Every now and then I see some sort of zeitgeist in the BGG community that should be mocked; when that happens (and it strikes me) I attempt to write a parody press release and see how many people believe it.

Someone asked me to make a geeklist of them, so here we go. I hope it's enjoyable. I'll add in some commentary on what I was thinking when I made the press release, as well as a picture of a game that maybe inspired it.

This was born out of some (NEERRDD) arguments about whether TI3 or Eclipse was more of a 4x game. "Well, TI3 is only like 3.5x because you don't actually explore" and "If that's the case, then Eclipse is only 3x because the extermination is hard" and on and on and it was dumb. Is the game fun? That's what matters. Not the number of X's.

Although, to be fair, I have gotten awfully snarky about other games claiming to be a 4x by simply redefining entirely what 4x means *cough scythe cough*. Oh my god the call is coming from inside the house...

This was two ideas in my head: A) that someone other than the original owner could release an anniversary edition and B) it'd be funny if the anniversary didn't actually connect with any actual meaningful date.

Years later, Cheapass released the 19.5th anniversary of Kill Dr Lucky, which is playing with the similar idea.

I don't remember which Dominion expansion it was, but at some point there was supposed to be an end to the expansions, so people had a pretty nifty storage solution. But then more expansions were made. The gnashing of teeth over the solution not working anymore was a bit crazy because you totally didn't have to buy the extra cards! If you have 7 dominion expansions, I promise you you have enough dominion cards to never play the same game twice.

I don't remember what prompted this, but only a few months later someone on Reddit proposed it as a serious idea. I had a laugh:

Some people are so desperate to save their legacy games. I can understand... but maybe if you can't handle the main idea of a legacy game, don't play legacy games?

It's like a vegetarian demanding a veggie burger. Be a vegetarian if you want, but then leave burgers to us meat-eaters.

Someone in my game group wanted to play Strasbourg. It's a Euro named after a city and I could literally tell you nothing else. I wondered if naming a game after a fictional city that no one had heard of would work, but unfortunately a native french speaker caught my joke and spelled it out in the first post.
