I won't describe Scythe in any detail because I think it's been talked about since before it was released, but suffice it to say it's essentially a resource engine at its heart, where players are racing to be the first to fulfil six achievements.
I've heard that some games can be very aggressive with a lot of combat and blocking. That wasn't my experience - in fact there were only two fights in our game, both to claim the central factory, and generally we were all more focused on claiming our own achievements than attacking other players. I guess it depends on the players.
Anyway, I really liked it, but I'm a bit of a fan of Jamey Stegmaier's designs.

"Julian ran away with it by collecting a rucksack, which allowed him to steal two valuable artifacts. The attached pic shows the health charts of the players, with me (yellow) and Bence (blue) being grateful just to get out alive."
