule book required).

I have picked up a bunch of stuff for the Fate system over the last few weeks, need to get playing some of it!

And my crew has taken off! My characters, Edgar and Friedemann were hired by the O'Brian Trade Federation. The ship, the Surprise, the goods and the crew belong to O'Brian. Our job is to find cutomers and sell the goods.

And right at the start, I found myself in a position I would give my gaming group if I was the GM. whistle A ship loaded with goods, but the best customers for the goods are 3 jumps away!

I was planning, calculating and counting for a while until I came to the conclusion, that I have to risk it. There are gas giants all the way, so I there is no need to pay for fuel. But still, I need to sell all the goods for 208 % if I want to make a 10 % win on them. That is going to be crazy. I'm in...

Picked up a bunch of small press RPG stuff recently at one of my awesome FLGS, including "Alice Black: Blood Tribute". This is a self-published Fate-based choose-your-own-adventure book. I have been feeling run down lately and have had a hard time getting anything to the table. Reading a book and chucking a few dice seemed like an easy hurdle to get over.

A surprisingly dark tale of anthropomorphic animal space-pirates. I enjoyed my playthrough. The story is quick and fun and I enjoyed getting to use my Fate dice. The only downside is a handful of typos/spelling issues. Not too many for a self-published book but I do find them a bit distracting. Other than that, pretty good. Will definitely play through again.

I decided to try this out tonight. It's a light game in which you play out the week of a slime. It's a very lighthearted game using candy for the randomizer. I used dSkittles.

The game was fun enough but I felt a bit unsure about how to deal with success/failures. In the end I decided not to worry about it and just let the Skittles lead me down their own path and made a fun story.

I actually wish there was a bit more to this game. Maybe each slime type has different attributes or something. Maybe some random tables or something like that. Instead, it was left entirely up to my imagination and I wasn't really sure where to go with it.

In the end, I had a fun story about slime living in an old abandoned mine-shaft. With a terrible flooding problem and a recurring group of pesky adventurers.

I had fun, but don't know that I'll play again. I bought 2 bags of Skittles for this game. I may end up just giving me kids the 2nd bag.
