The UK Games Expo is nearly here again! (at the NEC Birmingham, 2nd-4th June) I love going through the BGG lists for GenCon and Essen, and I thought I'd get in touch with the exhibitors at the UKGE and see if I could throw something together here. This isn't my personal anticipation list, I asked everyone what they'd like to tell you about, and here it is.

The stand numbers for the publishers relate to this Hall 1 map: http://www.ukgamesexpo.co.uk/images/expo/hall1.jpg

There are a lot of pages to go through! If you're trying to find something in particular, clicking "Titles Only" and searching for it might help

OR you can use the fantastic Tabletop Together tool here: https://tabletoptogether.com/tool/ Peter first made it for Essen last year and now has expanded it to work with this list too! It's a great way to make your own list of interests for the Expo

It's not an exhaustive list for a few reasons:
- I'm not W. Eric Martin
- I probably missed some people out when going down the exhibitors list
- Exhibitors are still being added as the event comes closer
- Not everyone I emailed got back to me

Whatever the reason, if you're an exhibitor and you should be on here let me know and I'll get more games added. And if I'm wrong on anything get in touch too and I'll sort it out.

Oh, and I do a YouTube. You might like it. youtube.com/c/slickerdrips

I also seem to have developed a strange cough whenever I mention a game I've made a video for. Very strange.

Take gaming to a whole new scale with Fishy Tactics - you'll be hooked!
An easy to learn, quick to play, 2-4 player board game of fish, fun and tactics for ages 4+.

"This lake ain't big enough for the 2-4 of us!" Quarrelling fishermen try to outmanoeuvre each other to catch the best fish for their tea. Some fish are more valuable than others, but will your line reach? Or will someone swipe your prized whopper from your haul? Oh and watch out for the crocodile!

Players take it in turns to 1) spin the spinner and move the crocodile one space along the grid and remove any fish it lands on from the game and then 2) roll the fisher's die (regular d6) and move any one fish on the grid x number of squares toward them. If the fish reaches your basket it's yours!
Rolled a 6? Instead of moving a fish, select a player and steal blind one fish from their haul.

Play finishes when the last fish leaves the lake - and the player with the most points of fish in their boat at the end of the game wins!

A map-making, tile-laying adventure for the whole family. Evolving as you play, what might start off as an all-against-all race to the prize might turn into a co-operative challenge, with players needing to work together to navigate the traps and get to the treasure.

1-8 players take on the role of pirate cartologists (map makers) who've washed ashore on the revered "Scuttler's Island". But alas! All the directions to the long lost booty have come off in the salt water!

Players take it in turns to draw a tile and extend their path, sabotage a rival's or lay down an item token to overcome an obstacle. The first player(s) to reach the X in the middle with an uninterrupted path wins!

With 1 cloth map, 36 item tokens, 144 map tiles and over 999 million possible map variations - no two games are the same!

Pyramid of the Sun is a 2-4 player game that plays in 10-20 minutes. Simple rules, fast gamplay, and gorgeous art make it a perfect light strategy game for friends and family!

Pyramid of the Sun follows a very simple turn structure: on your turn you either play cards from your hand, or draw 2 cards. Playing cards allows you to score points. As the pyramid grows taller, you have an opportunity to score more and more – but the higher the possible score, the fewer spaces you have to play your cards.

If you want to win, you need to be smarter than your opponents: play your cards right, find the perfect time to use them, and score the most points. Outwit your friends and become the true builder of the Pyramid of the Sun!

Shadowscape is a mini dungeon crawl played on a modular board of rooms filled with monsters, treasures and traps. It takes place in the Mistfall universe, allowing players to once again take on the roles of iconic Heroes of both Mistfall and Heart of the Mists. Move, plot and fight competitively, cooperatively or solitaire, in a fast and furious mini dungeon crawler of epic proportions!

Each game is played on a five-by-five grid of dungeon room cards, randomized before every game. Players start by choosing their Heroes and placing their tokens in the corner rooms of the dungeon. Each Hero comes with their own set of four double-sided Action Cards placed on the table in front of the player.

During your turn, you will use two of those cards, performing Actions like attacking monsters (but not other Heroes), searching through rooms, moving or preparing for the next rounds. After using an Action Card, you will flip it to the other side, featuring a different Action.

Each Action can be boosted by using the Boon effects from any number of Fate Cards from your hand. Fate Cards are drawn from a common Fate Deck at different points of the game (usually when using the Prepare Action). But Fate Cards can also be used for their alternative Bane effect, which allows you to move monsters, make unexpected changes to the layout of the labyrinth, or snatch treasures from other players.

Each turn will end with the active player drawing one Fate Card for its third and final effect: monster spawn and movement. This is also the time when most monsters will be able to attack the Heroes, dealing damage some of which can be easily soaked, while other have to be placed on their Action Cards, making them unavailable until the Hero is healed.

This War Without an Enemy is a 2-player strategic block wargame on the first English Civil War. One player controls the Royalist forces fighting for the King, while the other controls both the English Parliamentarian troops and their Scottish allies, the Covenanters.

Although based on the same system as Hammer of the Scots and Crusader Rex, This War Without an Enemy adds a number of innovations in order to faithfully simulate both the warfare of the mid-17th century and the unique nature of this conflict that engulfed not only England but also Scotland and Ireland. The game features individual cards deck for each side, two thirds of which contain events. The card decks are adjusted from year to year to reflect the historical progression of the war. The regional nature of much of the conflict is recreated using a system of Leader and Regional blocks as well as rules for regionally-based recruitment. The usual block game mechanics for field battles have been modified with special rules for artillery, cavalry and infantry, while a completely new system has been designed for storming and sieges.

While the Parliamentarians start the game with a slight advantage in terms of control of cities, the Royalist have both higher quality troops and more cavalry. However, the Parliamentarians will receive more reinforcements during the game as the Covenanters become allies, while the creation of the New Model Army will both improve the quality of their forces and increase their strategic flexibility. The object of the game is to acquire Victory Points through the capture of cities held by the opponent. In addition, the Parliamentarians can move closer to victory by capturing the King, represented by his own block.

In Carcosa, you will summon forth the home of the Tattered King, one tile at a time. You will use your cultists to control leylines, conduct rituals and influence the districts of Carcosa itself. If they displease you, you can sacrifice them to the dark waters of Lake Hali for the pleasure of the King.

Each player leads a Lovecraftian Cult, taking turns using their Prophet to select a tile representing section of Carcosa from the Cult Board and adding it to the growing magnificent landscape of ritual sites, leylines, towers and domes. Players can then deploy Cultists to control a leyline, conduct a ritual or influence the districts they have just summoned.

But Carcosa is no normal city! You must stabilise your summoned tiles with power drawn from leylines or they may be reshaped by other cults! Recruit more Cultists by conducting the Forbidden Play at theatres you summon! Send your Cultists to gather power and watch them be driven mad by the terrible secrets! Use your Oracles to spend power on game-changing spells! Sacrifice your Cultists to the horrific Avatars of the King!

The game will end either when a Cult gathers enough power to conduct the final summoning of the King in Yellow or enough tiles are placed such that Carcosa becomes a permanent feature of our Earth and the Cult with the most power seizes control. Only one Cult can succeed in these insane tasks - but in Lovecraft’s mythos, can one truly call that winning?

In 1919, the US Government declared the production, distribution, and sale of alcohol illegal. America officially became a ‘dry’ land.

That didn’t stop people from drinking, however, and the rise of the ‘speakeasy’ offered huge new opportunities for organized crime. Soon, cities both large and small became battlegrounds as various crime syndicates vied for control of the underground alcohol trade. In Mad Dogs With Guns, players form their own small gangs of fedora-wearing, tommy gun-wielding gangsters and battle it out with their rivals. With numerous different gangs to choose from, including cops and G-men, a fully integrated campaign system, and rules for special situations such as car chases, the game offers a huge variety of tactical challenges. Bribe public officials, attend a gangland funeral, but always watch your back - there is always another gang waiting to poach your territory...

"You shall be rewarded if your tale amuses me."

The eccentric king issued the edict to all over the country. You are a bard who is willing to take up that challenge. You have to make up a tale by mixing stories in the world and enchant the king with the tale.

With beautifully illustrated 22 tarot cards with four background colours, this card game demands you make a succession of tough decisions. You will be excited to see how the storyline barely keeps consistency.

Basically, you play a card from two cards in your hand each turn. When you have played all cards, the first round ends and you score according to the card positions. With some of these cards remaining in play, the game proceeds to the second round in the same way. The total of two rounds is your final score.

4 Seasons
For Sale
Designer: team SAIEN

4 Seasons is a two-player card game that plays in 15 to 20 minutes. Each player fights over four categories — pure, dawn, spiral, and faith — that correspond to four colors; there are 12 cards with the value 1-3 in each category, and the cards are dealt so that each player has a mix of the same value cards in their deck, with some cards being secretly removed from play.

On a player's turn, they present two cards from their hand face up. The opponent takes one of those cards and places it on their side of the board, adding to their power in that category; the other card is added to the score for that category at the end of the game. Players alternate turns until all of the cards have been distributed, then players see who has the most strength in each category. The winner of a category wins all the points in that category, and whoever collects the most points wins the game.

In Candy Match, players place cards depicting one to three sweets. As soon as a player finds a card combination in which all the candy depicted is in pairs, they call "Candy match" and show their solution. If the symbol pairs are correct, the player receives all the cards involved in the matches; if they're wrong, each other player takes one card from the center of the table. Once the draw pile is exhausted and no more combinations can be found, the game ends and the player with the most points wins.

Masses of people awaiting a spectacle… scorching afternoon heat… sweaty equine bodies nervously yanking their harnesses. There it is, the starting signal!

Dashing ahead with your chariot, slowly at first, but quickly gaining speed… circling the spina in the center of the arena to complete the first lap. The next corner comes closer. Glancing back, one of the chariots is already far behind, and just ahead another chariot's speed is too high for the corner, sending the vehicle crashing into the wall and out of the race. Only a single chariot blocks your path to victory, so it's time to get uncivilized. Steadily you balance the javelin in your hand, waiting for the other charioteer to come into view…or should you just overtake him and throw caltrops in his path?

In Chariot Race, players participate as charioteers in a great race in ancient Rome. Use the dice to complete two laps on the dusty arena's circuit and be the first to steer your chariot over the finish line. On a player's turn, if they have gained enough Favors of Fortuna, they can repair their chariot. Depending on the chariot's speed on the previous turn and its current condition, the initial speed is determined, which defines how many of the five dice will be rolled during the turn. Each face of the six-sided dice allows a different action: Gain new Favors, increase or decrease speed, change lanes, or attack opponents (either directly by hurling javelins or indirectly by dropping caltrops in their path). if the first roll is not satisfactory, the player may call on Fortuna to influence the dice, as long they have her favor. Once the result is set, the player moves their chariot forward according to the final speed they achieved and may then take actions against their rivals.

However, breakneck racing and ramming are not without risk. If two chariots collide, they both take damage, and cornering at a wild gallop is not recommended. The further the safe speed is exceeded, the more damage is caused to the vehicle – which might fall apart in the middle of the arena if the driver is too careless, resulting in their elimination from the race.

Build your own town in Design Town! In this deck-building game, you have no hand at all; instead, you play cards directly from the top of your deck. Winning the game requires delicate strategies...and some luck as well!!

A turn consists of two phases: card playing and building.

• Players play cards directly from the top of their deck and may choose to continue unless they have three cry-face icons in play, which ends their turn immediately. When they choose to stop, they move to the building phase.

• During the building phase, a player can use the coins gained from their previously played cards to buy a new card or to upgrade a card in their personal discard pile. To upgrade a card, pay the cost and flip it over; upgraded cards remain in the discard pile.

Since all cards in this game are double-sided, be careful not to flip them over accidentally when placing cards into your discard pile or when shuffling your deck. Whenever a player gains eight or more VP during a single card playing phase, that player wins immediately!

This edition of Design Town consists of the original Design Town from Homosapiens Lab as well as the Design Town: Reuse expansion that adds two more double-sided cards to the game.

Deep in the forests of the North lives an enchanting elf tribe called the Frogriders. Each spring, they hold a tournament in which their four major squads perform a mock battle. Whoever best manages to capture valuable units and make clever use of their special abilities will take the victory!

Frogriders is a tactical family game in which you collect the custom-molded plastic figures by making them leap over one another. Each of the collected Frogriders enables you to keep it for scoring or return it to the tribe's village in order to use its special ability. Due to the many different privilege cards and several scoring cards (of which only a few are used each game), there are a lot of tactical nuances to discover and many strategies to employ to win at Frogriders!
