A lighter month for gaming due to great weather and the distractions that come along with that. We've had a taste (1 play) of our gaming stalwarts, but mostly concentrated our multiple plays on the newbies. Game of the month was Keltis Fun & Go which, while quite luck heavy, is fun and fast enough that it doesn't sting too much. I don't think there is much strategy in it, but more plays will tell...and meanwhile it can be a quick little game to take along for travels (on trains, airport waiting, camping etc. which is its main purpose anyway). A shade behind it is Cottage Garden which I think needs at least a few more plays to appreciate it fully, and I really want to play it alongside Bärenpark to get a better impression of how they match up. Akrotiri was...OK. I think it has potential but the other half doesn't really like the way the mechanisms mesh, and he won the first game quite easily due to the layout of the board and his goal cards which is usually a killer. He's accustomed to working for his wins . Road Hog feels like a junior version of Snow Tails so it's a little bit too light for us, and also might be better with more than 2 players, but does have great components. Despite all the hoopla surrounding it, Rhino Hero failed to impress me and I gave it away. Much more fun to play Kapitän Wackelpudding. On to the stats:
Keltis: Fun & Go
Road Hog: Rule the Road
Carcassonne: The Castle

new to me
new in our collection
July was a great month of gaming, we've managed to play a lot of games and still go in our pool almost every day. This is probably the last summer I have with my son home all day since next year he'll probably be working. My wife and girls went away for an extended weekend so my son and I took advantage and played a bunch of Uwe's big games over that time span. I finally got another copy of Le Havre after foolishly trading it away a few years ago. Played a lot of new games to mixed reviews; there were some good ones, but plenty of mediocre to bad games as well. I'm really going to make an effort to play games I know and be more selective of the new games I try.
115 total plays of unique games in July 2017 (up 69 plays from July 2016, of course my wife was starting a business last year. This is also the highest total of games I've played in a month).
16 new to me games played 34 times (30% of my total plays) - in bold

New games/expansions in my collection (12): Castles of Caladale, Caverna: Cave vs Cave, Cobras, Crazy Race, Kerala, LYGNK, Spires, Stone Age: The Expansion and Tempel des Shrekens. I also reacquired Fields of Arle, Le Havre and Stone Age.
Games/expansions that left my collection (19): Dice Town, Fleet, Fleet: Arctic Bounty, Hawaii, Kribbeln, Kanagawa, La Isla, Lanterns, Lanterns: The Emperor's Gifts, Lost Cities, Mamma Mia, Paperback, Pinball Showdown, Snowdonia, Spinderella, Spires, TTR Map Collection: Volume 5 – United Kingdom & Pennsylvania, X Nimmt!, and Zooloretto: Goodie-Box.
Current +/- ratio for 2017: (+1) - I'm keeping track of the ratio of new games I get compared to the games that leave my collection. My end of the year goal is to keep the overall increase of new games in our collection to under 10. A huge purge in July helped dropped the ratio, but I also bought a bunch of games I had played in the last few months.
January: +3, 7 new games total.
February: +11, 19 new games total.
March: -9, 5 new games total.
April: -3, 8 new games total.
May: +7, 10 new games total.
June: -1, 7 new games total.
July: -7, 12 new games total, 3 were games we used to own and 1 was a Kickstarter.
As always thanks for reading and please feel free to ask any questions.

July was a very mild gaming month for me, this occurs during the summer as my game group doesn't gather as often. My 100x1 challenge is done (played 118 different games already) except for by secondary challenge of playing 50 new promos/modules/expansion/games that I own. I'm at 44/50. I did manage to play 3 times at work, attended or held 4 gamenights, and played once with my wife.
Why Loopin' Chewie? My wife had her friend and daughter over and we played kids games.

Hi! I'm Macaos. A cute, kind, sporty and fun Bearded Collie. I enjoy lying under the table when Macao is on the table.
Very happy with the games played this month! Two of my friends visited with their family on separate weeks and I got to play games both with my friends and with their kids. Then I visited another friend for a long gaming weekend. And finally I got to play Yokohama! Instant love.

Up Nort' Der
We must move forward, not backward, upward, not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!
24 plays for the month, which is a little below an average of 1 per day, but still decent.
On the plus side, THREE(!) plays of an old favorite Mage Knight Dungeons, and two of those were with my daughters.
Vast took the most-played slot again of course, and it's always nice to get Everything vs. Everything back on the table. Nothing new-to-me this time around.
Vast: The Crystal Caverns
Mage Knight Dungeons
Everything vs. Everything
Richard Scarry's Busytown: Busy, Busy Airport Game
Thinking about my next move.
So, if my only options are these, then I shall...
A big increase in plays from last month (from 46 to 95) and almost the same amount than the games played in July '16 - from 96 plays one year ago, to 95 now. Very nice.
After a hiatus of some months, LotR Adventure returned with a bang, leading the month. But the big story this month is Legend of Zagor - an old game based in the Fighting Fantasy gamebook. I bought this one mainly for collection purposes, thinking the game would suck hard. And it isn't great, but is good enough for occasional play, and even more surprising, my friends like it also! I know I would at least to some degree, since I'm a fan of the setting. Thus, three games were played, and more can come. Who would thought?
Lord of the Rings: The Adventure Deck Game x20
Black Stories Funny Death Edition x14
The Grizzled x3
Khet 2.0 x3 -- new to me
Legend of Zagor x3 -- new to me
Notables with 2 or 1 play:
FaceEater x2 - one of the worst games I ever played
Perdition's Mouth: Abyssal Rift x2 - one play left in the campaign and we can't see the end of it soon enough
Eclipse x1 -- out of the dust
Homesteaders x1 -- out of a 4 years dust
Middle-Earth Quest x1
Tzolk'in: The Mayan Calendar x1 -- out of a 2 years dust
And that was it!
Wow, July was the best month gaming-wise in the last couple of years. We managed to clocked 158 plays in 39 different games. With my sons‘ favorite games Skip-Bo and Whoowasit far in front.
We also managed to play a couple of really interesting new (or very old games). Starting with Limes which I found in one of the solo player threads here on BGG. I like tile-laying / worker placement games and so Limes naturally is fun for me, but still I have to get the right strategy how to generate scores 50+ like other solo players do.
Next „new“ game is Black Vienna which I found in my parents' attic, sleeping there since 25 years or so. We were quite interested it’s deductive theme and tried it 4 times with different people and failed heavily each time due to wrong information given by one or more players. But at least in our fifth game I could manage to get all of the three Black Vienna members. I don’t think we will play it much in the future but I liked the retro experience.
Then I got Masmorra in a good trade for some Kickstarter exclusives from Black Plague. I played it with my fiance and my son and we liked exploring the dungeon and fighting against those dicey monsters. I really like the idea of using a couple of dice instead of 50 different miniatures to simulate the enemies. A big pro for a much faster game setup and game organisation overall.
In the end of July we met with an old friend from my role-playing days when I was a teenager. We used the time to play two more Exit games and we also started T.I.M.E. Stories. The Exit games were quite different. While we had a hard time solving some riddles in the tomb (it took us nearly 90 minutes to solve the whole game), the lab was very easy (33 minutes). I like the experience and we managed to keep both games unharmed by copying the manual.
T.I.M.E.-Stories was good, too but I found some rules to be unintuitive, so we had to look up a lot of rules, especially for fights and time consumption.
All in all it was a fun month which I don’t expect to happen again very soon.

Schnappt Hubi! x10

A fairly typical gaming month for me, slightly more than recent months, which have been lighter of gaming - mostly because this month it's been school holidays, so I've been playing lots of games with my kids. Two games have been the real hits of the month - Flash Point with my children, and Terraforming Mars is still going strong with adults.
All games played FtF. Those in bold games I played primarily with adults, those without games I played with my children. New to me games marked with a star. Only games included that I played 2 or more times or the list gets too long.
