So, next weekend is expo again. And we are only going for one day. But on the plus side I am not driving, but getting a lift, which should save me some spoons.

Hoping to take a largish amount to the Bring & Buy, possibly arranging some sales in advance.

This geeklist is to help me remember what to visit and what to pick up.

Demo
By Frédéric Henry - the designer of The Builders

In Batman: The Boardgame, one super-villain faces off against a team of heroes in one of multiple scenarios. Each hero has their own character, and they control this character by spending energy to take actions, recovering more or less energy at the beginning of their turn depending on their stance. If the hero gets damaged, energy moves to a wound area, and if they lose all of their energy, then they're out of action for a while to recover their strength. Each hero has differing strengths for their abilities, and these strengths are represented by colored dice with different values; the more energy a hero spends on an ability, the more dice they can roll.

The super-villain controls a team of henchmen and villains, and these characters are represented by tiles on their control board, with the characters costing 1, 2, 3, etc. energy to activate as you move left to right down the line. Once a character is activated, they move to the end of the line, boosting their cost to the maximum value should you want to use them again immediately.

The game-play in Batman: The Boardgame is based on that of Conan, with revisions to character abilities, the addition of two different types of dice (w/ five types total), and a modified two-player set-up in which each player has a control board and their own team of tiles, with heroes facing off against villains.

The City of Games stand C3

Demo
This world used to be a garden full of life; from the flying Vadora to the deep-dwelling Dwarves – but that was before Vesh came. The world has been lost and only one city remains; the oldest city in the world – and the last refuge for all of us. Now... we fight back.

The City of Kings is a cooperative tactical roleplaying board game for 1 - 4 players in which your character is tasked with exploring the hazardous world, trading for vital resources, and battling your enemies whilst uncovering a story of a world imperiled.

You start by choosing one of seven stories, then select your hero, with each of the six heroes featuring twelve unique skills and nine customizable stats that allow you to specialize in attacking, healing, tanking, worker management, or whatever you desire. Aside from your hero, you need to manage your workers, who must gather resources in order to trade for new items and build structures to gain powerful bonuses.

You explore across the Ageless Realms by turning over tiles, discovering resources, side quests, hazards, building sites, traders and creatures as you continue to power up whilst preparing to enter Azure Rise.

At its heart, The City of Kings is a complex puzzle featuring endless strategic battles. Each creature is generated from a pool of spells, characteristics and stats offering over 10,000,000 unique battle situations. There are no dice, damage is persistent, it’s up to you to customize your characters and work together to come up with a strategy to defeat whoever stands in your way.

Pulsar 2849

New game from Vladimir Suchy - demo
Draft dice to explore the universe in Pulsar 2849. Each round, roll dice based on the number of players, sort them based on their values, then draft dice to take actions, such as adding another spaceship to your fleet or visiting (or flying through) an unexplored star system or tagging a pulsar with one of your identity rings or advancing on your personal tech track, which differs from those of other players. At the end of the round, the turn marker advances based on the dice rolled that turn, and when the market reaches the end of the track, the game ends.

Players score points each round based on what they've discovered and explored, and everyone has hidden goals that they want to achieve, while also trying to claim the right to public goals that supply additional endgame scoring.

Brutal Kingdom - this looked interesting when it was just in German. Wonder what the English version is like.

The King is dead; long live the Queen! Or vice versa, really, as in the intriguing game Brutal Kingdom it's hard to tell what everyone is up to and who will have the greatest impact until it all ends. Yes, the bishop's poison has been touched, but has it been administered to the abbot or is it still waiting to be used? What's happening with the witch? And the executioner is waiting for his next job...

At the beginning of a round, each player has four character cards in hand. On your turn, you play a card in front of you and follow its instructions. With some cards, you can carry out actions on your opponent and bring an end to the round's influence — but only if you don't fall victim to your opponent in the process.

Something to look at?
The game is played in a series of rounds. A round begins with the first player taking a turn. Each player takes their turn in order clockwise around the table. During a turn a player has two action phases available. There are three types of action phase to choose from. These are The takeoff phase (which may also include refueling, repairing and scavenging spare parts),The flying phase (which may also include gaining altitude and performing trick maneuvers), The landing phase (which may also include refuelling). In addition whenever a flying machine lands on a terrain tile any passengers that wish to will disembark), and any cargo intended for that terrain type is unloaded. It may also take on available equipment, cargo and passengers if there is space available to do so.

Players progress in the game by passing a series of takeoff, flying and landing tests. To determine the difficulty of a particular test, first look at the number of symbols for that test shown on the terrain tile that the flying machine is on. Simply add the number of symbols shown on the terrain tile to the number of symbols on the relevant weather tile. If a player needs to take a test, first check to see the total number of relevant symbols shown on the flying machine dashboard. This is the number of dice that may be rolled when attempting to obtain a sufficient number of symbols to pass the test. If the player does not roll enough symbols they may then choose to make use of special equipment, use spare parts, or play trick and boost cards to obtain additional symbols in order to pass the test. If a player is unable to obtain a sufficient number of symbols to pass the test then a failure occurs. If the dice rolled include a catastrophic failure symbol, then a catastrophic failure occurs. The effects of such a failure vary depending on the test being taken.

Board & Dice stand H2
For a long time now, Earth hasn't been a perfect place to live. You are one of the architects sent to Mars. Your objective is to set up an infrastructure for the first colonists who would arrive on the red planet and start a new chapter for mankind.

Pocket Mars is a fast paced and wildly dynamic card game but don't let the short playthrough time fool you. It's a heavy weight filler! A compressed and easy to understand
set of rules, combined with cards that you can play in more than one way is what makes this game great! Fifteen minutes is all it takes for you and your friends to set out on an exciting adventure in space!

In the world of big games about Mars everybody should have one that fits in their pocket.

Your goal is to place as many colonists as you can in the buildings of your Mars settlement. To do so, you will need to choose carefully how and when to play your cards.

The way you trigger actions on your cards is the heart of the game. Everything depends on where you play them from, which is the game's main strategic element. You could play a project card straight from your hand and trigger its effect instantly or turn it into a module and play it from your preparation zone. This will let you add it to one of the five buildings in your settlement, trigger an action sequence and transport your colonists to Mars – a sure way to put a spanner in the works of your competition.
Each card's set of various actions combined with the buildings' unique properties leaves you with a number of small but substantial decisions:

− Where to put your card.
− Where to play your card from.
− What action sequence will give you the most possibilities within a given turn.

What's more, anyone can activate an action from a module placed in one of the buildings by another player and share its effects.

From Invincible Games, ppl who run HandyCon stand G13

An innovative deck-building cider production game where players race to produce the most money from their deck-building exploits efficiently converting apples and wood into cider and barrels, all the time ensuring they don't over-stockpile and lose the actions they need.

The game plays differently to most deck-building games in two key ways. Firstly, cards in a players also serve as the resources that can be produced (Wood, Apples, Barrels and Cider) secondly, cards can be kept active drawing fewer cards each turn. Each turn, a player draws up to 5 cards, including the up to 3 currently active cards. After activating 3 cards the player chooses to discard just the remaining two cards in their hand or to discard active workers who have completed their tasks.

Each player will strive to efficiently produce cider in bottles or more valuable cider in barrels and sell it as efficiently as possible.

Mercatores

New geographical discoveries opened new possibilities and demands. The Old Continent craves New World goods like tobacco, corn, cotton, cocoa and coffee. In Mercatores players take to role of the merchants and try to make the most profit of the new market. The wealthiest player wins the game.

The game consists of two phases: invest phase and profit phase.
In invest phase, players take turns, which consists of two mandatory actions: First, player must trade with the market in the middle of the table by exchanging card in hand for two or three cards in the market. Second, player must play a card. Player can play cards in three different ways: play any number of a single good, play two cards of different goods or play a special card. After that player passes the turn to another player. When any player plays the thirteenth card in front of them, that player gets the captain card and other player can play one more round. After that game goes into profit phase. Players take turns selling their goods and using the special cards, like warehouses or ports. When all players resolve all their cards, the game ends and the player with the most points wins.
