So, it seems that in my gaming group, Ive achieved a reputation for not liking games. It seems Im a hater. So, I thought you, the people, would like to know which games I actually enjoy playing. I am going to say only positive things in this geeklist. Youll see!

Here are my favorite games of all time. Note that Im only adding games Ive played at least a few times, so other new-to-me games arent included (such as Concordia and 1989).

NUMBER 25

One of my favorite gateway-style games. I think everything you do is very clear, logical, and thematic. I feel like theres a good balance between scoring points and eyeing the turn order to make efficient purchases - get too far ahead or too far behind and it becomes quite hard to win. I havent played with all of the expansions yet, but the first 3 are essential.

Im excited this is coming back into print with updated rules, though I like it as it is (especially with 3 or 4). Theres not a lot of take that, but there is a substantial amount of interaction as everyone vies for the different governor cards. There is also a lot of great timing things as you can only do one action on your turn. And as an added bonus, it plays really quick.

My favorite card game variant is Tichu. Ive played countless games of this online or in person or in the app against the AI. A game that you are never out of and epic comebacks are the norm. Theres a bit of a learning curve over similar games like spades, but well worth it.

I originally got this to essentially play 2p and couldnt ever get into it, but after several 3 and 4 player games, I regret getting rid of it years ago. Takes the timing aspect of Endeavor to another level as everything you do is helping someone else, but when and where to make those plays is the difference between winning and losing. Cant wait to see what the new version looks like.

A recent find by my group and Im swept up in the craze like everyone else. Such a straightforward ruleset, but such a vicious mix of technology building vs. point scoring. The goal of getting in other people's way is so interesting - you can block someone but if they do something else, then youve just slowed yourself down. And the tech is vitally important, but its a lot of effort to advance and no points!

One of the newer entries on this list. I really like the decision of maximizing your points while trying toi decide how fast or slow to move along the trail. Move too quickly and you wont cycle your cards enough to get good hands, but move too slowly and you fall behind the pacing of the game. I need a few more plays to determine what I think of the balance of the employees, but for now, I am very satisfied with the experience.

Theres lots of hidden role games, but I think this one does it the best (of what Ive played). The intro is quick, and it's rare that the tension doesnt last until the 5th make or break round. I like ONUW, but the intro makes playing more than a couple games feel like youre just listening to the intro. This feels so quick and youre into playing. It does take a game or two for most people to catch on to some of the nuances, but its worth it.

One of my favorites from the TLD league that just finished. A great 4 player push and pull that has incredible mechanisms where you always want to do more than you can and you never have enough turns. I was worried that there would be too much 'take that', but Ive found that there are always ways to mitigate that. Investing too heavily in any one company is putting a target on your back; so only do it if youre willing to take the risk of getting beaten on!

Ginkgopolis has an admittedly weak theme and is rather fiddly, but man is this a fun 2p experience. I love the way you build you tableau by building the city higher and higher. The other TLD league game on my list. Im not convinced that there isnt an optimal opening or a first player advantage, but that doesnt diminish my enjoyment of playing the game. Like Mombasa, there are always so many more things that you want to get done that what you can, and I love the balance of engine building vs. the area control. I also like that the different actions have different values to each player due to the cost association with the color of the worker.

I like how you can feel out of it in the middle game and still come out ahead if you get the right draws at the right time. While some people find this game too chaotic, I think there are definitely ways to manage the chaos. Even if you lose, you can just rack it back up and go best of 3.

This intense 2-3 hour roller coaster is my second favorite game of all time. I dont care much for wargames, but the card play in this is so incredible. I love that so often you are forced to make such excruciating decisions about cards that you know will hurt you and trying to find the best way to weasel out of it. Ive played 1989 and like the wide-openness of it, but the cage-fight style of Twilight Struggle just cant be matched. My only complaint is that it has such a steep learning curve that I dont have that many options for playing this live.
