5 rebels for the off-week session, Godfrey brought a selection of mostly older games suitable for the player count. These were sifted through and narrowed down, the losers were (in no particular order);
1846 - you can't fault him for trying
The Great Zimbabwe - no reason given
Hansa Teutonica - Tim dislikes
Genoa - Looked a bit dull.
Steam - so near but Swami didn't fancy it with 5
Chinatown - negotiation!
Intrigue - strangely no enthusiasm for a replay!

Just 2 players for the first few minutes so Godfrey and I played this while waiting. Excellent filler with a mix of Tetris like puzzling and some light maths.

Each player gets the number tile drawn (2 of each number 0-9 in the game) and places it in their tableau, building upwards if possible. Numbers placed on top of others score better.

Nice little warmer upper.

The main event. This is a worker placement game with the aim of colonising the new world, so there is an area control element.

Send colonists to the Americas, trade goods, build capitals, train specialists, explore new regions, quell the natives. There are multiple routes to victory

Godfrey's trade empire won in the end over my aggressive colonising but only by a few points. Swami had massive income from capitals, Tim tried to convert the natives with missionaries but ran up against Swami's army and mine. Micah tried to explore on several occasions and failed wasting precious resources.

Much discussion on the merits of the luck based explore mechanism was had. We also had a near disastrous rules issue with the combat, but we got it straightened out without undue long term implications.

An old favourite. After a 'brief' rules outline from Swami (expertly done) we kicked off some share dealing shenanigans.

Tim won comfortably while I lost by being the least charitable (serious miscalculation on my part, over generous at half time then didn't add any more).

Good fun once in a while.

To celebrate its 10 year anniversary of winning the Spiel des Jahres we broke out Mississippi Queen as it 'didn't take too long and we only had 40 minutes to closing. I hadn't played this before. Still haven't.

Sorry no photos as a red mist seemed to have fallen over the table!
