Yesterday I got a refund on a video game because the text was in a font too tiny for my elder and infirm eyes to make out, even at the largest setting. So it goes.

Which games do I need to be wary of as time incessantly gnaws at my corneas?

(I am exaggerating. I see fine in general.)

In his latter days my father complained of "Trollopian Eyestrain", which I thought was a real thing until he explained that he'd been reading a book by Anthony Trollope with an extremely tiny font. That's my dad. But will I eventually succumb to Portellian Eyestrain, given my penchant for Portal's games and their eensy tiny text? Robinson Crusoe has a spyglass but it's 51st State and Imperial Settlers where you might need to read 0.5 point type across the table. I can only assume that in Poland everyone has incredible super-vision.

Funny you should mention Portal. We didn't buy Theseus: The Dark Orbit partly because the cards were hard to read across the table (with gratuituously weird scifi typeface adding to the fun).

Tides of Time fits in a smaller table area so we acquired it despite Portal's insistence on tiny hard to read text on their cards.

You and your opponent will be laying these on the table as the game proceeds; you want to be able to read theirs across their table as well as your own.

Mage Knight, most particularly its expansions, uses minuscule fonts in its rulebook. In order to learn the game I've resorted to printing up enlarged versions of the rulebooks.

Much like its parent game mentioned above (51st State), Imperial Settlers has some ridiculously tiny text. It's pretty much impossible to read your neighbor's cards and I'm sure some people even struggle reading their own once they're on the table.

Just so Portal isn't alone here, here's a fine, fun game with some wee small tiles with minuscule text.

For me, it is this one. The flavor text is all but impossible for me to read and made me think that I actually need reading glasses to see/read it. The text on the card that is needed, is slightly better.

There is an upcoming expansion coming to KS that I hope addresses this.

Good luck finding the cities on the north side of the board if you're sitting on the south side of the board.
