From the looks of things as we left, today was a warm, wet day. We stayed cool and dry indoors... We expected a drop in numbers thanks to teh UK Games Expo, but a decent number turned up.

This was it for me for the day. A big, involved, but relatively straightforward game, with no problems in formulating a plan from available resources and relatively few things to spoil it. The problems come from prioritising...
As it turns out I built a pretty good Terraforming engine, but, once the actual Terrforming was done, I had a pitifully poor point scoring engine and came a long, distant last in the final scoring...

Too much emphasis on science, too little in economics...

Finished the day with a 4 player game of Glory to Rome. It's a lovely game, just hard to explain, but the others did a grand job of deciphering my rules explanation. In the end it was a close run thing, and Michael edged it with some last minute accumulation of influence. Good end to a great days gaming.

(ps - I think we played the legionnaire wrong, as every one can follow, which would make for a bit of a chaotic card exchange, but entertaining!)

Memorable for the most appalling run of bad dice rolls by Adam. The look of resignation as he paid hard earned resources for another black die and rolled yet another "1" was (almost) sad to see.

Michael almost had the game, and was pipped by Craig at the very end during the final tallying up of points. Very enjoyable game, with that hallmark of the good euro; the feeling of wanting to do just one more move than you can every turn.

I was intrigued by the video of this on Shut Up and Sit Down.

I was blown away by the actual game play. Like all of the best area control games it feels like a knife fight in a telephone booth.

The abilities of the few races we played with seem balanced, I'm very intrigued to find out what the others bring to the game.

If it wasn't for my current impecuniosity I'd have ordered a copy. Play it if you can.

The guys were playing the Blood on the Nile campaign which doesn't seem to be in the database.
Cold British steel against the Sudanese natives, no idea who won though

Very tight game of this euro-style worker placement game with some negotiation and a little take that. With only a 4 point spread between 4 players victory was hotly contested!

An excellent blend of area control and card drafting. Simple mechanics but the small card pool allows players to quickly formulate strategies. In the end the Epic Tales card engine came out on top with an overwhelming and unstoppable force in the capital. This is the 2nd game where being the Brenn secured the win!
