8 games took part in Round 6, though only 4 of them mattered for the Championship.
The Castles of Burgundy finally defeated Power Grid in an incredibly close semi-final, knocking out the last Superseed.
Ticket to Ride showed Popularity does count when it took out tough oldie El Grande.
This sets up a Championship match where neither game has previously won Geek Madness!

Every Spring, we pit the top 64-seeded teams against each other to crown one game the Geek-Certified Aldie Award winner. This is a single-elimination tournament where the game with the most votes advances to the next round. This year we will have more than 64 (with 116 and an extra round) and we are a little late from the usual March Madness period.

You may vote for any games, whether you have owned or played them. You can vote based on any criteria that is important to you. You can cheer for your team, recruit legitimate voters, and rib the other team - just keep it moderately civil! Please feel free to comment on the games and match-ups, and most importantly, have fun!
Voting will end probably around midnight Monday 24 July.

IMPORTANT: This is meant as a fun competition. Please only vote with your main User account, i.e., ONE VOTE PER PERSON PER MATCH-UP PER ROUND. Do not create "dummy" or shill accounts to vote multiple times as those votes will be voided if discovered.

Round 4 48 Ticket to Ride defeated 1 Agricola 508-507

Round 1 14 The Castles of Burgundy defeated 107 Raiders of the North Sea 677-169

Neither of these games have won Geek Madness before, though both have been finalists. They've both shown their class in defeating great games on their way here.
Ticket to Ride has received the most votes of any game in nearly every round, but Castles arrives having just beaten Power Grid, who many thought would be winning this Geek Madness.
Tough to call.

Round 4 2 Power Grid defeated 50 Roll for the Galaxy 577-358
Round 3 2 Power Grid defeated 34 Concordia 454-367
Power Grid entered in the Last 32 stage as the #2 Super seed

Power Grid, the last Superseed in the contest and seen as a sure thing for the 2017 championship by many commenting geeks looks to get something, anything, out of the contest.
El Grande, the veteran, happy to be here and surely deserving of a re-print on this evidence?!

7 Wonders, the non-officially crowned 2015 winner, wonders where it all went wrong this time and looks to take out its frustration on Dominion.
Dominion came nowhere in the last two years so is already happy with this year (but knows that if it wins this and CoB wins the championship then it can claim a dubious 2nd place overall).

Surely the play-off that no game really wants to be contesting. But certainly that neither wants to lose.
Pandemic defeated Terra Mystica in exactly the same 7th place battle in 2015.

Geek Madness Mullings

So thanks all for participating in Geek Madness this year. We didn't reach the heights (or lows) of 2015, but its been a fun ride. Not sure if I'll take this on again, it would be great if Brian returned to run it, or someone else may do it. We'll have to see next year!

I wanted to get some feedback on how people liked the changes I brought in this year, so that if someone runs it next year they can see what they might want to adopt, return to, or just try something completely new.

Heres the changes I made (not sure this is a complete list):

1. Added a round so that more of the Wilds get in
2. Added Superseeds. Four in the end, though I considered Eight. These came in at the last 32 stage so that games didn't get crushed by them early on.
3. The Superseeds were determined by a vote in the preliminary round based on a shortlist I created. It was a pretty good selection which included both our Finalists, even though neither were voted to be Superseeds.
4. Had Polls for the voting (though Tiago had already done this in last year's Major League Boards, Geek Madness substitute) instead of thumbs
5. Didn't automatically nominate the 'unique' games in ranks 51-64 as had been done in previous years
6. Didn't really worry about policing it. No searches for shill votes, etc, but then it didn't really seem necessary this year. People seemed pretty well behaved overall.

Poll
1. Is an extra round good?
Yes, the more the merrier
No, it drags it out and just adds in no-hopers
Don't know
Whatever, I just love the contest
2. Were Superseeds a good addition?
Yes, it removed the one-sided crushings of Wilds
No, just added complexity for little gain
Don't know
Whatever, I just love the contest
3. If there are Superseeds in the future should they.... (select all you like)
Be restricted to 4
Be increased to 8 (TtR and CoB being evidence that they are needed)
Be fixed as all previous winners
Be voted on in the preliminary round
Be selected by the wise master of Geek Madness
Not have Superseeds at all - go back to Vanilla Geek Madness
Don't know
Whatever, I just love the contest
4. Should voting be by
Polls
Thumbs
Don't know
Whatever, I just love the contest
5. What should be automatically nominated/entered?
The 'unique' Top 50 entered
The 'unique' Top 64 (Top 50 entered, 51-64 nominated)
The 'unique' Top 100 (Top 50 entered, 51-100 nominated)
Don't know
Whatever, I just love the contest
6. Should the contest be policed?
Not at all
Only if needed when things look weird (e.g. many additional votes for a few pairings)
Yes, as a standard
Don't know
Whatever, I just love the contest

More Change Ideas?

This entry is a home for suggestions and discussion of any further change. For instance Samo early on suggested that we might not even automatically enter the Top 50 games:

sgosaric wrote:
How about taking top 50 games and put them on a vote - those 10 that have the least don't earn an automatic nomination. (as some really aren't that great or popular as opposed to some that just happen to be placed in bgg 50 to 200).
