Going to be burning a bunch of old lists and starting over, or condensing.

We have not a lot of space, and limited money. Going to list the ones either I know I or we want, or there's a very high interest in, with at least two reasons why the game would be a good fit.

The medium, to medium light, to light ones, and quick, are likely the best options, because they are easier to pick back up when you semi slowly play variety and take awhile to get back to something.

There are exceptions.Especially sensory games, visual, tactile . . Various IP, but they have to have other reasons we'd put up with relearning. Like being really good.

I like tile laying, and modular boards, and mazy pathy, and exploring, but those don't have to all be in one. Some are often found in combination, but interesting games are made otherwise, too. Network and route building fall in here, kind of.

I actually haven't tried enough things to know.

Both of us like tableau building, the few we've tried. Co ops, though if they have some alpha player preventing that might be good. Not necessary for the right game.

Multi-use cards, is interesting too, though there needs to be other things.

Bidding and auctions are usually a turn off, because they feel like a way around a design problem. They feel commonly used, when the designer can't figure out something else. And,,also, because they aren't always the most thoughtful fully done. However, it's not an automatic no . . . .but there needs to be a reason it's there.it needs to work, in the game. I'm not so picky on most things, this specifically, but this has been my feeling watching plays, and the few I've played.

Visual and tactile sensory. Probably why tile laying is a like.

If there were a good Dragon game, that didn't take forever, yeah. If it involved one or more of the other things I mentioned . . .even more yeah.

We try to go for hour or less games, but it's not required. We bust out Above and below oftener than any other medium game, but it is a special beast. It takes us up to two hours, sometimes . . .usually 80, but occasionally longer. So for the right game . . .

Things that appeal to my husband and daughter are a plus. He likes storytelling, narrative games, especially.

My daughter has enjoyed King of Tokyo and, surprisingly, Above and Below. She enjoys Fluxx, and wants Doctor Who Fluxx. She never wants games.

My husband wants the new Firefly game that I think comes out January 4th, Browncoats and Brigands. It's co ops, so there's a small chance my daughter might play. Firefly isn't her thing, but it's ours.

The Dragonholt game is one we might, might be able to get her into, she has shown a bit of interest in dog stuff before. I've read enough to know what this actually is.

Rhino Hero might scratch the Kenya itch for her, and be quick enough for her. Animal upon Animal has been another I've wondered about in this vein. She will sit and play this type.

There's a few others listed on the list, I've made a mini list in the header . . .

Arydia is an open world, campaign based, cooperative fantasy role playing game in a box (for 2-4 players). The game of Arydia is built on four design pillars: Exploration, Progression, Combat, and Roleplaying.

Exploration
Arydia is an open world to explore as you wish. You will make your way across the world map, discovering new locations, interacting with memorable characters, fighting vicious monsters, and scavenging long-lost treasures. The world will pull you in through detailed descriptions and vivid artwork for each place you visit. Every location is unique (not a set of reusable tiles) and is built piece by piece as you explore.

Progression
Arydia is meant to be played as a campaign, over the course of a number of game sessions. Everything you do in one game session, carries over to the next. As you play, the game keeps track of your actions and decisions. Your characters will grow in power, collecting new items, weapons, and skills. NPCs and locations will change, depending on how you interact with them. All of this progression is done using a simple, but powerful, index system.

Combat
Many of the locations you’ll visit in Arydia are hostile - and you’ll need your weapons, skills, and cooperation to defeat the challenges you encounter! Arydia features a tactical, co-operative combat system. Enemies are controlled by game cards and dice, while you and your companions work together to overcome them.

Roleplaying
You will take on the roles of a wide cast of characters as you encounter them throughout your journeys. You will step into the shoes of a disgruntled shop owner, sniffling brat, or a poorly-dressed bandit leader. The incentive-based role play system encourages you to engage in dramatic storytelling, without being intrusive.

All of this, and more await in Arydia: The Paths We Dare Tread!

Looks great.

I was interested in Reef, but seeing the components it's a no. The box is gorgeous, and the description talks about whoever builds the best, most beautiful reef, but the shape and style of the pieces looks not Federline, or ocean ish at all, and in fact look like a funky version of those large, hollow plastic beads toddlers put together and pull apart.

I get the function over form issue, if that was a big reason, because a lot of branching coral pieces could be a visual mess. I was picturing a nicely done tile of some type, with different colors and types of coral on them. Without the box or game name, you would have no idea this was ocean related. If they say the word coral on the card, that is purely marketing.

In my opinion.

There is a disconnect between the outside of the box, and the contents, for me. Abdul, the box is fancier than the contents, but looking at those contents, the connection is great, goes with the box and theme.

I know not every abstract can have as much theme feeling as some others, but I feel reef could be played with anything stackable that is distinguishable by color and shape. You could substitute anything generic that fits that, and it would feel the same as the game did to me watching the video. The only thing less connected would be non generic stuff, with a theme like space or steampunk. Or buttons. There are lots of cool ones out there, that theme may not appeal to as many as reef, but the contents of the game, are disconnected from that. I don't care how they ocean up the boards and cards, if the shape probably stays as is for the pieces, as has been indicated, besides being a huge no for me, I think they might be surprised at it's reception, given the comparison to Azul, and that this Plan B line is supposed to be aesthetically pleasing, or something like that. If the theme was different, like a toy shop or something, then yes, maybe. Or some other childhood thing.

This has me cautious about future releases, in a line and imprint I am interested in. For me, this doesn't fit what they said Plan B was for.

I know components and stuff aren't final, but they did say the shape was probably staying as is. I would rather be stacking fruits in a fruit salad game.

Dc comics Mighty Meeples

Been almost impossible to find locally, so much so that, despite being a die hard DC fan, especially the women and Wonder Woman, I might not bother trying to get these if they are going to be that difficult.

I wanted it to be the casual small purchase,a pack or two at my game store, not runner by to three or four stores, most of which are farther than we can regularly get to, to find them, and even at that, they were sold out, and they sold me a few scuffed demo ones.

Basically, I would have to shell out thirty or forty now, for a bunch of packs at once, should I ever be able to find that many, and my husband's work is drastically cutting his pay . . .so, this is what happens with an exclusive distribution of an item like this. Unless all things like this are exclusive. Are Cryptozoic games exclusive? Anyway, I'm really annoyed.

As a casual, ten dollars or less ish purchase, it works. Quadruple that, plus the big search, and it doesn't, plus I don't get out much, on extended shopping trips. Shorter is better with my leg pain.

On to more important things

Theme, doctors and companions, timey wimey cards, dice . . .two hours. Cooperative, but one can maybe get there first for bragging rights. You know how those Doctors are.

6/8/17 apparently 10 and 5 removed to a 5-6 player expansion, to follow the game, which will ship in August, with k 9 now in the first print run and Mario fifty on game, twenty-five on expansion, fifteen on single doc expansion s later.

Looks like it'll fit in that light ish but something to it, zone, that I am looking for, that tends to get played more around here, games that are easier to learn, but more importantly, easier to pick back up after a a long time in rotation as we tend to play variety, at a very slow pace, so it can be awhile before we get back to something.

Games like this are more likely to get played, and bought, and less huge hump to get over to buy than, say, something medium weight, more complicated like Dragonfire. That one may only make it because of wanting D anD I for two forever, being based on a proven game engine, the customizability, and several other things. D and D alone for two, isn't enough, because being a more medium weight game it'll have a higher threshold of stuff to it. It has to have a lot going for it to justify a place in our apartment, for the way we play things.

Getting pickier isn't a bad thing. I might make a few exceptions in order to try game mechanisms we haven't tried, because we won't know or learn our prefix we don't try them. But if we wait long enough, New to us mechanisms may come along in games that we want for a host of other reasons.
