We've seen lists of small-yet-deep games, but what about their opposite? What games take up a lot of space and or time and yet provide an incredibly shallow experience offering few interesting decisions?

Hope you brought an extra table, because you'll need it for even the base version of this monstrosity. There are seventy-four different decks you have to make room for, as well as player boards and tableaus, and a big ol board. Once you've got it unloaded and set up, however, you're in for a long session of a whole lot of nothing. You'll creep around the board, interacting little, seeing how much amusement you can get out of recycling the same three or four quotes from the TV show. You'll draw random cards and do random things and eventually someone will win and then you can pack the whole thing up again. What's the opposite of shiny? Dull.

Absolutely gorgeous game.

Absolutely boring to play..... Your decisions seem painfully obvious/meaningless and the game turns into a slog fest where folks gang up on the leader until someone stumbles to victory.

Might be good for pre-teens....

Luckily, real life does not resemble this game (long, boring, and few meaningful decisions).

Beautiful large board.

Interesting and vast topic.

Roll and move game where you often don't even choose what's happening, just drawing cards and letting them 'tell you'.

'tell you' even takes away from the potential 'learning experience' it could have provided.

Gigantic, cards, chits, and that board, let's play!

Move here, draw a card, roll dice.

15 minutes later, my turn again!

Move to the outer limits or whatever it is called. Do nothing but spend my turn to close the gate.

You can almost feel the palpable excitement.

I actually enjoy this game when I am in the mood for it, but it is definitely not deep. You are pretty much just along for the ride. While the decisions you make do affect the outcome, there is really no way of telling what a good or bad decision is.

Given that this is the perfect example of fun trash-talking American style games, this game is huge and fun for the first couple of games. After that the veneer comes off and it is mostly luck of the draw and dice rolls. While I did own this game back in my 'ohhh shiny' period of purchasing games it was quickly traded/given/burned/whatever away.

I have not played the expansions but I think they just add more of the same.

Even if you like the game the box is huge, the footprint is even bigger for a roll and move, card resolve, test skills kind of game.

It's 'big' in the sense that it straddles our hobby like a colossus, but, for me, although there are many decisions to make none of them are interesting. I find the game crushingly dull, and I bitterly regret every hour I've spent trying to love it.

I respect those who do love it, and I recognise its design excellence, and I normally love Euros. I wonder if there's anyone else who feels the same?

Plastic minis depicting mythological critters! Resources! Expansion! Development!

And a combat system that's basically rock-paper-scissors, lengthened by several dice rolls.

Ha! Now I've got an impressive army to defend my realm! What? I can only send one guy into combat at a time? And I have to guess which guy you're sending against me? OK, I'll send my dragon - the baddest bad-ass of them all! Who do you send? Your dragon-slayer, oh.

Flip a card, roll some dice. Maybe add a card, maybe discard a card to add a die to the roll.

Defeat the henchmen, defeat the boss. Except for maybe 2 or 3 scenarios that have a different objective.

Rinse, wash, repeat x2000.

I bought everything for the game. Played through half. Shelved it for two years. Tried to finish it. I just can't. Monotonous. Tedious. Boring.

So much potential. So disappointing. No I will not try the versions that came out after this one.

This enormous box is big enough to fit the board...but it's too big for everything else. Once you open the box and take out the board, you're faced with an insert for 3 (small) card piles and 8 dice. I like this game (mostly because it's Batman), but after seeing the box:board ratio of Dominant Species, there's no reason Cryptozoic couldn't put an extra fold in the board in order to condense the box.

Again, I do have fun playing this game, but it takes up far too much shelf space for what it offers. I wouldn't mind tossing the box once I find a better storage alternative.

The entire game boils down to "testing" one of your skill levels, and yet surprisingly, it is the same for every skill: Roll dice. Try to get successes. If you don't you have to spend a turn redoing what you just did.
