There are actually some games, where it's hard work to handle the rulebook and you have to invest some hours to understand everything. In the following, there are my favourite.

Fun game for large groups, which implies lying and bluffing. When we played this game some of us had so much fun, because it was close match with ups and downs- but one of my buddies made a decision this day: "From now on I only play cooperative games, you sneaky bastard!" Sadly, he kept his promise.
The rulebook is bullshit- we felt as if it was written in old cyrillic and had to fight 3 hours until we said "Let's start playing!".

This game is a masterpiece with so many different possibilities, but there are two rulebooks with it and over 1 million rules. You are lucky, if a run of Mage Knight takes less then 6 hours. Disgusting!

When I was a young boy I played Pokemon on my gameboy. Everyday. For hours. And then there was this boardgame- a boardgame only about pokemon with a rulebook, no group of mentally retarded, aggressive boys could understand. This one is designed for children, why is the rulebook such a imposition?

This game looks like a lot of fun, but unfortunately the rule book is just a long and confusing tutorial that never puts it all together to tell you how the complete game is played.

I enjoyed this game. It has a great mechanic with the titular Impulse, and it is one of the better 4X games in my collection... HOWEVER, it took reading the rulebook three times and downloading a player guide from BGG to understand it.

Now it's been almost four years since I first and last played it. Every year that passes makes me want to play it less because I dread having to reread the rulebook and then teach it.
