Some of the greatest games I have ever played have got such extensive rules so that I sometimes felt like a drooling goldfish. Not always because of the difficulty of the games, but also because of confusing explanations or the extent.

Here are my Top 5 games with complex and partly long rulebooks, which made me dispair.

#5 - Legends of Andor

Andor was one of my first strategy games I have ever played. My best friend bought this game when we spent some time with other friends in our city. After my first play I was realy confused, because I had no idea what I am doing here. Many items, strength, resistance, special abilities and different ways to solve the legend. My favourite question at my first game was like: "And now? What should I do?" . After some other plays, I realize, that the game is quite easy and I love the system. It is one of my favourite games up to now.

#4 - Village

I played this game with my girlfriend at first when we arrived from our vacational trip. It was cruel. We were tired and I scanned the rules like my homework at school (you can imagine how). But no matter, I was interested in this game and also hot to play it. The first game was bumpy and we finished it after 30 minutes without a seriously ending. I was a little bit disappointed.

A few weeks ago I played this game again and now I checked the rules quicker than even before. Jesus, why I was so gronky the last time? Take a cube, make your move and let your people die, but be careful with the generations (shortest description ever). After we finished the game, I think this it's a cool game, but it won't be one of my favourite games.

#3 - Robinsone Crusoe: Adventure on the cursed Island

A very humorous and diversified game, where I had some problems at the beginning. I realy love the different tactics, fights against animals and survival mechanism.
After I was faced with the challenges of building a shelter, finding food, fighting wild beasts, and protecting ourselves from weather changes, I was a little bit overhelmed. I like the story of Robinson Crusoe and the athmosphere, when you fight to survive and escape from the island.

#2 - Terra Mystica

Terra Mystica was my first strategy game I have ever played. The different to the games I played before (Settlers of Catan, Monopoly, Cluedo etc.) was amazing. I played it the first time maybe 5 years ago. We read out the rules and tried to play the game according to the rules. We don't understand the background or the strategy of this game so we finished it early (to my regret). I have never played the game till then, but I read some news and articles here at bgg and I am curious to play Terra Mystica again!

#1 - Junta

First, Junta is a pretty nice game, which could end in an outbreak of insults.

But Jesus Christ, the only thing I can say, when I listened to the rules is: snore cry zombie

A freind read out the rules from page 1 to ...I don't know, where we ended at all. Page by page, every word. Our first game contained 4 to 5 hours (incl. rules). Some passages of the rulebook was confusing and in my oppinion inconvenient. By the way the rules are not as difficult as it seems. Okay the little particularities are partly tricky and you need some time to perceive the whole rules, but this is not a big problem.
