As time has become a commodity at home, I have found myself moving further away from certain things. Unfortunately, one of those things has been the Eclipse Chat League. I have loved my time with all of you over the last 2.5 years, but as poor lorna had to even remind me that this week was my week, I feel it is a telling sign that I should probably move on.

So with that being said, I bid adieu. I will maintain my subscriptions and might pop in occasionally, but with so much divided interests and discussions going on, it is tough to maintain any level of ongoing commitment here.

Thus begins the long goodbye.

To that end, GCL Eclipse members may from time to time request that nonmember posters refrain from commenting in the discussion lists for reasons that may include aggressive or confrontational commentary, disruptive or irrelevant discourse, and overly frequent or habitual posting without first requesting and being granted membership.

Thank you for respecting these guidelines in our place of regular discussion. We hope the discussion we create here is rich, informative, and, most of all, fun for members and nonmembers alike.

What is the longest boardgame you have ever played?

Once I played a learning game of Arkwright with the some of the slowest players in the entire universe. The learning game took forever. Nearly. Or at least it felt like forever.

What is the longest game you own?

RAF is such a fantastic gaming simulation of the Battle of Britain. I absolutely love it. It covers 40 days of bombing. Players can play just one day at a time if they want, with each being about 45 minutes a day.

I'll let you do the math.

What is the longest-named game you own?

A recent acquisition: Supply Lines has been a really neat abstract simulation revolving around Supply Lines. It's neat, but what a bonkers name.

What is the longest amount of time you have had an unplayed game?

I'm reeeeeeeally good at getting games played, except for the ridiculously niche ones that are hard to get by. German Rails from Winsome is one of those I still have yet to get played. July of last year to today.

Highlights of games played 3/21-4/3:

The past two weeks I've only played 15 games - and on only four occasions.

Jump Drive (Joe=50) and Neos (Joe=50) - I've actually made it to _52_ games played 50+ times - and I still haven't turned 50...

Wind the Film! (Joe=7) - Had my first flat game of this - I suspect I was a bit too tired and teaching poorly, which certainly didn't help.

Colony (Joe=7) - With this play, I have now played every game I own at least 7 times. And - more importantly - convinced myself that Colony stays, which was why I had it in my bag. Unfortunately, as usually happens, a game being redeveloped is more keeping me from playing either version than causing more play, which is why I was checking.

Gads Hill 1874 (Joe=23) - Note that I count plays of Gads Hill and Old Town together, since they're the same game. Though - I'm coming to feel that Gads Hill - oddly enough, with the expansion - might be the best version of the game.

WOO (Joe=2) - This is just Schnapsen - I have no idea why it has it's own entry on BGG.

Codenames: Authors & Games (Joe=33) - I do enjoy playing with these cards. Wish we could have played with the author side...

March was really light for gaming - just too many busy times on weekends, unfortunately.

Acquired:

First, I picked up the game that rocked my world in February from our FLGS when they got a few extra copies - Scythe is mine.

I also won a raffle at a fundraising event that had a board game theme, so took home a couple I already had (they'll make good gifts) and these new ones:
Sushi Go!
Among the Stars
Blood Bowl: Team Manager – The Card Game
InStructures

Played:

Here's what I played 3/1 - 4/3:

Sushi Go! 2
Buffalo 1
Pandemic: The Cure 1
A Question of Scruples 1
Superfight 1
Telestrations 1

The aforementioned event had tables with quick games being hosted, and the idea was to go station to station collecting something from each gamemaster. (They were all playwrights and the games were tied to their creative processes.) So that's how I tried a couple new party games (Buffalo, Superfight) and powered through a couple old ones even if I'd rather not (Scruples, Telestrations).

 N/A   New York Slice
 7.5   Grand Austria Hotel
N/A   Tavarua NEW! a game about surfing, a little bit of push your luck. I think it might be fun with more than 2 palyers.
N/A   Watson & Holmes Seeing a lot of games with sherlock themes. This one has similar feeling and play to Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: The Thames Murders & Other Cases only it has a competitive mechansm
 7   Lancaster
N/A   Fugitive x2 NEW! a kickstarter game, 2 player deduction, pretty simple mechansm, the presentation is good but I'm worried the simplistic guessing will get old
 N/A   Don Quixote x2 NEW!
N/A   SPY x2 NEW! this is actually a clever little puzzle from the Pack o Games series. Has a significant memory component though
N/A   Mondo NEW! Had been wanting to try this real speed ttile laying game. It's pretty simple.
N/A   Di RenjieNEW! was able to cross this off my unplayed list. Another famous sleuth and card game based deduction

So there are just a few new to me games since my last update.

Brew Crafters-Technically, this was my second play, but it was the first time going beyond the base game by adding in some modules. I wasn't a fan of the vanilla game, but the modules really opened it up. It's a very tight economic game with some interesting resource management. Balancing engine building and getting income is just as tight in this as in Agricola.

Watson & Holmes was the next new to me game, and I really enjoyed it. I was feeling like something different than the usual euro fare, so I was glad when Lorna invited me to try this. I really enjoyed playing a story based deduction game, even though I fell victim to chasing red herrings in both cases we played. It left me interested in picking up Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective.

Lancaster was my next game, one which I've been looking to play for a while as I am a big Matthias Cramer fan, and this was his only big box game I had not played. When it went on sale on Amazon for $21, it was an easy purchase as I figured I could resell it. I went into the game knowing it could be very mean, which it indeed was, and I was one of the main recipients of that meanness, and it was a blast. There is a lot to do and not nearly enough time to do it. I love the voting mechanism as as a large source of possible points in a game.

Colosseum was my last new to me game as I have enjoyed watching development of the new edition. Normally trading/negotiation won't appeal to me, but this game did it well. I like that tiles collected by players are open information and so are the programs that each player has, which really streamlines the trading process as I can quickly look for the tiles I need, see who has them, guess if they want them, and then figure out what they will want in exchange. I also really like how the money is tight at the beginning of the game, but opens up really fast as it moves on. Solid game.
