We recently finished moving to a new house-- a long, laborious move involving too many people, too many waypoints, and too many months. At this point, we are fairly far along with the unpacking, but there is something important missing-- a box of games.

I am sharing this with you because it is driving me crazy that I cannot find this box.

I am sharing this with you because figuring out what is missing and cataloguing it may prove helpful, or at least therapeutic.

I am sharing this with you so that someone who maybe cares can mourn with me now and celebrate with me when I hopefully find it.

EDIT:

The box has been found!

Evidently someone thought a box labelled "Games" should go with the kids' toys... Ha! And evidently my kids thought it was the perfect size for a table, so they covered it with a blanket as a tablecloth.

When we opened it up, it was like Christmas; everyone was excited to play. The look on my two-year-old's face was priceless. He held up Sneaky Snacky Squirrel with an expectant look in his eyes, as if to say, "This one's for me, right?" I nodded, and he played with the pieces for over half an hour.

This one might hurt the most, since I had saved up my personal money to preorder Santorini. I played it only once with my husband before he left to work in our new state, and it had a few too many pieces to pull out with the kids while we were busy packing up.

I am looking forward to playing Santorini with my sister, who now lives close by. She has a love for abstract strategy games similar to my own, and she is a challenging opponent. She's going to love it, but I have to find that box first.

I have a container full of extremely well-sorted Harry Potter cards awaiting me in the missing box. I know my 7-year-old is going to be overjoyed when we find it, because it is one of our favorite games to play together (she shares my love for 2-player card games). Before the move began, we had just started building some 40-card starter-sized decks to try out against one another. So much fun.

This is also a favorite game to play with my daughter, so tense and tactical. I love the art and all the card powers. It's like Lost Cities if Lost Cities had crazy Ancient Egyptian magic! I haven't gotten to fully explore the deckbuilding element where you play again with an altered deck because...

...I actually bought this one to play with my sister. Now that we live close together for the first time in 7 years, it's killing me that I can't introduce her to Scarab Lords.

The doomed box was supposed to be taken to our new home in a way that made it more available when we began to pack, not less. And that is why I put some key children's games in there, a move that I now regret.

Animal Upon Animal is fun for all ages, but it is particularly sanity-saving to play with the youngest in our family, particularly my 4-year-old, to whom it was given, and my nearly 2-year-old, who wants to play games SO much, but who treats every game like a dexterity game anyway.

Sneaky Snacky Squirrel is certainly not my favorite game, but I really wish I could play (with) it with my 2-year-old. Or set him up to play with it while the rest of us play Sushi Go.

It has been too long since we played this one. Gemblo is so fun with the kids, and my parents, who now live nearby, will actually play it too. (Which is good, because my mom once complained that Forbidden Island was too complicated.) Let's hope it's not gone forever because we could really use that 6-player count as our family gets older.

EDIT: Oops, this one was not actually missing. I just...maybe...kind of...have more games than I can keep track of.

This one is unpunched and unplayed. I bought it during our moving saga because it was on clearance at Miniature Market, and it has been on my wish list forever. Knizia games are just plain fun, but I chose this one specifically to play with my daughter for math practice.

I found this one at Salvation Army. It probably isn't a game I ever would have purchased at retail price, but I actually quite enjoy playing it with my kids. When we find that box, this is definitely getting a play.

I forgot to include this in my original list, though I did indeed miss it; my kids have asked about this several times.

Outfoxed is a splendid game to play with kids, and it was heartily missed. This copy actually belongs to my 7-year-old, who saved her money for months and bought it after seeing me watch a Dice Tower review. She even likes to play it solo.

EDIT:

I definitely should have remembered this one, but I didn't. This game is so terribly broken, but it is a favorite to play with my 6-year-old, who loves defeating enemies with the inexplicable power of little plastic gems. The artwork is quite redeeming, though, and I do love playing it with him.

EDIT:

Another forgettable member of our board game collection, I had to google this real quick just to get the name right. I think I mostly remember this as "the game that sounds so good until you start to play it and the kids all go for the jugular". I don't think we've ever finished without a fight.

Oh, good. The mancala board we use to play Oware. I'm glad this ended up somewhere sensible, since my mother-in-law had temporarily used it to display a kid's Easter eggs when she was staging our house for sale? Don't ask.
