Dave had a new map that we got to try out! You could only use your starting ship if you built in a port city. On the last turn of the game, Corinna added multiple colonists that combined with her Mars cards to win the game.
(I looked for a "heavy sigh" sound effect -- that's the sound most of us were making throughout the game -- but couldn't find anything that really did it justice.)
Brian wanted me to teach him Herbaceous since he was gracious enough to lend me his KS copy a while back. Boy this one is gorgeous. We played two 3p games with Ross, one with just the regular cards and another with the "flavor pack" expansion. As you can see, not a big difference in scores from Game 1 to Game 2.
I "taught" Ross (there isn't a whole lot to teach in this game) and we played a thinky game. He played as Pan (additional way to win: jump down to ground level from 2 stories up) and I played as Demeter (additional build as long as it's not in the same space as your first build). There are people in the BGG forums complaining about Pan being OP, but we didn't think it was that bad. Our game lasted quite a while and we got lots of buildings out. (P.S. I might have to start packing my painted Santorini minis along with my metal coins! Or bring a second unicorn poo so I can play as unicorn poo.)
Lost Cities was nearby so we grabbed it. Dave had recently sleeved it (maybe that's why it was out?). We played three rounds. I had a great first round, but Ross won the other two and edged me out by ONE POINT overall!!
Love the expansion stuff. You can add "catch-up" dice to the pyramid and modify your betting tiles to get slightly more control (still pretty chaotic). Green came from way behind to win it all -- in fact I think several of us had bet on green to come in last overall. Oops.
