I got to Level Up once to twice a month. Best game store in town. Prices are great and so is the selection. Plenty of gaming space with a separate space reserved for CCG so board games always have room. The events I make here are their monthly events which generally have 10 to 20 people I would guess. Some are bigger if there are special deals or tournaments.
Note: I'm spoiled when it comes to game stores. I also have Fantasy flight game center which I consider the most family friendly game store. Super bright. Nice tables, Great food (and beer), 400+ demo games. Just fantastic. I have more friends at level up these days so I find myself there more.
Speaking of Spoiled. My son (to avoid adjusting the age every year I'll just say born 2005) is a huge gamer. Loves learning new games. He is well known around town as a kid that adults don't mind playing with. He doesn't win strategy games a lot but he tries and he does well.
Favorite games are Carcassonne, Formula D and Small World. On the crazy hard games (Food Chain Magnet) he will sometimes team with me but these days that is rare.
Having a child who suffers from ADHD and High anxiety I find that board game time is a great way to help him learn to manage these things. If you ever want to talk about working with children with these types of issues I have two of them and I'm more than happy to talk. Every child is different but often talking to other parents going through similar challenges can help. I have a few friends who have children with ADHD and Autism.
Let's see...the first Friday of every month is a group we rarely miss. This is a group of close friends I use to work with and their friends. This party leans towards party games and coops but finds itself with the occasional game of Power Grid or Kemet. This group started as a New Years party that I've been running since 1998 when I got married and moved to the area. About 5 years ago it expanded to a monthly party.
An ever growing group this party usually sees 15 to 30 people.
This is a group of gaming friends. Smaller party than the Friday party. This one isn't as much for my family as it is for me. I try to make it when I can (probably 50% of the time). Much heavier games played here.
I was lucky at my current job and found a group to play with. We only meet Quarterly but we get to play some great games. Through this group I have been introduced to Through The Ages, Power Grid, Eclipse and more.
Some of that more isn't good. My two least favorite games were found here in Diplomacy and A Game of Thrones Second Edition. No group is perfect.
Side note: I got to play my first game of Watch the Skies with a team from this group. Go Brazil. Look up Watch the skies Mega Game if you don't know what I'm talking about.
Have I mentioned I'm lucky. My parents raised me on Spades, Scotland Yard, Axis and Allies, Outdoor Survival, Mouse Trap, and so many more. I never knew I was raised a gamer it's just what I always knew.
My wife and children are often included in my gaming and my parents live near by. My mom has tried everything from King of Tokyo and Pandemic to Le Havre and Dungeon Petz. Her favorites right now are Mystic Vale, Tokaido and Kanagawa.
