I've got a couple of family weddings to go to this year - the first in the next generation down from me, in fact. For the first one we are just going to the post-wedding party, an informal affair; the second one however is a bit posher (though not excessively so).

So I was wondering how often you dress formally, if ever, and what your poshest clothes are like; and whether you enjoy wearing these outfits or not! What occasions do you put on your glad rags for?

What about your kids - do they ever get dressed up, do they like it or not? Has this changed over the years?

Tangentially related, by phonetics if nothing else ...... if scores are tied at the end of a game, do you prefer there to be a tiebreak or not? What's the best and worst tiebreaker you've come across?

I'd acquired this earlier in the year, waiting for an oppportunity to play it with Matthew as I thought it would appeal to him..... as I suspected, crazy combinations of factions bashing each other up is right up his street, and we played twice to check out all the cards. He then played it with a friend of his, and took it with him this afternoon to play it with some others, though in the end they didn't have time as they were busy playing D&D. Still, £4 well spent!

Smash Up x 2
Hecatomb x 2
Frank's Zoo x 1
De Beer ist Los! x 1
Boggle x 1
Fearsome Floors x 1 (a 7 player game - very congested!
Furstenfeld x 1
The Great Dalmuti x 1
Unpublished prototypes x 2

They explained everything in detail and at great length. After they finished I sat, despondent, contemplating a bleak and empty future. "I’m glad you’re depressed" said one. "It means you’ve understood the situation.”

 7.5   Knights of Charlemagne x4
9.1   Axis & Allies Air Force Miniatures: Angels 20

I've been doing a lot of gaming with the Little Fish over the last week which is no bad thing. Plenty of Loopin' Louie and a bit of other 'favourites' like Zombie Dice 2: Double Feature and Palace (Mrs Fish was introduced to Palace last night and was not impressed). Managed a bit of lunchtime gaming including the return of a former regular in our lunchtime session and we played Thor after along hiatus.

Little Fish the Elder and I went to a FLGS (again) on the weekend after soccer as his brother was at (another) birthday party. The games library at this shop had been pretty much plundered and the Wings of War: Deluxe Set was missing so instead we played Axis & Allies Air Force Miniatures: Angels 20 which is a good but sadly unsupported dogfighting game that Wizards of the Coast decided to leave to wither on the vine.

We also played, for the first time for both of us, Patchwork and I was surprised by just how good this game is - really terrific fun. We both enjoyed it (though some tokens were missing) and this is one I'd consider for purchase at some time in the future.

We were also scanning the shelves at home and broke out Hungry which Little Fish the Elder is really enjoying. Played again as a three player game with Mrs Fish and she liked it too. Overall, a good fun game that work well with children.

Still going strong on Terraforming Mars! Played a few games with the children on the weekend, and a few with my husband, but otherwise a fairly quiet week of gaming - didn't even manage all the Friday night session, as we were two hours late thanks to a concert my son was in. Apparently my youngest taught Star Realms to the babysitter while we were out!

Gaming with other adults:

 10   Terraforming Mars x3
 10   Star Realms x2
 9   6 nimmt!
 9   Incan Gold
 9   Letters from Whitechapel
 9   Lost Cities
8   Power Grid: The Card Game

Gaming with my children:

 5   Bugs in the Kitchen
 10   Dominion
 10   RoboRally

Slightly embarrassingly I posted this on last week's list, and then Robert kindly pointed out the error of my ways. So here it is again, in the right place, this time...

For the second week running I feel compelled to use the Unpublished Prototype as my game of the week. Well, it has been all about the playtesting, thanks to a playtest meetup in Oxford, an evening visit to a game designer friend, and a couple of local sessions. All good stuff...

N/A   Unpublished Prototype x7 - Some were mine, some other peoples'.
7   Downsize x3 - Going down well as a lunchtime play.

 8   HATSUDEN (ハツデン) x3 NEW!

Well, we've "moved" into our new house, but it looks like we just tipped a garbage bin upside down inside the house (while paying a lot of money to do so). It wasn't fun but it's done.

N and I did manage to play one game last week, and we liked it so much that we played it three times in a row. Continuing a string of quirky, quick and slick games from Japanese designers comes HATSUDEN, which is from the designer of the recently hot Tokyo Highway.

The ALL CAPS NAME is a little misleading as this is not a game that will shout at you/hit you over the head. It does, however, feel like the designer has studied the small games of Michael Schacht and has created a precisely balanced game with more depth than is initially apparent.

Can't wait to play it, or really any game, again.

I bought a copy of this game in Minneapolis and played two games with my wife. A fun game, even if I lost them both!

Also two games with a deck of cards, Tía and Gaur.
