Gaming with other people can be tough at times if you don't necessarily like the same games. This list is of the top 10 games that my wife and I both really like. To build this list I went through all of the games we've played and scored them from 0-3 for each person based on how they liked it, then I summed the two numbers

Hive is one of the first games we played together. We both have a lot of fond memories of it. It's been on of our go-to travel games and has come with us across the world. The tactile feel of the game adds a lot to the enjoyment of it. It is interesting and thinky without being overbearing and perfect over an afternoon snack on the porch

While we haven't been able to play this game a lot, it is one that we both really like. BSG was one of the first shows we watched together and we got hooked on it until it jumped the shark. I wasn't able to finish it, but the mini-series is still one of my favorite bits of sci-fi to date. This game is certainly too long and other games may get to the core of what this game does in a quicker timeframe (and no, Dead of Winter is not one of those). The theme is unmatched though and I love the feel of working together (mostly) to try and survive on our spaceship

YINSH is an amazing abstract game. The rules are dead simple but the game is fun and complex. Looking several turns ahead is pretty difficult and the board state can change quite quickly if you aren't careful. Lots of little chewy bits of strategy in here while still being simple and breezy to play. One of my personal top 10 as well

I'm certainly more of a Tichu proponent than Lauren is which is impressive considering we've never played this in paper. We've played Haggis and Big Two quite a bit more but Tichu's partner play is what makes it so good. The scoring is a bit complex for family/friends gaming but just playing hands for fun has worked really well

Bohnanza is in many ways my gateway game of choice. A lot of games tend to be either too gamey causing the entire table to stare at their own situation (looking at you Catan) or too social and consequently unappealing to those looking for more to do. Bohnanza treads a fine line of incorporating both which is pretty cool. There's a surprising number of strategies in this little box and the dynamic of the table sets the tempo of the game. Love it

Dominion is and will pretty much always be the quintessential deck builder for us. There are other games that are arguably better but Dominion is clean and direct and delivers pretty consistently. Lauren feels more strongly about it than I do but I still think it's a fine, well-tuned game. We love how fast it is and there are expansions for days. I'm a hair from just buying everything out for it at this point

It's difficult to find games that are approachable but still have quite a bit going on. Suburbia is one of those rare gems though. The core gameplay is simple but there are lots of possible interactions. The theme is really fun too - who doesn't want to build a little city. My only knock against it is that it tends to be more of a heads-down game unless you have steep competition for the goals. Great fun game that rides the line of meaty and simple

Farming gets a bad rep. Honestly, I think it's one of our favorite themes - raising a family, growing veggies, building a house, breeding animals, ... feeding your people . Agricola is one of our "feel good" games that still presents a nice puzzle in figuring out how to achieve what you want to do. It leans a bit on the solitaire side but it's still rewarding and fun

Anomia is just stupid fun, done smart. Our favorite party games get people talking and sharing what we know while still leading to funny moments. Anomia is great for this because it's essentially a trivia-style game but it mixes in a speed/recognition element that can cause people to blurt out the strangest things. Sometimes it can devolve if no one has an answer for a category but we just house-rule it and move on to the next card

And here we have our #1. While every other game on this list has been one that one person loves and the other just likes, we both love Eat Poop You Cat. For starters, you can play it anywhere with just paper and pencil (assuming you remember how to fold it). It's also dead simple: write a phrase, pass, draw the phrase, pass. But most importantly it's simply hilarious. People will shock you with how good (and terrible) their drawings are and shock you even more with how good (and terrible) their guesses are. It's a game that's filled with all sorts of strong feelings from the dread of thinking how on earth you're going to draw something to cheering when the person following you *actually understands your chicken scratch*. Perfect game
